Reviews
The Kimpton Monaco Hotel in Baltimore is generally well-liked for its historic charm, central location, and friendly staff. However, there are consistent complaints about the state of the rooms, with many guests finding them outdated, in need of maintenance, or not meeting the expected standard for the price.
- Historic charm and beautiful decor
- Central location, close to Inner Harbor and downtown attractions
- Rooms often found outdated or in need of maintenance
- Price does not always match the quality of the room

The staff was beyond helpful for any matter I needed assistance with. I can say they’ve surpassed any hotel experience.
- 5/5
Interior of the hotel was beautiful. Just as pictured. Received a complimentary room upgrade due to a birthday and the room was stunning. Also received 2 complimentary drink tickets for the hotel restaurant. Only negative was the AC in the bedroom area wasn’t working as well as the living room. Overall would stay again !

We had a wonderful stay and would totally come back again on our next visit to Baltimore. The hotel was immaculate and tastefully decorated with many luxury finishes. The service was wonderful and we really enjoyed the lounge. Highly recommended!

Convenience. It was difficult finding the check-in desk. The food in the restaurant was mediocre and the service was terrible.

Just a bad part of town. Upon entering the hotel youThe hotel room was nice but there was no coffee in the room
- 5/5
The hotel was incredibly clean, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff was very friendly. The area around the hotel, however, is very sketchy, and for that reason I wouldn't want to stay here again. Baltimore sucks 😂
- 5/5
Very convenient location if you are visiting the conference center. We stayed in a newly renovated room, and it was quite nice! The restaurant is worth checking out while you stay.

Nice property. Mattress was nice and firm. Bathrooms were nice looking. Water could be a little hotter but still a nice place to stay, for sure.

The room was just as pictured online. Clean and very neat! The hotel also has courteous staff and is close enough to grocery stores, a train station, and other amenities.

Staff not helpful during the process. Very frustrating.
- 4/5
(IT'S A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING - QUITE STUNNING REALLY) BUT THERE WERE MINOR ISSUES: THE BATHROOM AFFILIATED WITH THE RESTAURANT WAS OUT OF TOILET PAPER AS WELL AS PAPER TOWELS OUR ROOM AT CHECK IN HAD A TOILET WITH URINE AND TOILET PAPER - UNFLUSHED CLEARLY A LACK OF OVERSIGHT -IN SPITE OF THAT, WE WOUD RETURN - JUST A HEADS UP
- 3/5
This didn’t feel like a hotel and the lobby was disjointed. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The showerheads felt like spitting needles. And it was inside of an old-school standup tub.
- 4/5
The room was nice and clean. Minimal interaction with the staff, but of who I encountered, they were nice. Coffee and wine hour in the lobby are always nice. A chance to interact with other hotel guest. A real downside to the hotel, was the restaurant, which was one of the few amenities and a party of the reason we selected the hotel. Tables were dirty and full of glasses and previous dinners’ dishes for quite a while before cleared. They seemed a bit understaffed so we only had drinks and no food. Overall, a nice hotel.
- 5/5
Parking price was high. And we booked for 6 people and there was missing bedding and towels. Tried to call the lobby to have it delivered but our phone did not work.

Beautiful Hotel, rooms were great. Staff was very efficient. Parking price was high. And we booked for 6 people and there was missing bedding and towels. Tried to call the lobby to have it delivered but our phone did not work.

No breakfast included. There is a restaurant on site but it’s expensive and there is no parking garage. You have to pay for your parking $35 a day. They don’t validate and it’s 2 blocks away

I had an amazing stay at this hotel! The staff was very kind and helpful. The food at the B&O American Brasserie was great, especially the challah bread French toast. I will definitely be back soon!

Room was clean, towels looked new. Staff we interacted with were great. Parking with valet was a little challenging as front was full, and check-in a floor up was inconvenient. But, the price is great and location great.

You could sport for real glasses, a soap dish, and just maybe a wastebasket in the bathroom. Complimentary waters might also be on brand. Clearly there were many corners cut when applying lipstick to this pig.

Super fast check in , helpful staff!
- 5/5
The hotel was very clean and very nice. Feeling of luxury without paying the luxury price. I will definitely be staying there again. Oh and it’s convenient to everything. 15 minutes from the airport

The entrance of the hotel is BEAUTIFUL! Staff at checkin very warming. Excited about our recent nuptials, upgraded our room to a King Suite, and provided a bottle of wine to celebrate. However the staff during the night were not as friendly. We requested towel and an iron, a simple request was met with irritation and a delayed delivery. Room was spacious, decor can use an update (the side table was cracked). We did receive to breakfast vouchers to use at connected restaurants which ended our trip on the best note. The staff knowledgeable and friendly, the food arrived within a timely manner warm and delicious. Overall I would rate our stay a 4.

Room and parking was easy. However, I had to make multiple calls to the front desk for a hairdryer, toilet paper.

Things did not work in the room. Like the lights in the hallway and phone. The beds weren’t made everyday
- 3/5
First room the air didn’t work, second room the lock was broke, 3rd room was fine but the area is just so dead now and there is no free breakfast or pool so nothing that would make me want to stay there again.

Clean rooms. Staff wasn’t overly welcoming and didn’t go out of their way, just average. They didn’t provide enough towels, always had to ask for more. Attached restaurant was terrible, always out of basic items and service was slow, didn’t match expectations based on their website. Room was very big, but one half of the curtain didn’t work, so we could only open half the blind. Also storage was a bit of an issue, for such a large room it didn’t offer much. Overall a good experience, but not amazing.
- 3/5
Room was clean, loved the vaulted ceilings. It was a bit confusing at first upon arrival as the Hotel Lobby is not on the main floor, but rather up a level. Our phone was broken, so we had to physically visit the Lobby for assistance (needed a hair dryer and linens brought to the room). Restaurant attached to the hotel was horrible - staff were inattentive and dismissive. A chunk of the menu was not available. Poor selection of spirits. Music choice was not appealing. Overall a 1/5 for the restaurant/bar and the waiter & bartender. I would not recommend on any level.
- 5/5
It wasnt worth taking it down a star, but there was a screw up with their menu for b&o which sent me to grub hub, they don't use grub hub. Also the TV was glitchy. But i don't normally watch TV on trips and the B&O restaurant went over and beyond making things right for me.
- 3/5
In room dining was a joke definitely no longer a five star hotel just the design the aesthetic, but there’s nothing five star about this hotel and I’ve been to plenty
- 5/5
Quiet large comfortable rooms. Delicious coffee in the lobby but only in the morning. It would be nice to have it available all day/evening.
- 5/5
Excellent hotel design
- 5/5
Love that there is no pet fee. Very pet friendly! Front desk staff and valet staff were awesome!
- 2/5
We chose this hotel primarily for its proximity to CFG Bank Arena, which was indeed convenient and within walking distance. However, that was the only positive aspect of our stay. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt disorganized. Valet parking was confusing—there was no clear indication of whether they were affiliated with the hotel or the building. We followed the instructions on the ticket to text ahead for our car, but when we arrived, the request hadn’t been processed and we still had to notify them in person. Check-in was equally frustrating. The front desk staff came across as rushed and uninterested, despite it not being busy at all. There was no hospitality, no warmth—just a transactional experience that made us feel like an inconvenience rather than guests. The room itself was fine and matched the photos, but the hotel overall offers very little in terms of amenities. For a Kimpton-branded property, it felt underwhelming—comparable to a basic roadside hotel rather than a boutique experience. There is no true lounge or bar area, only a restaurant that closes early, so don’t expect to enjoy a cocktail or unwind in the evening. Customer service continued to decline throughout our stay. Security staff were unhelpful and disengaged, often
- 1/5
0/10 experience, definitely does not match the aesthetics. Underlying fees, expensive valet, couldn't take pictures in the lobby, rude workers.
- 2/5
The only pro I can really say is the downstairs is really beautiful, but the rooms are definitely not worth $500 a night. I called twice about the AC not working. The room stayed at 76 even after they came up twice to look at it, and the toilets wouldn’t flush had to call them after they came up to look at it. They got it to flush, but then we proceeded to have issues with it not flushing, but it was so late. We just didn’t bother to call.
- 5/5
More food options in gift shop/pantry.
- 4/5
Very nice hotel but not in the nicest area lots of homeless individuals liked to hang out near the front. Staff was exceptional very helpful and friendly. The only big dislike was that I purposely picked the Kimpton because on Expedia it had listed each room having a bathtub. When I arrived there was no bathtub - they said they recently renovated and took all the bathtubs out. I honestly would not have stayed here had I known there was no tub which I needed due to my autoimmune disorder. I spent 4 days very cold and stiff- the shower did not cut it. The room was very clean and housekeeping was right on top of everything. I had clean towels every day and the room was cleaned. Only thing besides the tub was there was only 1 trash can in the bathroom. I didn’t want to throw food leftovers in the bathroom trash. Bed was comfortable and had a large comforter on top which is better than just the thin blanket at other hotels. There also was not a lot of restaurant choices around the area and the bartender at the hotel restaurant was extremely rude- I get she was working by herself and there was an influx of people due to a conference, but she didn’t need to be rude and blatantly ignore you when you were at the bar (especially because it was really the only place). Don’t go walking for something to eat after 8 because there is nothing except for a Royal Farms which did not have the best characters hanging out at.

The Monaco is a beautiful, historic hotel. One of the finest in the City. From reception and throughout my stay, the staff were warmly welcoming, always helpful with questions or needs, and made it one of the best stays I've ever had. It is located in an excellent area of the city, with a wide range of transportation. The B&O restaurant and bar in the hotel was absolutely wonderful -- meals, drink, and service. Patrick and the other staff make you feel welcome, and do an excellent job, from start to finish. Great place to gather with colleagues. Since the Monaco is a short walk to the Convention Center, it is an excellent choice for business travelers. I think it might be nicer to have at least a few more options for coffee and breakfast in the morning. There is the Market Store in the lobby, but those options are spare. Put out some muffins or bagels with the coffee!

From the moment I pulled up, the experience was outstanding. The valet team was incredibly welcoming — super friendly, greeted me right away, and walked me to the elevator while explaining where to go for check-in. That level of hospitality set the tone immediately. At the front desk, I was warmly greeted and the check-in process was smooth. After giving my information, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that my room had been upgraded free of charge! On top of that, they also provided a complimentary fruit plate, which was such a thoughtful touch. When I got to the room, I was honestly blown away — it was beautiful, like something out of a movie. Stylish, comfortable, and clearly well cared for. The whole stay felt special and elevated. Overall, truly a 5/5 experience. Excellent service, great attention to detail, and a memorable stay. I would absolutely come back and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Baltimore.

Beautifully restored historic building and a short walk to the Baltimore Convention Center and the waterfront. Check-in staff person at the front desk was not friendly, as in quite indifferent and sullen. The streets around the property get pretty seedy after dark. Breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant was unimpressive.

The room lacked basic amenities such as coffee, water, floor mats, iron, phone, etc. The steamer was broken. The marketplace was bare and offered no toiletries and the only snacks are chips and cereal with no milk. The restaurant served me a burger with a broken piece of plastic inside. Would give it a zero but the aesthetics are nice.

This went way above my expectations! We were treated with exceptional customer service, we’re so impressed with the breakfast, and loved the beautiful designs throughout the hotel. For the price this felt like a very high class experience especially considering its location. This is a five star for me and I will stay here anytime I’m in Baltimore going forward.

Hotel was pretty and rooms nice but the shower had no pressure and the ice machine on floor spit out a piece every other minute !
- 4/5
The hotel rooms are bare bones when it came to amenities; lotion, soaps, body wash, market was pretty much empty, cannot stream/cast to TV. I’ve stayed at other Hotel Monaco locations that were just more “luxury feel.”

LOVED our stay here. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were clean and large, the beds were SO comfortable. The hotel itself was funky yet gorgeous, modern yet regal. All within walking distance of the arena at which we were seeing a concert. Parking stinks, but valet was great (maybe overpriced at $55 per night?). would ABSOLUTELY stay here again.
- 5/5
Everything, the attentiveness, the cleanliness and the attention to everything. Will definitely be back soon!
- 4/5
The staff was very friendly and the overall experience was pleasant. You are located in the heart of the city, so even on the 7th floor there are city noise from sirens and emergency vehicles, however with some white noise playing, it did not impact our sleep.
- 4/5
Service was very good.
- 3/5
Clean room, nicely furnished and finished. No amenities (minibar, laundry bags, glasses). Room service came in takeout boxes
- 4/5
We stayed theee nights for quick getaway. Check in was great and staff were very attentive, attentive and professional. Location is great. Between inner Harbor and monument, museum. Quick uber ride to Fells Point. Room was clean with large window. It has nice feeling. Only thing is very minimal amenity. No water, no mini bar, glasses or bucket, dish for soap, etc….For the price, understandable but more comfort would be great as many places close so early in Baltimore. Booed by the rating and review. It was unbelievable deal but I will rather pay more to have more setups.
- 4/5
Everything was immaculate. Just some curious choices leaving me from giving it 5 stars. Toilet paper quality, coffee bar choices, toiletries and amenities-those things shouldn’t be Holiday Inn levels of quality for a hotel Monaco.

No Bell Hop. No luggage carts. Only one restaurant that sucks. Dripping noise all night in our room. No maid service. Room service until 10pm and food is awful. The pitiful excuse for a hotel market had no beverage options and stale products. Stay elsewhere
- 5/5
The service and room
- 3/5
Property seemed understaffed or just poor service. No bellhop, 25 minutes to get valet (just cancelled and caught uber), toilet leaking badly, water takes ten minutes to get hot, housekeeping a no-show on day one. Overall, a clean room and hotel but no service anywhere. Feels like a great 3 star!
- 2/5
I always look for a Kimpton anytime I travel for the past 20 years. Unfortunately, this stay was different. The staff at the door did not help me get transportation to airport, I had to go to Marriott for help. The happy hour was sad.... wine in a plastic container at desk... it was like a ghost town. The pillows were all feather (I am allergic) 45 minutes to get new ones from a guy in a scary hoodie.. The TV did not work. If it was a family visit,, I would have switched hotels.
- 4/5
AC kept turning to heat two nights in a row. The second night they moved me to another room. Food was GREAT!
- 4/5
Was a great experience overall, room acoustics were good, quiet for the city, and bedding was excellent, but tv is outdated and the shower design is odd, to turn it on it blasts you with cold water and sprays water everywhere, it needs to be cleaned so the water shoots straight.
- 5/5
This place was beautiful and staff was cool as ice. Just would like an egg or two for breakfast is all. Otherwise…killer stuff yall

Beautiful hotel, great location for venue and additional Baltimore sights. Updated comfortable, clean rooms.

Love this hotel, highly recommended
- 4/5
We stayed in both a king room and a suite — both were great, though the suite was definitely our favorite (wish it had a bathtub, though). Our stay got off to a rough start because the first room we were given was really dirty — mismatched yellow towels, random hairs in the bed (which we found while checking for pests), and lots of dusty spots that should have been cleaned more thoroughly. Thankfully, the staff was responsive and moved us to a different room, which was much better. Once settled, we appreciated the comfortable setup and dog-friendly vibe inside the hotel. It’s a sensible place for traveling with pets — inside feels safe and calm — but outside can feel a little dodgy, especially at night. The in-room amenities and coffee/tea setup were just okay, and we didn’t get to try the evening wine reception. The lobby is located on the 2nd floor — you can take the elevator or a set of stunning (but steep and possibly slippery) marble stairs. I recommend the elevator. Security is visible, which was reassuring — one guard even had to step in when someone bothered us outside. Walking dogs in the area isn’t ideal, and the second-floor lobby setup also makes deliveries a little awkward, so it helps to coordinate with the front desk and drivers. Valet parking is a bit tight with limited space out front, but overall, the hotel is very convenient if you’re heading to events at the downtown arena.

Room was clean and the lobby beautiful. They allowed us to check in early which was a plus. However, AC intermittently stops working. The toiletry very basic, no cotton balls or q-tips, a bar soap and shampoo. House keeping inconsistent, we stayed 3 nights. The 1st night they cleaned and on the 2 night we asked why house keeping didn’t clean. They said we have to request by 1 pm, we were never told this. Good thing when the housekeeper came by to drop off towels, they offered to clean which was nice. The TV didn’t work as well but we don’t really watch TV so we didn’t complain about this. Overall it’s a beautiful but old building, Kimpton has updated the furnishing and they always do a good job with that. Parking is valet only and it’s about $50 a day so be prepared for that. We didn’t walk outside the hotel but it’s not a far drive from tourist spots. It was a comfortable staybut customer service is definitely lacking.
- 5/5
Externally property was a mess
- 5/5
Love that staff and room! Love the history of the hotel and Kimpton revived it.
- 5/5
I liked the B&O theme including the restaurant. The architecture was great. Arriving late at night, the lobby seemed a little gloomy. Not sure what could be done about that. I enjoyed my stay. Thanks.
- 5/5
Fantastic giant room in beautiful, impeccably restored building. Loved the in-house wine happy hour. Convenient walk to my conference at the Inner Harbor, and close to Camden Yards. Would definitely return.
- 4/5
This hotel has the potential to be a true 5-star property. The experience was pleasant overall, but there are a few areas that could be improved. The main issue lies with the attitude of some of the female front desk staff, whose approach came across as less than welcoming. In contrast, the male staff members were consistently helpful and demonstrated a genuine willingness to assist. With some attention to customer service training and consistency at the front desk, this hotel could easily rise to a top-tier level.

The room was big and nice and the hotel was beautiful, staff was nice. No coffee machine in the room, toilet vent was not working, only one bin in the room, no breakfast, coffee and tea in the reception for very limited hours, the elliptical in the gym was broken and noisy, no bar at the hotel, check out is super early and check in is super late, took 30 minutes to get our car from the parking. Very bad value for money.

It was gorgeous and clean. The natural light and window coverings were great. I did not love the products in the bathroom but had packed my own.

Valet experience was horrible and traumatic. Was treated extremely rudely, and ended up driving around to find a parking garage. Main valet guy so rude I will never come back or recommend

Staff was not hospitable. Counter staff had a conversation with me without even looking up from the computer—never looked me in the eye. We requested a set of towels for our room one morning and it took almost an hour for them to be delivered—by the time they came, it was almost time to check-out, so we didn’t even have time to shower.

Very beautiful hotel and room

The rooms feel brand new and lovely. However, I was missing a blow dryer in my room, and a welcome water would have been a nice touch. Additionally, considering the amount of money we pay for valet service at this location, I believe better service should be provided better during the night. Usually, the valet staff is asleep, and you have to either find them yourself or knock on the valet room door a few times to wake them up. Perhaps implementing a better front monitoring system for valet would be beneficial.

Beautiful hotel in a historic building. Loved it. The maid did not check the floor when cleaning, and I found a used cup and plastic pearl on the floor. Great service, otherwise. Rooms were decorated in art deco style which was lovely; however, it was weird that there was the ugliest garbage can in the bathroom that looked like something from Office Depot. Fantastic lighting.

size of room, comfort of bed lack of/type of toiletries provided. lack of proper towels/washclothes/bath mat provided. halfway open shower glass. no water provided in room. i would expect better from a 4star hotel.

Very convenient to the concert we went to at the arena. We were able to get snacks in the lobby afterwards and order DoorDash late night. Dunkin' Donuts was across the street for morning breakfast. The wine happy hour is a huge bonus and coffee/tea in the morning. Our room was big and the bed was comfortable. It was easy to get to and easy to navigate leaving the city. Valet was quick and easy too, right out front. I would definitely recommend.

Our rooms had a lot of random small issues that weren’t expected from 4-star hotel, especially

It’s not readily mentioned but the Hotel is located in the former HQ Bldg of the Historic Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. Half of the building is occupied by the hotel and the remaining half by office buildings. The rooms were nicely appointed and the staff was helpful. If there was a reason to be in Baltimore I’d happily consider staying again at my member discounted Expedia price.

The service was ok in the beginning. Pre- paying for parking was a great option. The room was short towels, it took multiple requests and trip to the front desk to get them. No hair dryer or trash can in the bathroom. Limited food options on property, not safe to travel around property at night.

Location was hard to get an Uber or taxi without them having to double park and causing us to step into the street

Came here for a weekend trip I pain over 1k for two nights reserves a king bed with a nice bathtub. When I checked in they gave me two queen beds and regular bathroom not to mention the safe didn’t work. When I went to the desk to request what I had paid for they had no explanation and none of them were able to help they requested I wait til the morning to talk to a manager. I was frustrated for all the money I felt I wasted. The hotel is right DT which had a lot of homelessness and crime I wish I would have done more research I feel like I wasted so much money. I didn’t even stay but that one night I left and never came back. Would not recommend would never return please educated your staff to be more helpful or perhaps have a on call manager for situations like this!!!

This hotel is amazing. Very friendly, in a great location, and had no problems. My dog came with me and they did not give me a hard time or make me feel judged like other hotels have. Great walking distance, had complimentary wine hour and tea/coffee. 10/10 stay all around. We will be returning upon ventures in Bmore area!

Air conditioning in room didn’t cool below 73, but was noisy with the fan running all night. Room needed better maintenance. Housekeeping removed used towels but didn’t replace them. Valet parking was $55 a night. Area around hotel was sketchy.

Didn't like that u offer spa tube and no longer at the facility and I paid that much for a room thinking I was getting it. Booking u need to update details of room its false advertising.

I thought the property looked great. However there is something going on with your TV antenna. Problems with the channels. Also, you seem to have a plumbing problem. Water does not go down well. Seems to back up.

Best food in town/ the Chef was wonderful, the food to die for! I will always stay here when I am in town and tell everyone I know how pleasant and relaxing this location is kept.I wish you had more stars for the staff and location

beautiful hotel

The hotel itself was interesting due to the historic significance. The king suite I booked needs some basic maintenance. The TV in the living room kept losing a signal. The TV in the bedroom wall mount swivel would not stay in place and the wall jack had fallen off the wall exposing a whole. The sliding bedroom door was stuck inside the wall and had to be pried open. I’ve stayed at the monoco in Philadelphia and it was outstanding, this time not so much, especially for the price tag. The bed was very comfortable and staff was friendly.

The air conditioning was not working in my suite I let the front desk know he told me somebody would be up to look at it nobody came the air conditioner was so loud I couldn’t sleep and it was blowing out hot air it wouldn’t go below 70 degrees I notified staff twice and nothing was done about it terrible customer service I wouldn’t recommend anybody for that reason
