Reviews
The Sono is a highly recommended property with lovely rooms, outstanding common areas, and a frig stocked with waters. Breakfast in the morning is a popular feature. The location in a largely residential area is a drawback for some, but it's an easy walk or Uber ride downtown. The staff, particularly Addie, are frequently praised for their friendliness and helpfulness.
- Lovely rooms and outstanding common areas
- Breakfast in the morning is a popular feature
- Location in a largely residential area
- Some guests found street parking to be an issue
- 5/5
Staff is very helpful. Kitchen stocked with beverages and snacks. Nice breakfast. On a pretty and quiet street.
- 1/5
Do not reserve the basement rooms! There is no in-room control of the temperature. The AC was so strong it was an igloo. I complained and AC was just turned off, so no air at all. The kitchen is directly above your bed. Every morning the sound of squeaky floors, smell of burned croissants. Security is lacking. The only key for the building is the front gate key. The basement rooms are near the laundry, so people are coming at all hours. The neighborhood is unsafe. The price is too high for an unsafe igloo in a basement.
- 5/5
Really great spot , nice room and parking was easy :)
- 5/5
Newly constructed property and everything was almost pristine. Comfortable, well appointed. Nice quiet neighborhood with ample street parking. Near CTA train stations and restaurants. Exceeded my expectations!
- 5/5
This was my second stay at the Sono. I love everything about it. It is a great location with restaurants within walking distance. Free to park close to hotel. Comfortable beds. Very clean!! Management is both helpful and friendly! Breakfast had healthy options. I plan to stay again next time I’m in town.
- 5/5
Cannot recommend this place enough. Peaceful, clean, and calm. Thoughtful staff.
- 5/5
Nice, clean place that's within walking
- 5/5
I see why they got good ratings everything does
- 5/5
Great place! Easy street parking and within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
- 5/5
Great spot to stay… me and my father came to Chicago to see the cubs and the white Sox great area and friendly staff
- 5/5
I can't recommend The Sono Chicago enough. We arrived early, but they were ready for us. We were personally escorted to our room, which was extremely clean and had the most comfortable bed. Parking was easy on the street. Breakfast was good and plentiful and it was nice having access to water and snacks. We will definitely be staying at this wonderful Old Town location each time we are in town.
- 5/5
Room was comfortable, with cozy seating and a large shower. Staff was courteous and attentive.
- 5/5
Beautiful place! Loved that we had parking and breakfast included!
- 5/5
Excellent guest services. Immaculately clean facility. Great location.
- 5/5
Excelente place, close to restaurants and very comfortable and clean.
- 5/5
Really happy with my choice of this lodging. Centrally located on a quiet street. Very new decor and bedding. Breakfast was good and adequate.
- 5/5
Great accommodations, great staff, very friendly!! Coming back for sure!
- 5/5
Cute bed and breakfast, you’re essentially renting a bedroom & bathroom. Very clean and pretty, easy to find and good parking. Jose was quick to respond to any questions and let us in. We didn’t use public transportation this trip but you are pretty close to the train. It was nice to have the fridge stocked with waters and things that you have access to 24/7 especially after coming home from a late night out. Definitely would stay there again, I don’t think it would be good for kids bc the rooms are smaller and it’s very quiet (good for us). Obviously a house so no gym or restaurant on site lol continental breakfast and coffee were good to take the edge off in the morning before going out to a later brunch
- 5/5
So nice!
- 5/5
Jose was extremely helpful, room was spotless and up to date. Continental breakfast and coffee were delicious .
- 5/5
Fantastic place! Very clean, kind and welcoming staff, great breakfast, and great location!
- 5/5
Great location within easy walking distance to Old Town and public transit; comfortable room; welcoming staff; FREE Parking!
- 5/5
We will definitely be back to stay here.
- 4/5
My room was clean but a bit dusty. However, it seems to be an HVAC or maybe old carpeting issue.
- 5/5
Was very happy with our stay. Super quiet place and very comfy. Free parking was awesome and a 15 min walk to tons of restaurants. The room was very clean. My only little nit pick was the pillows were a little thin. The Girlfriend and I plan on coming back again next year!
- 5/5
Conveniently located, pretty street, quiet comfortable rooms and nice common space.
- 5/5
I will definitely be back. 5 star for me. I wouldn’t hesitate to book.
- 5/5
Great room, everything updated, nice easy check in/out. Breakfast is definitely continental (sweet rolls, fruit, cereal, etc).
- 5/5
The Sono was welcoming, clean and very comfortable. It was easy to find and provided parking! We would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to friends.
- 5/5
Pristine cleanliness, street parking and enjoyed thew stay!
- 5/5
Comfortable and location. down the block from my daughter and grand daughter.
- 5/5
Beautiful building on quiet, tree lined street. Comfy beds and nice linens. Look forward to staying here again!
- 5/5
Let's talk rooms first. They're simple, clean, and comfortable—nothing over-the-top, but definitely a step up from your average hotel. The beds are cozy, the space is quiet, and everything feels fresh and well-kept. Just a heads-up: there's no elevator, so if you're hauling a big suitcase, you'll get a little workout. Now, breakfast, available from 8 am to 10 am, is continental, but thoughtfully prepared—think hard-boiled eggs, pastries, fruit, and good coffee. The shared kitchen and lounge area are a highlight, offering a bright, modern space perfect for relaxing or chatting with fellow guests. One of my favorite spots? The outdoor seating. It's the kind of place where you can sip tea, reflect, and feel like you're miles away from the hustle. The staff? Lovely. They're attentive without hovering, and genuinely helpful. Whether it's answering questions or ensuring breakfast is stocked, they have that warm, welcoming energy that makes a big difference. If you're looking for a peaceful, well-run place with a boutique feel and a great location, this one's worth bookmarking. Thank you for a wonderful time!
- 5/5
Very clean facility; manager Jose was very responsive and helpful; no in-room fridge but we were allowed space in the kitchen’s large fridge to store a few items; easy walk to bus and train and to restaurants.
- 5/5
Everything was seamless and such a great space. The staff was friendly and the permit parking was great! Breakfast was lovely as were the common and outdoor areas. Would definitely come back.
- 5/5
You also can't beat the location!! Surrounded by gorgeous brownstones--it feels like you are a part of the beautiful neighborhood. It's also extremely close to the brown el train and a few bus lines as well. One small thing was that I needed Q-tips and they don't provide any in the bathroom, which I usually expect as a typical hotel offering--but that's more of a suggestion than a critique. Thank you again for making my short stay at The Sono so memorable!
- 5/5
A unique experience very different from a typical hotel! The location is in a residential neighborhood between homes, so very different from your typical hotel. The ample free snacks and drinks were a great perk. The shared common kitchen/dining room/porch were beautiful. The bedroom itself was a little small, and only a queen bed -- and only stairs, no elevator -- but the bathroom/shower was large and lovely. The host was frendly and communicative. Free street parking is available, no $40/night that you might have to pay at other hotels. A great place overall!
- 5/5
Loved the shared kitchen access!
- 5/5
When we first arrived at the Sono Chicago, there was a plumbing issue in our room from the night before. With no other rooms available, we had to stay in a space that wasn’t ideal at first, although the manager Jose resolved the problem as quickly as he could. Throughout our stay, Jose went above and beyond to ensure our anniversary weekend wasn’t overshadowed by a rough start. His hospitality was truly exceptional; he responded to our late-night messages within minutes. In 2025, many people believe great customer service is a thing of the past—but it’s alive and well at the Sono Chicago. I give this hotel five stars, but I’d give Jose seven stars!
- 5/5
Excellent location. Beautiful property, extremely clean.
- 3/5
This is not a hotel more of a Bed and Breakfast which is fine except the room was tiny with no desk or place to sit and work. The room was very clean and check in easy however it was on the bottom floor with the communal dining room table located almost directly on top of the room so 630AM every day felt like people walking directly on top of your head. For $400 a night that was very disappointing. I would highly recommend avoiding staying in the two rooms on the bottom floor.
- 5/5
Beautiful property. Clean throughout. Comfortable bed. Helpful and friendly manager. Great communication prior to arrival. Will be back!
- 5/5
The Sono is in Old Town with lots of great places to shop and eat nearby. Can't recommend it highly enough!
- 5/5
Really Good Location in Old Town.
- 5/5
Quiet neighborhood just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Communicative hosts, comfortable rooms and plush beds, delicious continental breakfast, and terrific rooftop terrace with great views. We will definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Perfect location to explore the city. The staff was friendly, parking was convenient and the organic breakfast was appreciated.
- 5/5
This bed and breakfast was an absolutely breathtaking gem that surpassed every expectation we had, delivering an experience that went well beyond what the photographs could capture. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the stunning beauty of the place, which seemed to offer everything one could possibly desire in a cozy getaway. The owners were the epitome of hospitality—warm, welcoming, and genuinely sweet—always ready to lend a hand with anything we needed, whether it was local recommendations or small touches to make our stay more comfortable. Their attentive care made us feel truly pampered throughout our visit. The location was another delightful perk, perfectly situated just a stone’s throw from a wide array of dining options, giving us plenty of choices to explore nearby restaurants and cafes at our leisure. It was the kind of place that makes you want to return again and again.
- 5/5
King bed room was clean and spacious with a huge shower and a balcony to sit and read. The free parking was a bonus along with the continental breakfast. Because of the small setting, we were able to meet some really interesting people from much farther away than we were. We really had a great time.
- 5/5
Nice quiet building in one of the nicest parts of chicago
- 5/5
Was very warm and welcoming.. room was clean and updated… staff was friendly..! Had a great time…
- 5/5
Our stay at The Sono was great! We were only staying a night and booked a queen room, and they gave us a free upgrade to a king room since it was unoccupied. The room was fantastic & clean, the breakfast was delicious with lots of variety and the voucher for free street parking made this the best option for our stay. I would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Likely the best hotel experience we’ve had. Nice place in a good location. The breakfast was a great perk. Felt like we stumbled on a hidden gem spot.
- 5/5
The Sono Chicago was a dream! Staff & Owner were friendly, accommodating, and gave great advice for dining & entertainment. Our bed was comfortable, bathroom was luxurious, and the balcony was fun for morning coffee. There is a nice rooftop area with seating and fire tables where you can relax/socialize. Parking was convenient and FREE! I def recommend The Sono Chicago!
- 5/5
We absolutely loved staying here. Everything was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, and there were beverages and snacks available. Easy check in and out, easy parking, everything was smooth and wonderful.
- 5/5
We were warmly welcomed at the door and immediately made to feel like family! The Sono is an absolute MUST STAY for so many reasons—its incredible hospitality, impeccable cleanliness, and unbeatable location are just the beginning. Our experience was truly unforgettable, and we can’t wait to return!
- 5/5
It was very clean and tidy. When we needed new towels they were there. Halfway through our stay everything was deep cleaned. The owners were extremely nice and offered a wide variety for breakfast. Any questions we had were answered quickly and effortlessly. Our room was cozy and the upstairs roof patio had a view that was beyond breathtaking. The place is close to downtown and in a good area to go anywhere in Chicago.
- 5/5
A warm and welcoming beautiful place. The staff was outstanding; from carrying my heavy luggage up three flights to offering great places to eat to accommodating my arrival and departure. Highly recommend. With a spectacular view of the city the rooftop is not to be missed!
- 5/5
Fresh, friendly place in Old Town! Cleanand modern, quiet and central location, pleasant rooftop. Loved the continental breakfast. We were able to walk to our destinations.
- 5/5
Our first time at a true B & B. I cannot express how much we enjoyed our time at Sono! The friendliness & especially HELPFULNESS of Adie was terrific! We really enjoyed our time in the morning during breakfast with the other guests. We ARE coming back next time we are in Chicago!
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay at the Sono. Danni & Addie were super helpful. Thank you so much.
- 5/5
Every thing was clean and quite I felt safe area was nice
- 5/5
Amazing property!

- 5/5
Great location and hospitality!
- 5/5
The Sono is a terrific property and highly recommended. Rooms are lovely, the common areas are outstanding, we enjoyed hanging out with our traveling group along with a frig stocked with waters. Breakfast in the morning is a really nice feature. The only drawback is the location in a largely residential area. Yet it is an easy walk or Uber downtown. I would highly recommend the property and special thanks to Addie.
- 5/5
Three story walk-up row house, only a few rooms, full kitchen/living room where continental breakfast is served daily, or on back deck. Loved our balcony room, a spacious king. Clean and newly painted. Friendly helpful staff. Only issue could be the street parking - and you do need a car to get around. You’re in a residential neighborhood with a school across the street. Though we did walk to subway ten minutes away to get to Wrigley Field. Enjoyed our three night stay!
- 5/5
This a bed and breakfast. New construction in an otherwise historic neighborhood but it blends in nicely. No elevator so expect to go up and down stairs. Breakfast is not freshly cooked but is an attractive buffet available over 2 hours with cereal, warmed pastries, boiled eggs, cheese, yogurt, berries etc. Rooms large with good sized bathrooms, tall ceilings, quiet. Street parking seemed to be easily available with permit.
- 5/5
This was one of the best stays I have ever had. Great costomer service, breakfast, and comfort.
- 5/5
I would highly recommend a stay here. Beautiful all around and we will be back.
- 5/5
very nice host and not having to pay for parking was amazing, a bit away from downtown but worked
- 5/5
The Sono is our favorite place to stay when visiting Chicago. Adie and the staff do an amazing job of providing you with a comforting experience, right down to the wonderful continental breakfast selections. They are always flexible with check in availability, and of course the complimentary parking pass is a huge bonus. Lastly, the rooftop setting is absolutely beautiful! The Sono is highly recommended!

Somewhat unusual property in that is is really more like an Airbnb...bed, sheets, pillows all of highest quality and the property is very quiet. The house itself is very nice and the neighborhood is close to downtown. It would be nice to have a sofa or somewhere to sit in the room; mine had only a bed. Continental breakfast was OK...seemed like a bunch of stuff bought at the local Safeway, including some over-the-hill fruit, and left out for the guests.
- 5/5
It was great we stayed two nights, the breakfast was a nice add, and it's in walking distance of the zoo, so that was cool. The bed was comfortable and and they had a nice variety of sparkling water.
- 5/5
It was a fabulous stay! Adi the host was just delightful, caring and very respectful of the space. Breakfast was delicious. The common space was perfect and we enjoyed sitting on the patio also. The location to walk around the area was so easy in Chicago. The other house guests were also very easy to be with and all just got along well. We would love to come back and stay again. Thank you !
- 5/5
Cleanliness is impeccable and the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Highly recommended.

Great location, wonderful breakfast and Adie is super helpful!
- 5/5
Great place!
- 5/5
Super stay. Welcoming, clean, comfortable and fantastic location. Couldn't ask for anything to be any better.
- 5/5
Parking spot right in front is amazing. room 102, which is not our usual room, did have a bit of a musty smell in bathroom.
- 5/5
It was really great. Perfect distance from Zanies and Second City. The manager was great, the set up was well done, and very clean. All the things I was seeking for a weekend getaway with my fiancé at the pace of a bed and breakfast in Old Town District was here. Definitely would return for this experience!
- 5/5
It was lovely! Beautiful house. The bed was so comfortable. The room was small but very inviting. Besides we were gone almost the whole day and didn't need room for much more than a bed. I would visit again.
- 5/5
Loved this cute little place. It’s in a great neighborhood and the breakfast was a big plus. Wound love to come back!
- 5/5
Great place to stay right by everything shopping and food
- 3/5
I'm not quite sure how to review this property. It was nice, clean, the person I dealt with for check in was very gracious accommodating my late arrival but this is not a hotel. I would more appropriately categorize it as a very nice boarding house with limited parking not close to much. In the house like setting, it felt like sneaking to go down to the kitchen to get a water from the fridge and an apple from the counter basket. I'm pretty sure I will never stay at Sono again but that's not because it isn't a nice property for what it is.

Great staff, very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was great. Nice size room and the shower was great. Only recommendation is don’t stay in the basement room, you hear all the food steps (kitchen/dinning area over the room).
- 5/5
Beautiful home! Clean & comfortable. Adie & staff very hospitable and helpful. Accommodating, yet not intrusive, very respectful of privacy yet warm & welcoming. Breakfast is light, yet sufficient. We would definitely come back & stay. Free parking a definite plus in Chicago. Easy access to all areas of town.
- 5/5
Very nice place. Comfy and clean. Staff very nice. Would stay again!
- 5/5
Wonderful bed and breakfast - free parking and breakfast was a huge plus and the room was super nice. Will definitely be coming back!
- 5/5
It was a wonderful place to stay! Addie, the hostess, was amazing. So kind and helpful! We will definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Sono is a 5 minute walk from the Metro Brown Line and only 10 minutes from downtown via the Metro. Safe neighborhood. Rooms were a little cold and noisy but very clean and the small hotel had an excellent continental breakfast. The manager, Addie, was always very pleasant and helpful. We will stay there again and highly recommend the hotel to others.
- 5/5
leave even a loaded rig (which ours was, pending an extended road trip home). Rooms were well appointed, everything fresh and clean throughout the property with a huge kitchen/dining/sitting area, large rooms (mine had a balcony), fully updated bathroom, and reliable fast wifi. Bed was huge and comfy, and coffee scent filled the place early so I took advantage of the living room to get some work done before continental breakfast was served. But this was the highlight, a wide spread of croissants, muffins, toasts, jams, spreads, hard boiled eggs, breakfast meats, yogurts, fresh berries, granolas, oatmeal and cereal makings were plentiful, along with coffee, tea and six different kinds of milk, plus juice. The self-serve meal is curated by the same terrific staffer, who replenishes the foodstuffs and is a quiet presence to permit the congenial vibe of fellow travelers sharing space and comparing their planned activities in the Windy City. A better place, for a competitive price, with 'home away from home' vibes, one cannot find.
- 5/5
A hidden gem that I don’t want others to know about. 😁❤️
- 5/5
Outstanding! Our host was very gracious and went above and beyond! Accommodations were wonderful and the neighborhood is gorgeous! We’ll be back!

Perfect. What else to say?
- 5/5

- 5/5
We will be back for sure.
- 5/5
Great, lovely place, very comfortable. The breakfast is fantastic, don't miss it! Good location too. Parking can get hard to find if you have a larger car, so recommend arriving earlier in the day.
- 5/5
beautiful room with awesome views, great continental breakfast, free on street parking, easy to uber into city for exploration and shopping.
- 5/5

- 5/5
The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They were in communication with us before we even got there which was extremely helpful since we ended up needing a late checkin due to flight delays. The breakfast was delicious and convenient. It’s a homey feel in a bustling city, I definitely would stay here again!

Hospitable staff, nice breakfast and great views

We had a great time. We had some special requests regarding storing our luggage for 1-2 hours before/after check out and were very accommodating. Great stay
- 5/5
The host was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area!
- 5/5
This had to be the quietest stay I’ve ever had in Chicago. I absolutely loved the room and building. What a treasure. I will most certainly be back.
- 5/5
It's very clean and makes me like home!!
- 5/5
Very nice B&B in Olde town. A few walkable blocks from the brown line train, a few more from the red line. Very nice, helpful staff. Comfortable room. Nice Continental breakfast with good, strong(!) coffee. The only problem I ran into was noise a couple of brief times when other guests(?) were watching a TV or laughing (in there hallway) rather loudly. Probably an issue anywhere in a city. Did not appear to be a good choice for anyone with mobility impairments. If that's not an issue for you, I would recommend them.
- 5/5
Excellent location and friendly service.
- 5/5
Great place to stay. Very accommodating. Easily exceeded our expectations.
