Americas Best Value Inn Champaign

Some aspects were pretty dated but it was super clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. Had a bit of a problem with my first room but it was easily straightened out by Tammy. Housekeeping did a wonderful job.

A/C was so/so. Not extra cold. Room was dated. TV was not user friendly.

Room was hot at check in, a/c didn’t work. Changed rooms to one with a working a/c. Bathroom door was sprung, hard to close. Smelled of smoke (both kinds) stingy with pillows “King Bed only gets 3”. Not very welcoming. Rooms were very dark,light fixtures were few with dim bulbs. It enough plugs. Breakfast was inadequate, some danish, cereal, coffee and toast. One plus was the jet tub, it was very nice.

Holes in the wall. The dust along the wall was ridiculous. The air conditioner blew coolish air and was loud. The beds were sagging. The smell was anything but clean and made me nauseous. I do not recommend this hotel. At least my car was still there in the morning

I have been pleased when I stayed at other Americas Best Value Inns in northern Michigan, so I was surprised at the poor condition of the one in Champaign. The building had signs stating that it was a smoke-free facility, but the hallway and room had a strong smell of smoke. Everything in the room was badly worn. You could feel the wire springs and edge frame in the mattress. We did not stay, choosing to go to another hotel. We had made a no-refund reservation, but that was not enough of a reason to stay.

The breakfast was orange juice, coffee and bananas and cereal. No place to sit to have breakfast, only room for one. The bed was very uncomfortable Not what I’m use to from Hotels.com

The breakfast was a joke, we ended up grabbing our breakfast from Dunkin

Multiple bugs in room. Entire facility had a bad smell. Broken screen in window. Went to another hotel and did not get a refund after multiple attempts.

This place is terrible. There were cockroaches in the room. When i complained and requested change of room, they said " don't worry about them" .we will clean it out before your return". They did not and i couldn't help it but leave. Beeakfast was terrible. When i came down by 9am, they said food was finished and thats all they have. Then they refused to give back my deposit because i left my bags down in lobby because I stayed 3 hours beyond the required time. Am currently complaining them. This place is horrible and a lot of crack heads go there. Wouldn't recommend it ever.

One of the poorest motels I've ever been to. Plus the escalated rate for this facility was ridiculous. New mattress, new paint ,bath fan etc.

The hotel was comfortable and clean for a stay to attend UI football game. The price was adequate for what was offered. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Beds were really soft. Everything was very clean and smelled good. The fridge was super cold. We didn't use the microwave. The air worked well and the TV was nice. The food in the v ending machine wasn't edible...it was stale and had a funny taste.

I didn't actually get to stay there I booked a room under the agreement from staff I could smoke . Found out when I arrived that I would be charged a insaine amount if I did. Tried to get a refund and was denied, so basically they suck. And that's all I really gotta say about it .bunch of crooks if you ask me The rude staff , them clearly lieing to me in a e mail ? Not getting my money back for zero services.

Convenience of restaurants and store nearby. Found that we were sharing our room with a mouse. Manager didn’t offer to comp us for the disgusting inconvenience. Just put an old school mousetrap behind the nightstand and moved us to another room.

Staff waived the $100 mandatory deposit for smoking. There was plenty of parking available. My room was close to the front desk, so it was easy to come and go. The room itself was nice and what I expected for the price. When I checked in, one member of staff was yelling on the phone about a personal matter. The person checking me in was in training and couldn't complete the check-in until a third member of staff came to help. I ended up waiting 20 minutes for a pre-paid check-in. The breakfast was almost non-existent. There was only one option for cereal, only white bread for toast. The only hot item was packaged oatmeal. I understand that people may not always want breakfast, but there should be at least pastries or a better variety of bread items (bagels, english muffins, etc). There was no staff in the office at check-out.

They were running around the floor and inside the toilet Also it was a very noisy hotel at night people were running up and down the halls at 3 am banging in random doors. They were not children There was no free breakfast. No coffee. No coffeemaker in room A hotel should be, at a minimum, a clean quiet place to sleep. They need an exterminator and a security guard

The staff was nice

The shower knob was very difficult to turn to get hot water. The rooms were clean, if not spare. The hallway carpet was in poor condition. There were people running up and down the hall from 2 am to 3 am. The price was too high for what we got at this hotel.

Worn but clean walkable restaurants

The hotel was run down, the room was just Ok. The front desk is behind bullet proof glass, never a good sign. There is a weird smell - like a combination of Pot and Indian food that permeates the halways.

Old , smelled , tv was brok. Place was not worth $250. Maybe $59

The bathroom sink facet was plugged so that very little water came out. The lock chain for the door was broken. Room was clean and check in staff was polite. Price exceeded the value of the room.

Old yellow dingy sheets, cockroaches and other bugs, Staff/attendent didn’t notify me it was a “no refund establishment” until I noticed him about the bugs.

Perfect place to stay for on-campus events at UofI.

It was ok for what I needed..a room during a busy football weekend. No amenities to speak of but reasonable price and felt safe . It's an older, slightly deteriorating property but it provided what I wanted.

Not a safe area. Had another customer come in was asked to leave for cussing at the staff. The staff was fine but the angry man then sat outside for over an hour. Clearly an unsafe area with how many postings about calling the police.

Staff was friendly rooms were clean, but they have a big problem with their electronic keys. We were locked out of the room and had a hard time getting in.

It was not what I expected. The hallways smelled horrible. The rooms need to be upgraded and cleaned thoroughly. I came across some roaches in the room. The hotel need to be bombed and redone.

The place smelled bad. The breakfast only had coffee, cereal & juice. There was no microwave that was advertised. The tv was difficult to figure out how to work.

Room 105 is sleepable if you dont need the air conditioner its very very LOUD . The walls have holes and it has a small smell that after awhile goes away. Check in was good lady at the dest is very nice.

My room had infested with bugs and bed bugs. I talked to the receptionist and she told me verbatim “We’ve had these complaints before but there’s nothing we can do for you.” When I asked for a refund or a room change they told me they wouldn’t be able to do anything for me.

There were cigarette burns all over the hotel, linen, bath tub, and curtains. There were stains of questionable material on the ceiling. The room had a leaky/ running faucet.

I was overcharged for one night by over $10.00.

Huge glass window between you and the hotel personnel and could not hear what they were saying. Room smelled so terribly like smoke that you couldn’t hardly breathe. Cigarette burn holes on the blankets and burn marks on the bathtub. Holes in the walls everywhere. Broken electrical plates that are electrical shock and burn hazards. Never again and I would never recommend.

We called property and told them we would check in late and whennwe got to hotel no one was in lobby. We waited for over 1 hour and called and rang the bell and no one to let us in. We called expedia and waited another one hour and no luck. Because of this we waited over 4 hours in the middle of the night to get another hotel as all hotels were booked for mothers weekend. Absolutely ruined our weekend

cockroach in the sink upon entering. no coffee cups. coffee packet missing. not sugar. Ice machine broken. No iron in the building. No milk for the dry cereal visible. Very poor selection. No place to sit. manager entered room without knocking. Soap is terrible. doesn't lather, doesn't clean.

First I saw a roach. One iron in the building which was broken. Ice machine didn't work. Other guest complaining about tv. Too many plugs in one outlet. Coffee service messing cups. Raggedy repairs throughout.

I had reserved the room for the hotel and when i got there the manager cancelled my room because a glitch in hotels.com wasn’t showing they prepaid for the room i sat online for over an hour and a half just to get a credit for a room but the next room i had to pay twice as much the manager was rude and he stated rather than deal with he is not renting any room will never go back do not recommend

Almost 2 hrs to check in because no body at front desk

You decimated get what you pay for. The water was hot and the bed was soft, but no amenities. As i checked into my no smoking room the hallway reeked of weed. About 8:00 pm i went to front desk to ask for an iron and ironing board. I could see the iron and board. No one at the desk and had to dial 0 for service. Whoever picked up said i had to call back in the morning. So much for preparing. Advertised free breakfast was canceled. Only stake bread for toast, rice Krispy treats and a nice mixing that tasted watered down. Toilets are small and made for an elementary school. But like i said, the water was hot, need was soft, room was warm and cleaned at. Maids were very friendly and attentive.

From the moment you walk into the ABVI, you feel like you've entered a hotel that is barely hanging on. From the interactions with the grumpy staff behind the bulletproof window at the counter to the multiple signs indicating you're staying in an unsafe area, you never really feel at home in this second rate hotel. My bed had grit on the sheets that had either fallen from the popcorn ceiling or from inadequate preparation of the room. While technically a non-smoking hotel, the second floor wreaked of weed and tobacco smells. The 'breakfast' was never more than a banana and coffee from a pot that had been brewing for hours. If desperate for a room on a football weekend, this will suffice. However, I'd avoid if at all possible.

The price is super good but the place is clean and well managed.

The hallway smelled of weed. The breakfast consisted of a few packets of oatmeal and some cereal in dirty containers. There are people sleeping in their cars in the parking lot.

We reserved the HC room (Room 110 on Thursday evening) the room’s carpet cleaning odor was too strong (I think it was a powdered carpet deodorizer) and I am very sensitive to fragrances. It was hard to breathe. On Sunday, we reserved a room with 2 beds, it was so much better. I don’t know if our reservation for Sunday got lost and if I was double charged when my sister paid for one night?

Never saw anything about a deposit and the desk lady just had an attitude.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in!! Did not feel safe outside going to my vehicle. Office staff was very very rude, said breakfast was 6-9 and it actual didn’t open til 7.. the room smelled nasty and the shower didn’t work the front desk lady said pull something where the water comes out and the shower will work and it didn’t . $60 deposit and nothing in the room was worth $60.. Will never stay here again!!! It is not safe!!

The internet is excellent!

Front lobby floor was very sticky, evidently something had been spilled and not cleaned up properly. Room was clean enough but outlet did not work and spiders were present. Good reason for a low price stay. I would go there again by myself but never take family of friends with me.

TV did not work in room and we found a dead cockroach in the refrigerator. We were moved to another room, but cigarette burns on both bed quilts and stains on the wall. Complementary breakfast was non existent...nobody there when we came for breakfast and we were told it started at 6:30am. We came for college graduation and were VERY disappointed.

We only stayed in the other room for one night and my daughter and her boyfriend stayed with my son at his apt on the couch. Also the room I stayed in the shower did not work. The dresser was missing handles. It was dirty. It ruined my trip.

The bed and blankets were very uncomfortable. The bathroom reeked of cigarette smoke. The towels were stained. Half the outlets in the room didn’t work. Sketchy enough area that the front desk girl moved my room to the lower level from the upper due to men that made her uncomfortable upstairs.

The hotel was fine. Friendly people. But didn’t care for the breakfast choices. Only bread was white bread, no bagels or English muffins. Only fruit was bananas. No tea. Didn’t see any yogurt.

The sheets had holes from cigarette burns. I was in the shower when I saw a cockroach. I know theirs maintenance to be done in the rooms. But I have never been to a hotel where they go in when you are not there. We we’re coming back to the hotel room when we noticed our door was open and the cleaning lady’s were in there cleaning it’s uncomfortable and I prefer for it to be done once we had checked out. The hotel looked dirty and not maintained well I will never be staying here again.

Beware....this place gouges you to over $350 a night when it should be $83. Apparently special weekends at college make them take advantage of everyone that simply just need a place to sleep.

The property was in poor condition. The shower had drop ceiling and the tiles were bowed (wife thought they were going to fall. Cobb webs in the corner and peeling paint on the shower wall. The TV was small and took a while for picture to become clear. The owner/Manager is really nice but at checkout 11:00 there was nobody at the front desk nor during breakfast. If you're looking for more than a very modest breakfast compared to other brands you will be disappointed.

Sketchie is the best way to put this Hotel. Our bathroom door did not close unless you pulled it up and into the hinge. I went to the desk twice and no one was there. Had to call on a phone and the man only said what to do, never face to face. Checked in with someone, but after that did not see staff.

My suggestion - book only if absolutely necessary and do not bring anything into the room with you, as they might come home in your belongings!!

The hotel room had holes in the wall. The bathroom walls and tub were covered in mold. The bed sheets were covered in stains. We could not stay there and had to leave within 5 minutes of being there.

There was no cart to put my luggage on to get to my room. Im assuming it was the owner who stepped up and helped me with my luggage. He was always so pleasant to speak with. Our sink wouldnt drain properly and the faucet needed a washer and water sprayed onto the surface. Our dead bolt didn't work which made me a bit nervous.

Weeds and debris around building

Place was dirty and had dirty carpets!! Also the place had druggies hanging out in the hotel, lobby , and parking lot!! Weed smoke filled the lobby and rooms!!!

It was not what I expected. It advertised hot Breakfast which was coffee and oatmeal. That is not a hot breakfast.

We were there for our daughters graduation from U of I- the room rate was more than triple the normal rate- they really do NOT have a breakfast- coffee & toast. The building was not taken care- holes in walls, walls dirty..absolutely not worth the price we paid per night!!

It was such a terrible hotel and I cannot believe we paid so muxh to stay there. It was so dirty and you could hear the creaks in the floor above us!

Two stars is generous. I thought that it can’t be that bad given the ratings but it had a window to check in a multiple signs that you’d be thrown out if you were a problem. Kudos to the chambermaids who somehow made the rooms clean.

No one was at the front desk when I arrived. I called for service on their phone and waited 5 minutes for someone to arrrive. I had noisy neighbors in both adjoining rooms but the manager refused to give me a different room.

Stayed with family for 2 days to visit UIUC. Inn was clean and close to highway. Restaurants and gas stations were next door. Property was clean. Building was old but it was okay for me. Breakfast was okay - bread, butter, hot coco, milk, 2 cereals, juice, banana.
