Reviews
The hotel is generally praised for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and convenient location, particularly in relation to downtown Springfield and the Lincoln historical sites. However, the breakfast is frequently criticized for its lack of variety and quality. Some guests also express concerns about the condition of the hotel, suggesting it could use some upgrading.
- Convenient location
- Friendly staff
- Limited breakfast variety and quality
- Hotel could use some upgrading

Good for a one night stay with kids. The hotel had an odd smell (like a senior citizens building?). I couldn’t exactly place it, but other than that-one night -nothing went terrible wrong with our stay.
- 4/5
Our room was clean as were the rest of the hotel, the continental breakfast was adequate.
- 4/5
The Carpenter Street Hotel was within walking distance of the Lincoln Museum. Parking was free to guests and so was breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable and the price was very reasonable. We would stay there again.
- 5/5
Exceptional
- 3/5
The hotel is older and has a musty smell. The towels were old and worn out.
- 2.5/5
The location is nice. The room had wet carpet and felt like a moist room overall (needs a dehumidifier). The charging port on the lamp didn't work. We couldn't move the blinds up or down. The room had a very bad odor. Breakfast was terrible as well. Outside our window was a fence and yard tools. Not a good room or pleasant experience. Would've switched hotels if we didn't get there so late & were exhausted.
- 1.5/5
Good location Breakfast was a Joe. Stale bagels. Cream cheese bad. The shower in my room did not drain and smelled bad.
- 2/5
Very basic. Smells musty. Needs updating. Good price and close to Lincoln sites

Great location. Nice redo of an older hotel. would recommend

Staff very friendly. Close to locations I needed to get to Lots of air pressure in rooms that slammed doors all the time
- 4/5
close to all museums, walking distance. Older building and room but looks like they are updating, Would stay again if in the area.
- 5/5
Plenty of parking and the hotel is walking distance to the usual landmarks and eateries. The fitness room was surprisingly good and better equipped than bigger more expensive hotels.

Outside of the bathroom fan being quite noisy and the room being slightly musty upon arrival, everything was excellent. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location.
- 4/5
The room looked and smelled clean. The water in the shower was nice and hot with good water pressure. The beds were comfortable; supportive without being firm, yielding to my bones without being soft. The breakfast was good and included waffles, biscuits and gravy, 3 kinds of dry cereal and oatmeal packets, toast and danishes, hard boiled eggs. I don't remember seeing fruit though. There was a coffee machine and the usual tea and hot chocolate packets. Parking was free. There are self laundry machines there, I did not use them. There is also a room with exercise equipment which I also did not use. The towels were small. The sink had a small crack in it. The window blind system let in too much light in the morning so take an eye mask if you are sensitive. I was told by friends in Springfield that it is not located in a great area, however it is within easy walking distance to St. John's hospital and they are used to people who have loved ones in the hospital. We had no trouble there

King size bed needed replacibg, good breakfast and location.
- 3.5/5
Location is inside downtown Springfield, IL--not too far from nearby major attractions. The staff are professional with concise but helpful information. The room is good to have necessary devices and furniture. The fridge and microwave are disconnected to powers. The breakfast is just edible with limited choices. No continence stores or restaurants in nearby walking distances. Pillows are not so comfortable.

Great location, clean hotel, needs some maintenance upgrades such as broken windows and loud bathroom fans. Also needs new pillows and nicer thicker towels.
- 5/5
Great place to stay. Very clean and close to everything

My first room had a toilet that leaked all over the floor so I was switched to another room. Besides the toilet, the 1st room was clean. The 2nd room, not so much.
- 4/5
The bed was a bit lumpy, the bath towels were rather thin and the breakfast was uninspiring. On a positive note, it was affordable and within walking distance of every place we were interested in seeing

- 4/5
Good location, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was fantastic! The guy who checked us in seemed bothered by our presence.
- 5/5
although many bars in the windows in the neighborhood, hotel was safe and well lighted
- 3/5
The room was clean but the lobby area wasn't very inviting.
- 3/5
Breakfast was ok, and yes there was adequate parking. I think that property owners are not doing their job. The towels, the plumbing, scent in the corridors and etc. I know that it’s relatively inexpensive but if you’re putting your name on a property, it should meet a standard. The Carpenter does not even meet an average standard. Would not recommend. I would not recommend it as a job opportunity, you can’t do a good job if your corporation doesn’t care.
- 4.5/5
Breakfast was ok. Not much healthier choices. No cream for coffee.(Only sweetened flavored cream)

- 4/5
Nice, clean, small downtown hotel.
- 4/5
Free parking, recently updated, basic hot breakfast, close to downtown, lots of sketchy people in the neighborhood. Great value for price!
- 4/5
Hotel was in perfect location for downtown sightseeing. Price was good. Breakfast was ok
- 5/5
Simple, clean and quiet. Hard to complain for business stay.
- 2/5
Staff was very friendly! Location was great with free parking. Unfortunately, the room cleanliness was less than satisfactory with hair in the tub drain and garbage in the cans. The breakfast was very slim.
- 4/5
I have stayed here a few times over the years. I like it as a good downtown option. It's not fancy but it's solid in my book. Off-street parking downtown is a plus.
- 4/5
Parking was easy. Walking distance to the Lincoln Museum and Library. Decent breakfast buffet. The property is tired - king bed had dips where people sleep and it smelled a bit funky in the room. But for $100, it was a decent place to sleep on our journey.
- 5/5
.
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 4/5
This is an average hotel, but it was conveniently located and in a safe location. The towels were very small and rough, and the breakfast was just average, but it met our needs.
- 5/5
Nice place. Nice staff. Great location. We are repeat customers.
- 4/5
Came for the weekend. Hotel is a short walk from the Lincoln Museum/Library and other attractions. The room was spacious, and had a proper reading chair, not just a desk chair, which was an excellent addition. The bathroom fan was a bit noisier than I would have liked. Breakfast was OK - I suspect increased food prices have required some hotels to adjust their menus. May want to replace the machine which makes the morning coffee. The coffee maker in my room made better coffee. Overall, a nice stay, attractive price, and good staff.
- 3/5
Did not get much sleep with slamming of doors and the loud A/C unit as it turned on to cool the room every 20 minutes all through the night. Otherwise was a clean place. Not in the best of areas.
- 3/5
The staff was very friendly, and accommodating to requests. The property, although clean is dated. They should consider balancing the dated condition by at least updating the basics like towels and providing Kleenex. There were only 2 towels, and they were so thin from being washed so many times, I joked that they might have been there since the hotel was originally built. Overall it was fine as it was just a stop over for the night and it was very affordable.
- 5/5
Everything up to expectations. No complaints. Would stay again.
- 4/5

The staff were very friendly!! The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable!!! The offer breakfast but I chose not to eat this visit. There was plenty of parking and it was clean and maintained. This was our second visit using this hotel and it's worth it!!!
- 5/5
Nice hotel for the price. Room was comfortable & staff and was nice.
- 5/5
It’s my favorite place to stay in Springfield
- 3/5
I love this hotel! The front desk staff are wonderful - they will do everything to help you!! Easy check-in/check- out. There is, however, an ongoing problem with the housekeeping staff / rooms are not cleaned routinely. Di, if you plan to stay. Ore than one night, don’t count on your room being cleaned.
- 5/5
Everything was very nice clean and well kept
- 5/5
Great hotel for the price point, nothing fancy here but good location , comfortable rooms, good breakfast and great service.
- 5/5
The lady that checked us in was very sweet.
- 5/5
Clean, comfortable room, kind staff.
- 5/5
Nice staff, helpful with dinner suggestions.
- 5/5
Always great place to stay
- 3/5
My impression of this property is that’s it’s ok for a one day stay same for it’s breakfast.
- 4/5
Breakfast was decent but worse coffee we have ever had (and we are not that picky with coffee). Hotel is close to the Lincoln Museum, but the area is a little sketchy. Hotel was just okay. We were only there for one night and I wouldn’t want to stay there any longer than that. Not the cleanest hotel but also, not the worst.
- 4/5
A bit run down but well priced and conveniently located. Superb staff!
- 5/5
Utilitarian hotel but very nice staff and excellent for a business stay.

There was a smoke detector in the hallway or another room that was beeping on the 3rd floor that was going all night.
- 5/5
The bed was perfect!!!! Pillows were definitely comfortable!!!! The staff was always available and took care of the customers and their needs with a smile and was very pleasant!!! Would definitely stay again if i was in the area.
- 3/5
Room was fine. Small breakfast area
- 3/5
The staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was next to the hotel and well lit. The downtown area is quiet at night and the weekend. But, there are fun restaurants and tourist spots nearby.
- 4/5
Did not experience the breakfast, so cannot comment but it looked sufficient.
- 2/5
Had to switch rooms after entering our original. Dried urine all over toilet and floor. Beds were made but when I pulled the covers back it looked dog hair all over the sheet.
- 5/5
Good breakfast, nice rooms, good location, great staff, great price
- 2/5
The breakfast was maybe the worst hotel breakfast I’ve ever seen. Everything was made of styrofoam. The coffee was awful. There were no hot eggs. The hot dish was biscuits & gravy, which didn't look good. The location was great. Everything else quite disappointing.
- 4/5
Very good
- 4/5
Conveniently located near the business district area of Springfield and centrally located not far from some of the major sights of Springfield, this hotel is an ideal place to stay while visiting Springfield. My room was clean, the bathroom was clean, the beds and pillows were softer than what I prefer but they were adequate. The amenities were good for the rate. They have a small fitness center which was adequate for my need. The complimentary breakfast had a decent variety to choose from. The customer service was good. My only issue was the room AC/ Heater control. When on heat setting, even at a low temp, the room got pretty hot. So the thermostat needed to be on Cool at a high temperature. Other than, no issues and I would stay here again.
- 4/5
Only problem was odd smells
- 4.5/5

Great place to stay, wonderful location
- 4/5
Good bed, clean room, small breakfast but all I really need is that waffle maker lol. We would definitely stay again. Well worth the money, and right downtown!
- 5/5
Came for a two day business trip with family. The hotel was close to downtown, convenient to our meeting place, and a good value. I would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Close to hospital. Friendly staff.
- 4/5
Very convenient to the hospital.
- 3/5
Location was good
- 4/5
Property is clean. Staff is attentive, polite and English language challenged. I had to request bath towels, paper, and tissue upon check- in. One-time anomoly. Otherwise, I recommend this property.
- 5/5
No complaints aceptable and clean.
- 4/5
The room was nice, only issue was they shower did not get warm enough
- 4/5
Staff was wonderful! This is an older hotel, so it has a couple quirks. When I reported the rocking toilet, staff and maintenance was quick to come examine and do as much as they could to stabilize. Springfield is surprisingly quiet (other than the occasional trains) with low car and foot traffic. Everyone was wonderful during our stay!
- 5/5
Always great
- 4/5
Appreciated the ability to check in early
- 5/5
Room was spotless, checking in easy, quiet place to sleep even with hospital across the street. We needed to be close to our medical center (memorial med center for surgery the next morning) worked out great and cost was affordable.
- 5/5
Room was spotless and staff was friendly. The breakfast was neat and clean. New carpet throughout too.
- 4/5
Checkin was courteous, informative and quick. Room was spacious. Nice to have the frig and microwave but didn’t end up using. Bed was comfy. Shower good temp and good pressure. The breakfast was very basic and blah. Biscuits were good. Walkable to downtown restaurants, bars and sites. Hospital across street.
- 4/5
Room was ok, clean enough. Had a stain on the bed skirt. Bed was firm. Breakfast was good. Great for a quick overnight.
- 2/5
So, staff, the best. Hotel, needs serious revamp. Shower leaked out everywhere (curtain was too high :). And the toilet didn’t work.

Convince to hospital. Bathroom was moldy, the tv had maybe 10 channels and 8 of those were sports. Told the desk person about it , he came to the room checked it out said he'd check it out, nothing was done about it. There wasn't even any local channels to watch news or anything.

Breakfast was fair. Not full house but was still placed on side of traffic, smoke alarm went off and no one came to let us know anything! Noisy fans in bathroom. Could hear next doors bathroom fans left on all night!
- 5/5
Room, breakfast, location
- 3/5
Staff was friendly.
- 2/5
DIRTY room, LOUD, VERY smelly room
- 3/5
The rooms weren't the cleanest. The bed was all made up with a needle to insulin laying in the bed with a cap. Took it to the front desk and they didn't seem to care. Breakfast option was good.
- 3.5/5
Good location for doing things downtown Can’t think of anything
- 5/5
The location of the hotel was perfect for us. We came to attend PRIDE and it was only a few blocks. The staff were wonderful and helpful. We will stay here again I had to go to another floor for ice
- 4/5
Good parking and close to the Lincoln museum
- 4/5
The room was nice the front desk worker were great
- 3.5/5
Basic hotel that gets the job done. Cheap and central.
- 3/5
Phone didn’t work. Tv channels were not aligned with the listing provided.
- 4.5/5
The bed was a little lumpy. Time for an upgrade.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, close to hospital, clean. Easy parking
- 5/5
Only problem was in the shower. Needed to move the head so water didnt flood bathroom. Only one shower curtain, no liner and it slid down slooping bar so lots of water got out. Needed additional towels to sop up all the water.
- 5/5
Lady who checked us in was great. Have a great recommendation on where to eat. A lot of sites all within walking distance.
- 3/5
Carpet seemed old. Few options at breakfast, no toaster, but it was very clean, the breakfast area and the room. Staff was Ok
- 3/5
Good
- 4/5
not as clean as I thought
- 2/5
Room was dirty. Under beds was very dusty and had random food pkgs and socks under them. Bathroom was not clean. Hairs in sink and on floors. The gym was also very dusty and dirty.
- 5/5
Clean hotel. Great location just north of Lincoln Museum/Library. Good breakfast. Great price. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Clean
- 3/5
Didt help well with my mom getting the shuttle. It should not be hard. The room was clean though.
- 2/5
Room lacked good blinds or drapes to provide adequate coverage to block the morning son. Drywall patching and tile repairs were poorly done. Breakfast lacked any good protein.
- 5/5
You can’t beat the location for that price….
- 5/5
Great stay! Clean room, great staff, good parking, great breakfast. Easy check in check out. Location is very convenient for walking to the Abraham Lincoln museum and library.
- 4/5
Room was very clean. We walked right in off the street and had to call someone up to register us. That was not upsetting at that time. But when we went out a little later to get something to eat and we came back and again no one was ever at the desk. This happened again later. The area is very dark around there and anyone, homeless or other could walk right in. I did not feel safe.
- 3.5/5
Location to downtown. Staff was quick to try and resolve issues. First room had a non-working heater and it was 35 degrees outside. Second room had a non-working fridge, but tolerable since we didn't need one. Water pressure and temp would change randomly during morning shower. Bed linen was torn. Paint job on room is spotty and vents are dirty. Overall, a dated hotel in need of upgrades. Breakfast was good, but missing the waffle mix for some reason.
- 4/5
Good value, free parking, walking distance to the Lincoln Presidential library.
- 5/5
Very nice place
- 3/5
Bathroom tub was dirty.
- 5/5
Great place. Clean, the front desk clerk was friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Nothing fancy but clean and good service. Breakfast was above average and, for me, a perfect location since I was there to visit my brother in St. John’s hospital right across the street.
- 2/5
I don't understand the rave reviews of this property. The neighbor to the east is a level one trauma center that has helicopters flying overhead and ambulances running lights and blaring sirens all hours of the day and night. The neighbor to the west is a soup kitchen. The property is decaying, the breakfast is at best - fuel. I've had two chiropractor visits since getting home because the bed was a joke. The only thing it has going for it is the staff - they were very nice.
- 3/5
Just ok
- 5/5
Only issue was the steep stairs to second floor for an older person with luggage. But it is an older home.
- 5/5
The room was very clean, as well as the lobby and hallways. Hotel staff was very pleasant. I would definitely stay here again.
- 4.5/5
friendly & courteous front desk staff great location to walk to downtown free & plenty of parking quiet & safe location
- 4.5/5
Close to the center of Springfield, and it was nice to walk around the old Route 66. The reception on Tuesday evening was very welcoming, and she was very kind to exchange some quarters for the washing machine and the dryer. The room was spacious and comfortable, and you really feel that this hotel was built to greet all travelers crossing the nation!
- 4.5/5
Carpet dated
- 4/5
Staff were not overly friendly.
- 4/5
Close to downtown
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Property was clean although older and sho2ed some signs of wear and tear.
- 4/5
Kind staff All was good
- 5/5
Nothing
- 5/5
Room was clean and beds were comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was a added plus.
- 4/5
For the price, pretty minimal. Not real clean. Remodel shabby. Towels thin. Breakfast okay.Staff friendly. Not at all as advertised on Expedia.
- 5/5
Staff particularly pleasant and helpful. Close to Lincoln Museum.
- 4/5
The staff was great, efficient and friendly. The location was perfect for our visit to Springfield.
- 5/5
Friendly staff and comfortable room!
- 5/5
Good hotel. Staff on receiption were very polite and helpful. Good clean room.
- 2/5
The room smelled of cigarettes. The shower rod was loose. Bed was fair.

Nice
- 5/5
The property is ideally situated, providing easy access to numerous tourist attractions. The property is ideally situated, providing easy access to numerous tourist attractions. The staff is very friendly!
- 5/5
The hotel was clean. We always stay in a pet free, smoke free hotel. We will return to this one when we travel through Illinois. The only negative thing was the noise of the ac.
- 5/5
Great location. Rooms clean and a good size.
- 3/5
The staff was very pleasant and polite..
- 4/5
Great for what I needed! It’s not brand new or perfect but clean and in good condition. A very good deal for the price- I would go back.
- 5/5
Our room was clean and we had great and prompt service. Bathrooms were clean as well with good amenities. This a great hotel that is close to downtown but not smack in the middle. Easy entrances and exit.
- 4/5
Very nice for the price.
- 5/5
Very nice. Recommended.
- 5/5
We had a very good stay at the hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was well kept and very clean. The hotel was very quiet qnd peaceful all night.
- 5/5
The hotel is very clean as well are the rooms. I'll be staying there again on my next trip to Springfield. The only drawback i have is the helicopter traffic from the nearby hospital.
- 5/5
Easy to get to the Fairgrounds. Just a mile away!!
- 4/5
Good location
- 5/5
Close and convenient to St Johns hospital
- 2/5
One of the rooms had a musty smell and the tub and shower had mold all around the edges. The other room was out of soap and shampoo. Also the carpet beside the bed was peeling away from the wall. Wouldn’t recommend. We stayed a couple of years back and no issues but this time will be our last.
- 5/5
Very convenient walk to many of the attractions. The place was clean, and the breakfast was good.
- 5/5
Was having surgery 8/22 and came up 8/21 because had to be at St Johns at 5:30 am. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
The room was great.
- 4/5
This hotel was nice for the money. The beds were comfortable and the staff was really friendly. The breakfast had hot options which was nice. The location was close to attractions. The only complaint is the room smelled a little funky like it may have had pets previously, but it was tolerable.
- 4/5
They would of got a 5 star however the toilet had NOT been cleaned! and if it was they need to replace it. Very easy to find, minutes away from fairgrounds. They have security cameras that was VERY impressive and thankful for.
- 5/5
Clean rooms and friendly staff. Perfect location
- 3/5
The hotel has nice beds, and clean bathroom. Breakfast looked unappetizing so I just had a banana. There is a rather strong odor in the hotel. That was not pleasantl.
- 5/5
After spending the day at the fair it was great to be greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable desk clerk. Corinna was very helpful and welcoming. The first impression starts at the front desk and she made us happy. Thank you.
- 4/5
Overall it was a nice stay. It was super close to the state fair which is why we were there. The main problem was outside noise. I sleep with ear plugs and I still heard police sirens several times throughout the night. I think soundproof windows would be a great investment.
- 5/5
Stayed here when family visited Lincoln Presidential Museum. Clean, efficient check in, breakfast is average.
- 5/5
Perfect place to stay near the hospital.
- 4/5
Both our rooms were comfortable however 1 room didn't have any darkening curtains and the other was hanging. Coffee machine waa horrible it spilled and tastes like mud. No hot eggs.
- 5/5
Thank you the staff were all kind and welcoming. Room was nice and clean. Thank you again
- 4/5
It was an ok hotel for the price. The interior of the room was clean and they did change our room for a different one when the toilet began to leak from the bottom. The halls of the hotel have moldy, stale smell. 6th street seems to be a drag racing strip in the city and we were up most of the night with cars racing.
- 4/5
The hotel is old and bathrooms could use some proper repairs around the tub.
- 5/5
Convenient location for all of the Lincoln tours we wanted to do. Nothing fancy, but it worked for us.
- 4/5
For the price, this was fine. If you are looking for a pool, or other amenities, they are lacking. Location allowed me to walk to the Lincoln Museum, Library and Pub/Restaurant. Walking down 5th street was a little sketchy, 6th was better. Front desk fought me when I requested late check out due to rental car delay-but last at front desk was nice enough to go up to my room and gather my suitcase and stuff and put behind front desk.
- 5/5
Everything things.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed seeing Springfield and the Lincoln tomb. Our hotel was comfortable and clean and very well situated among the historic places we wanted to see. Thanks!
- 3/5
If you're looking for a place next to the Lincoln Museum this place will work. Just dont expect much.
- 3/5
Given the reviews, I had higher expectations. The room was fine, but there was garbage behind the bathroom door. The previous occupant had a 6am alarm set, which went off during our stay, and housekeeping knocked on our door at 7:58am. (!!??)
- 4/5
Not enough places to eat.

Location within walking distance of Lincoln Museum--very convenient. Staff was helpful, friendly. Rooms could have been cleaner in the details. Room air conditioning wasn't working well.
- 5/5
Great room close to the hospital and super-nice staff.
- 2/5
Our stay here was subpar. Elevator reeked of freshly smoked cannabis, old debris and trash under the beds and in corners of bathroom. Room keeping (a male) tried to barge in at 8 am by beginning to unlock the door as he announced that he was staff. I had 2 young ladies and my girlfriend changing or in bed at the time. I had to dash to get to the door and close it in time before he opened it and I was already standing nearby.

I after i arrived, I decided to stay elsewhere

Wonderful location.. Very clean. Used by a lot of people from the nearby hospital. We used it for the downtown access. Amazing access point.

Nice clean hotel close to the Lincoln home
- 5/5
Everything was very good, including breakfast. I would stay here again.

This hotel is perfectly located for sightseeing and touring Lincoln museums, Presidential Library and a beautiful downtown area. The desk staff and housekeeping staff are friendly and happy to accommodate. There are plenty of amenities. After a long trip hauling animals, they allowed us to check in early. We would stay there again.

Two night stay was adequately satisfactory. The hotel is a bit dated, but completely serviceable and safe. I would totally recommend staying as long as you’re not planning to spend too much time in your room.

Everyone was nice and shower was amazing

Excellent service.
- 4/5
It was convenient. Nice enough for a short stay. Friendly staff. Breakfast left a lot to be desired.
- 5/5
Young man at desk was amazing. Helped a family member find hotel when he got lost in Springfield. Very good breakfast. Quiet location even when hosting a group of students in for the state finals.
- 3/5
In question the cleanliness. The room smelled, so we bought air freshener and used the whole can. The sink didn’t have a stopper and it looked like someone lost teeth or dentures in the drain. See pic.

NI’m ce hotel on the edge of downtown Springfield.
- 1/5
It smelled the mildew and cigarettes. Save yourself the trouble and stay far, far away from this place. We would have been so willing to leave a good review if management was the least bit accommodating.
- 3/5
For the price it was fine. However, for a no smoking hotel, our room reeked of marijuana. Also, mold on bathroom floor and walls next to tub.
- 4/5
Front desk concierge Corrina was friendly, helpful and informative. Staff was always smiling and kind. Fitness room was convenient and quiet. Good location/parking. The only problem I had is the breakfast offerings were lean. I'm not a big fan of biscuits and gravy and wish there would have been some basic protein, like pork sausage and eggs, in the breakfast.

It was ok for the money. I wish I had stayed a little closer to the Lincoln Museum.
- 5/5
They need more breakfast we enjoy say there
- 5/5
Convenient location, reasonable price, clean

Great place, safe location, lots to do and see nearby.

Great location. We were able to walk everywhere we went. Great value for the money. The room met all our needs. Would stay again.
- 5/5
The property and hotel are clean. Good place to stay. Close to everywhere.
- 4/5
Check-in was easy and the staff was friendly. I liked the free parking and breakfast was included.

Staff was wonderful! Checked in....dropped bags in rooms (we needed 2 rooms) and quickly left to see Lincoln Museum. Upon arrival we noticed in our room 218 a huge crack in window With what looked like a "bullet" type puncture. The green bed ruffle was full of stains. The microwave Was wiped out ,but the corners were filthy. ROOm 220 was not clean either. The bed mattress was worse than a hideaway bed! We ate and then checked out. We wete in our room no more than the time it took to eat. Place smelled musty too, which is not great for the allergies. We did not mention anything to front desk when we left shortly after arrival as some of the family hates confrontation. So she simply said that we needed to get home. It looks like the owners tried to make it look ok with paint, but carpet is old. Beds old....would highly discourage! Not a great area either...close to museum, but otherwise NO!! So we are out the $224.00!!

The whole city is empty, not much people. Kinda hard to stay especially of you are coming from crowded cities like Chicago!

Biscuits and gravy are okay , but not every day.....
- 4/5
The hotel's Sunday breakfast during my overnight stay was biscuits and gravy which I thought was quite good. Biscuits were flaky and moist. Ther was also the make your own waffle, yougart and apples and mandarin oranges as a fresh fruit option. Niether I nor my husband had a comfortable night's sleep. The bed was bumpy, hard and the pillows were lumpy. Please invest in new bedding.

We stayed while our brother was in hospice at Memorial. The staff was very kind to us.
- 5/5
Very close to downtown- safe area
- 5/5
It just seemed (like all downtowns) like there were a few homeless people in the area, and a breadline a block away.
- 4/5
Close to downtown Springfield. Clean property, a little dated, but fine for our needs.
- 5/5
I stay at this hotel every time I am in Springfield. It is right on the edge of the downtown area, so lots of food options in the area. I usually visit Springfield for the Illinois State Fair in August, and this hotel is only a 5-minute drive from the fairgrounds. Always reasonably priced compared to several other hotels in the area. It's a bit older than some, but as long as you aren't looking for anything real modern or fancy, it is a solid stay.

Nothing!

The Carpenter Hotel was the perfect location. Close to the hospital and walking distance to groceries.
- 5/5
Great location near to the capitol and Lincoln Library and Museum
- 4/5
For the cost, it was a great room. My only main complaint was I couldn't close the dark curtains. The room was cool, so I just increased the temperature, and I can't knock on something like that.
- 3/5
There was a huge crack in the window. The shade was stuck in the closed position. The bathroom sink was missing a drain plug. At least the attendant offered us a different room.
- 4/5
The hotel staff were very kind and tried to be helpful in any way. The hotel is dated, but very clean & comfortable. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable and everything in the room worked as it should. It is only 4 blocks from the hospital and very convenient.
- 4/5
This is a really nice little hotel. We were just passing through on our way further South. I liked the reviews and cost on Expedia and so I booked it. The friendly front desk woman recommended a great Micro brewery for dinner. The room was nice with a good bed. Breakfast was included. So, beat that ! Steve and Patsy K.
- 5/5
Nice older hotel. Beds were comfortable. Clean and staff were friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
There was some initial confusion at check in, when we were given a room that was still occupied. However the staff was great at switching out our rooms and putting us in another (unoccupied) space. :)
- 4/5
Hotel is a little dated. Noticed cobwebs on the ceiling, room seemed/smelled a little stuffy. Not terrible, but could use improvement.
- 5/5
Parking limited and homeless stand around area
- 5/5
Quiet, clean, near hospital. Nice parking, polite staff.
- 5/5
Great place!
- 3/5
Convenient but they dont allow late check out past 11am and the pillows were terrible so bring your own.
- 4/5
The property was clean, which is all I really cared about. However, the photo they use as advertisement is not their property at all. Misleading.
- 2/5
Everything in the room was outdated, mattress was uncomfortable and some surfaces were visibly stained. I am not sure how it got so many positive reviews but I would not stay there again.
