Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms, and convenient location. Many guests appreciate the free car service, happy hour, and restaurant delivery options. However, some guests have complained about uncomfortable beds and pillows, noise from nearby TVs or early morning garbage pickup, and issues with the key card or A/C not working properly.

A lovely, inviting space - inside and out - and an especially warm, friendly and gracious staff. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay there again.
- 3/5
The room was adequate but nothing special. There was some long dark hair on the bathroom floor when we arrived. I like the fact that the windows open so fresh air can be enjoyed in the room. For the price, I feel like there should have been some additional more upscale amenities, such as Nespresso or similar coffee in the room or at the very least in the lobby. I also feel a refillable water bottle (i.e. PATH) would have been nice. The available bicycles are great, but since we visited to specifically attend an even we didn't have time to use them. The staff was very friendly, professional, and helpful.
- 5/5
Great stay - the staff was genuine and welcoming, coffee and lemon water always available made for some wonderful sit-on-the-beautiful-patio-and-relax moments, parking was easy and convenient. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!
- 3/5
The room was not in working order. While a balcony seems nice, the hotel is on the corner of two busy streets and near a hospital, so there is too much street noise to enjoy sitting outside.

The hotel is beautiful, the coffee is excellent, and the shared spaces are so lovely to enjoy. We did have a non-working bathtub that never got fixed, and we asked for towels that didnt come. But we generally had a great stay!

Clean and close for my stop in morning Bed covers were a little tight for me

We visited Santa Monica for a medical reason. The staff was very helpful and the hotel driver drove us to our nearby hospital appointment. We will stay at this hotel again when we have our follow up visit. The hotel was quiet and in a residential neighborhood.

Bikes are not
- 5/5
Only complaints, my room 209 has a leaky shower… so wet slippery floor every shower. Also if they could replenish the half and half more it had run out 2 of my 4 mornings. Lovely staff , secure parking and charging for electric vehicles. Lovely patio and side yard with an outdoor fireplace. You do need to request housekeeping so keep that in mind.

Our family members enjoyed a really nice weekend at the Ambrose Hotel. The location of the hotel was great and allowed us easy access to all amenities and ocean. There was even a farmer's market on Saturday that we enjoyed. The common areas were awesome and inviting which made staying with extended family more fun. And, the staff was helpful, friendly, and very professional. nothing really. All was GOOD.

Rough towels. Very thin blanket. Large hard pillows. Disappointing breakfast. Hot water for tea often unavailable. Coffee was available. Staff was responsive and helpful.

That it had a balcony & the wine on the house happy hour plus Tartine bakery right across the street. The bathroom lights were WAY too bright & really bugged me especially using the bathroom in the middle of the night where it would practically blind me in there. You need two separate lights or a dimmer! Parking was way too much money daily - it was ridiculous. We stayed 5 nights. It would be really good to have a break in price after 3 nights.

Staff were helpful when they were available, but the issue is that they were not always available, particularly at night.

Management wasn’t
- 5/5
Room was clean and comfortable. No drama. Bed was good, space felt taken care of. Exactly what you want after a long day. Staff was very polite and accommodating from the food service to the front desk. I had forgotten clothes in the closet and called the hotel but they had already folded and had them ready for me as soon as I called. The Ambrose gets the details right, and that’s what makes the difference.
- 5/5
The hotel smells the best I’ve ever smelled at a hotel! Loved everything about this small boutique hotel. Also, you are directly across the street from an amazing breakfast spot called Tartaine!!
- 4/5
It was very calm, inviting and everyone was extremely kind upon arrival
- 5/5
This was our third visit to Ambrose hotel, and we must say, we appreciate all of the upgrades that were made since our last stay. We were warmly welcomed -- as usual -- and we had a great overall experience. Thanks, once more, to all of you, and we hope to see you again soon!
- 5/5
Clean, cozy, great amenities, loved our stay . Will return later dates
- 5/5
Great location. Spacious rooms.
- 4/5
While I’ve always enjoyed staying at The Ambrose, I find that the property has aged and could use some renovations. I feel like the front desk staff could be friendlier and more attentive upon check in and in general.
- 3/5
The hotel is very quiet . The only complaint is about the hazardous shower. The spray head is very high. . There are no grab bars and no non slip pad in the tub. It’s slippery for any age person. At least place a rubber mat. At best install a hand held shower head.
- 5/5
The Ambrose is a beautiful hotel. I loved my stay and I highly recommend. It is quiet and close to places to go in Santa Monica but a relaxing reprieve from all the hustle and bustle.
- 3/5
The location is amazing.
- 5/5
Great hotel, well up kept in a wonderful Santa Monica location. Very friendly staff. Will stay again!
- 4/5
Tartine Bakery across the street...many eateries are walking distance. Third Street Promenade is nearby via public transportation.

In town. The only thing I don’t like is their parking garage.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Everything great
- 5/5
Muy buena atención.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, comfortable beds, walkable location, and very clean which is the criteria I care about. They offer wonderful services like free bike rentals or a Tesla transportation system within a certain radius ( didn’t utilize since we had our car). I would definitely stay here again when I’m in the LA area.
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
Clean room, and great staff. I would recommend this hotel, and would stay there again.
- 4/5
Clean and quaint and quiet hotel. The staff are wonderful and helpful. They tended to our needs. Also it’s a nice perk having tea and coffee available all day. We definitely enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Great location and well maintained property
- 5/5
It’s perfect comfortable location and convenient since I am doing chemotherapy at St John’s
- 4/5
Parking was easy. spaces were tight though. Liked the happy hour
- 5/5
Everything about this experience and stay was immaculate - clean room, friendly staff, anticipatory care - and I am so sad I forgot her name but she was a concierge and gave me a wake up call because I had a 530 AM taxi so she wanted to ensure I was all set for my trip and when the driver picked me up she told him to take good care of me. I would stay here again.
- 3/5
No attendance or service in the breakfast area
- 5/5
Room was great. Hotel is in a perfect location!
- 5/5
Perfect
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room, great location. Free coffee/tea available with oat milk as an option. Water in the lobby as well as bottle fill fountains on our floor. Refrigerator in the room. They will accept food deliveries at the concierge. These are the little things that made our stay easier than other places we have stayed at in the past.

Great stay
- 5/5
Great hotel in the heart of Santa Monica!
- 2/5
The staff were not friendly. The keys only worked once and then we had to get new ones. Parking was expensive. The bed was just ok. The room was just ok. The worst two parts were the extra fees of $89 charged when we checked out for absolutely nothing and the rainhead shower head that didn't get us clean. No pressure or wand. Poor design! It came out to over $550 for one overnight stay plus the parking fee. We used no amenities. We were very disappointed. When I asked about the last minute fees, the desk clerk was rude.
- 4/5
Overall great stay
- 4/5
The Ambrose was okay but not worth the price.
- 5/5
Always love my stay at the Ambrose.
- 5/5
Free beer 5-7pm was a bonus! (When there was someone on the bar to serve)
- 5/5
Thoroughly recommend this hotel. Rooms spacious and clean, staff
- 5/5
Front desk staff friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Clean and friendly hotel
- 1/5
A lot of issues with the room. Toilet didn't work. Bath faucet didn't work. Shower drain stopped up. I complained and they did fix the issues the next morning, but very inconvenient on the day I arrived. Room service menu limited and stopped at 7 pm every night. No room service Monday. No bar to speak of. Happy Hour was worse than a bad airport lounge. One of the worst hotel experiences in my decades of travel. Definitely NOT worth the money. My first time staying there, but will never go back...
- 5/5
The hotel staff was friendly and cordial, the hotel was clean and cozy.
- 5/5
Nice staff, nice gym, large rooms
- 5/5
Great hotel! Excellent location and very clean and spacious rooms.
- 5/5
We had a really lovely stay at this hotel. The place was really clean and amenities were updated. The staff was so kind and accommodating. Will definitely be returning and recommending to family and friends.
- 5/5
Loved the car service and the bakery across the street
- 4/5
The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, you can order a room service and have breakfast near lobby but it’s very limited. Kind of in the middle of nowhere.
- 5/5
Wonderful experience at check in. Great service throughout. Property is in need of a little bit of a refresh in some ways as things look a tiny bit dinged up or fatigued. But overall a lovely stay.
- 3/5
Our room was facing the back alley and every morning at 6 AM we were woken up by very load banging noise of garbage collection trucks that banged the trash cans with such force that everything felt like falling apart. Heat/AC system has been very noisy too interrupting our sleep every time it tuned on or off. The white noise devices were totally useless in this environment. Getting a quiet room has been our only request prior to checking in.
- 5/5
We loved our stay at The Ambrose! The service was impeccable, great perks (coffee, wine, bikes, Tesla…), and our room was great. We definitely hope to be back!
- 5/5
Great hotel in Santa Monica. Pricey but worth it. Many aspects of a lux hotel in an average location. Room was clean and the staff really friendly.
- 5/5
Did not enjoy the perfume scent in the lobby area but otherwise terrific!
- 5/5
Staff was absolutely delightful! Beautiful clean rooms. A must stay property.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff and incredibly accommodating! Excellent restaurant suggestions and many places to sit comfortably and chat while outside the room. Will absolutely be back!
- 4/5
I always enjoy staying at the Ambrose. It is close to all, property is clean and beds are comfortable.
- 5/5
Lots of reviews for other properties in the Santa Monica area mentioned un housed people being an issue so I was nervous, but that wasn’t an issue at all. The property was super quiet and peaceful. It’s right across the street from an amazing bakery too. I really enjoyed my stay here.
- 5/5
The hotel is very nice but there is a $39 fee to park each night and we are handicapped so we parked on the street using our placard.
- 2/5
When we checked in there was a squashed cockroach on the floor. When I went to get coffee the next morning the milk was sour and curdled. The electronics that were supposedly in the room either were not present or didn't work. Impossible to get the TV casting to work, and the white noise machine referred to on a card in the room wasn't even there. When we called to ask for one, the person at the front desk told US to come down and fetch it and then wasn't there when we actually came down. We had to wait for 15 mins with three other people who also needed service. And all this for $400+ a night. What a ripoff.
- 5/5
Great location
- 3/5
Sorta basic for what they charge. Bed not comfy but it was clean and trendy feeling.
- 5/5
The room was spacious and comfortable.
- 5/5
My stay at the Ambrose.
- 5/5
Love this hotel! We will be back!
- 5/5
great place to stay will be back ! staff was very accommodating and room was spacious and clean
- 5/5
A great hotel perfectly located for exploring Santa Monica.
- 5/5
Very serene, zen-like and immaculately kept. Will stay again!!!
- 5/5
Perfect stay at the Ambrose - conveniently located in a residential area of SM, which means you get to avoid tourists, traffic and parking pains while getting the best of SM at your fingertips. We loved the 3-mile Tesla service and the lovely sitting areas in the lobby. Every morning we walked across the street for croissants and coffee at Tartine. Couldn’t recommend Ambrose more!
- 3/5
Price was very high.
- 5/5
Great staff. Pleasant outdoor/indoor seating area. Specious room and bath.
- 5/5
I would have liked a more extensive menu
- 5/5
Lovely and quiet.
- 3/5
It was very unclear when food was available. Card in room said 7 am to 7 pm but the kitchen was closed at 6. No explanation.
- 5/5
Easy parking
- 5/5
Everything was wonderful. After our flight to lax was delayed 16 hours we couldn’t arrive in time for our first night. The hotel very kindly said they wouldn’t charge us for the unused night. The staff was was very helpful, the room was comfortable and clean, the common areas were attractive and inviting, there was 24-hour coffee, and I could go on. For half the price we used to pay in Beverly Hills, we got a convenient location near Brentwood and even a free car to take us to locations within 3 miles. This is our new LA hotel.
- 5/5
Great stay will come again
- 5/5
Brandon was extremely welcoming and always made sure that we had a great stay!
- 3/5
Beds and pillows horribly uncomfortable. Lumpy pillows and bed.
- 5/5
This is a lovely small hotel near UCLA Medical Center in St. John’s Hospital. It is not in the center of the dining or shopping scene for Santa Monica, but is an easy Uber ride away if that’s where you were going. They do have nice restaurant delivery options and there’s a beautiful bakery across the street for breakfast and a light lunch. if you are visiting Santa Monica because of a friend or relative at the medical center, there is a medical center rate at the hotel as well. While I couldn’t participate in the evening Wine hours because of my schedule it’s a wonderful amenity that I saw many people taking advantage of . I’d like to thank Brandon and Nick for being so kind during my long visit.
- 5/5
Draft beer👍
- 5/5
Small intimate luxury property offering a tranquil oasis near to the centre. Free car ride to local areas a helpful bonus along with the free wine every evening. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Nothing negative would stay again if in the area
- 5/5
Absolutely perfect! Friendly staff. Great location, comfortable bed, complementary coffee, wine an beer. Excellent stay.
- 5/5
Great service. Lovely atmosphere. Only down side was that we could hear a nearby TV both nights ( we were in room 204 )
- 4/5
Great place to stay. Good location for us. Lovely terrace. Free happy hour. Parking convenient and secure. Only issue we had was our room was located over an alley where garbage pickup and deliveries were early morning and rather loud
- 5/5
Location was convenient for accessing many areas around town. The car service was a nice touch. The parking was ample, the room was well stocked with many amenities and very clean.

Free parking right underneath the hotel. Quick easy check in, friendly staff. Complimentary beer and wine happy hour from 5-7 and the bartender was awesome. Very happy with the bathroom lighting and makeup mirror. After a long night out we melted into an incredible comfortably bed. We appreciated their 12pm check out even though we had to leave earlier.
- 5/5
Would recommend to anyone
- 5/5
They offer free coffee, tea and water all day, as well as wine and beer for a few hours in the evening. They also offer a free 3 mile shuttle until 8pm so you can enjoy dinner in downtown Santa Monica without having to worry about finding parking. The bakery in front of the hotel was delicious. My husband and I have already talked about staying at this hotel again if we return to Santa Monica during our stay. Highly recommended.
- 4/5
Key card didn’t work after the first night.
- 4/5
Lovely boutique hotel. Nice beds and baths. Love all the little areas to hang out around the lobby and outside. Like different “rooms”. Free tea and coffee all day is fantastic!
- 2/5
The hotel is nice and in good condition. The A/C didn't work properly in our room so we had a terrible night. Also the pillows are huge
- 5/5
Simply amazing. A bit priceybyt worth it
- 5/5
El hotel esta muy acogedor, muy limpio y con un servicio de primera
- 5/5
What a classy and high quality hotel. Quiet room. Excellent and polite service. Nice touches throughout. Would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
They need food and bar service
- 5/5
This place is awesome. Free car service within three miles, which we used twice. Walkable to the beach. Amazing staff, great service and super clean. They also have free happy hour every night, which we took advantage of a few times. The parking is easy. I would highly recommend The Ambrose!
- 5/5
Great botique hotel
- 5/5
Excellent in every way EXCEPT: using the TV was impossible. We spent an hour trying to figure out how to access the channel we wanted to watch. Gave up, finally! Please - can't things be less complex when it comes to simply wanting to watch TV???
- 2/5
No water for the whole stay
- 5/5
Great place. Very accommodating. Love the neighborhood. Super staff.
- 4/5
Water pressure was not good needs bath tub
- 5/5
This is my 2nd time at the property and for good reason - it's safe, clean, the staff is incredibly professional and accommodating. I will be a returning guest for sure!
- 5/5
Perfect hotel with location and comfort. Possibly over priced but Santa Monica is overpriced generally.
- 3/5
I expected a lot more from this hotel. By the time it was all done, I spent about $500 with initial cost and multiple hidden fees. With that price point, we could have stayed at a hotel with many more amenities and a much nicer room.
- 4/5
Tucked away in a neighborhood, can walk places but on busy streets. Excellent staff and service.
- 5/5
I just discovered this little gem of a hotel tucked away on a quiet street in Santa Monica. If you like small, upscale boutique hotels that are priced between the high-end and the mid-range hotels, this is perfect for you. I chose this hotel because of all the rave reviews on Expedia and now I am adding my own rave review to the pile.
- 5/5
Great value considering other options in Santa Monica.
- 1/5
Updated, nice staff, great location !
- 5/5
Close to medical facilities
- 5/5
Excellent place to stay. The front desk people were amazing.
- 5/5
Great stay, great property, great staff.
- 5/5
I can walk to ocean in 30 minutes. The dining options nearby were excellent.
- 5/5
Free coffee ( the good kind) and tea Complementary happy hour 5-7 pm Beautiful ambience, small and cozy hotel
- 5/5
We enjoyed the Ambrose Hotel from beginning to end. The room was lovely and very clean. The staff was excellent. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast, coffee and tea in the beautiful space provided. We look forward to staying at the Ambrose Hotel on our next visit to Los Angeles.
- 5/5
My husband left part of his cpap machine, it was found and will be mailed to us - thank you Leo.
- 4/5
we liked the location, and the room though the bathroom needs a bit of touch
- 1/5
Clean, attractive exterior. Drive by slowly, don’t stay there! Way overpriced for what you get in service, amenities. Throughout our stay, we were continually disappointed: oatmeal a tepid bowl of milk with about a 1/2 cup of oatmeal on bottom, poor communication with front desk re: housekeeping (spoke with them about frequency of housekeeping desired, didn’t show up), given wrong key several times, paid extra for studio, thinking we would have a nice table and chairs for dining(as pictured online), not the case. Clearly understaffed. Low standard for customer service. Very disappointing, horrific waste of money! Stay away!
- 4/5
Nice
- 5/5
Very nice. No issues.
- 5/5
Loved the outside areas! Great for work AND relaxing!
- 5/5
The hotel is very nice and it offers a variety of amenities.
- 5/5
Incredibly beautiful property, great location, safe, Tartine is right across the hotel!
- 3/5
Complimentary chocolate truffles were delicious. Tub was super slippery and there should have been a non-slip mat provided. Water pressure was mediocre. Hotel is quiet, sound proofing was good. Plenty of room to unpack clothes, and a mini fridge in the room. Walking distance to restaurants, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's. If I hadn't had to pay a small fortune, this review might have been better. But the poor staffing was truly an issue - I know it's hard everywhere and I hope they can hire more staff soon
- 5/5
My favorite place to stay in Santa Monica/LA area!
- 4/5
Nice hotel, clean and a good spot for Santa Monica. Found it a bit overpriced - I think the price reflects a lot of the perks (happy hour, bike rentals) but if you're not using those, it wasn't really worth it. Also, wish there was coffee in the room.
- 5/5
The staff was accommodating and helpful during our stay. We walked the area and found it had restaurants and a lovely bakery/ restaurant across the street that met our needs.
- 5/5
Quiet and Chic!
- 5/5
We recently had a brief visit to LA and our stay was very pleasant. The staff was friendly and the property was cozy. It was a convenient location to all the sites we were visiting. Bonus: the hotel is near two delicious bakeries (Tartine and Huckleberry).
- 5/5
It fit our needs, was clean, nice, convenient location, friendly staff
- 5/5
clean, and nice staff
