Best Western Plus Marina Shores Hotel

Parking was a challenge - the lost was full and I ended up having to park in a spot that was not for public use.

I loved how close it was to the beach as well as some places to grab a quick bite to eat and our sweet treat after plus there were a couple of stores near by to grab our last minute essentials, the staff was amazing they were very friendly and polite and professional so for the front desk staff I give them a 10/10 Over all it was fair, had to wait an hour after check in time to get our second room thank goodness our first room was ready so we just waited in there ,,the breakfast wasn’t great you would be better off going next door to Mc Donalds but it’s free so I guess there’s that , our room wouldn’t get cold only the living room area would but not the bedroom so we had to get a fan , it wasn’t completely cleaned inside the tub there was build up where the jets were and some hairs , the couches in the living room area had some kind of white stain that I could only imagine what from and when we had moved the bed to find our daughters bottle she had dropped there was a lot of crumbs underneath as well as some trash wrappers

The breakfast was good. Waffles, eggs, sausage, bagels and juice. Bed was comfortable enough. Facility was clean. No room cleaner came until. Day 3 of stay. Constant noise in the walkway outside room. The hotel is right on Pacific Coast Highway. Very noisy all the time.Charging $15 per nite for parking. The place is dated. A kitchenette/counter in the room, but not one plate, utensil or cup was provided.

Overall good hotel with very helpful staff. However, needs a major renovation as the structure and rooms are quite old and pictures might not be really reflecting that.

Had decent breakfast daily. Checkin staff were courteous. No microwave in room which was very inconvenient and strange. The room was not very clean. We had someone vacuum under the bed twice and still had garbage under the beds. Paying to park when you are paying to stay at the hotel is a little greedy. Wouldn't stay here again.

Beautiful place to stay

As I was going to bed I found what I will identify as a bedbug on the sheet. They could not change our room and after tearing the sheets apart I didn't see any other bugs so we stayed. I expected some concern/response from the hotel manager but no one contacted me about the bug on the sheet. They were totally disconnected from any problem. When I called them to discuss my bill they told me they don't have anything to do with compensation since Hotels.com booked the reservation. Really? The next time anything like this happens I will leave the hotel immediately, obviously. I expected more from a Best Western. And don't think Hotel.com gets any points here, either. They weren't any help. Hotels.com "negotiated" a minimal amount to a virtual card without acknowledging any issue. I told them to keep it. Google says I should have been refunded everything. All I wanted was an apology acknowledging their responsibility and something for this sour note on our vacation.

Pictures on hotels.com were of the other best western in town- it was not on the beach. Room was okay. It faced a very busy loud street with ill fitting doors- basically it was like a motel from the past. Needs updating!

Our go to hotel for over 10 years. We love our 1 bedroom suite. Check in is always quick & efficient. The staff is wonderful. Greets with a smile and ready to help. Free good breakfast is appreciated to start our day. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Doheny Beach and of course the Harbor which is undergoing major renovations. A few restaurants and businesses are open though. Coffee Importers moved and are open. Enjoy your stay!

The weekend stay was lovely. I brought my mom here for a graduation party and to visit family for Mother's Day . It was very pleasant. The hotel is very clean and the staff was amazing. Everyone was very friendly from staff to guests. I didn’t realize it’s dog friendly hotel but you’d never guess. It was very clean and no pet smells. My room we had a double queen was ok. Very clean but why the bathroom was so small. Toilet was cramped by the sink & hard to flush. The shower was hard to get in to. Very high yet it had handicap bars. My 82 year old mom could no way get in safely. Kind of strange bathroom. I loved the lotions and soaps offered but strangely hooked to the walls. Had a tissue box but no tissue. The towels were super soft. I had issues with the tv I guess someone programmed it to Spanish and for a blind person. I just unplugged the streaming box snd rebooted it myself. Ok, now a bad experience that took place on Saturday night. The guests Nextdoor to my room were obviously drunk and loud as hell. Banging on the door to get in to their room on speaker phone and yelling. I called downstairs I guess after midnight to tell them someone was locked out. The young lady at the desk said she’d come up. Obviously not quickly. I heard a loud man ask them are you locked out. Between all the giggling and banging I guess the guy gave up on them. It was quiet for a bit 20-30 minutes and it started again. I heard someone open their room and yelled at them!

The room was very large and it was in a good area for walking and convenience. We were only there for one night. The whole place needed some updating. It was clean.

Room was clean and having a two-room suite was a plus. The balcony with a single chair only provides a view of trees--you cannot see the ocean from the hotel but Doheny State Beach is only a block away.

Despite the fact that the front desk staff was friendly, the rooms weren't cleaned, we didn't get fresh towels, there wasn't enough parking for all of the guests, nor seating capacity at the teeny pool. It was discouraging.

Noisy

The hotel is outdated. Our bathroom floor was dirty with hair and medication on the floor. Staff came to clean. Our room door was loose and let in so much air and light and looked like someone could break it down. The loose door made the living room very noisy. Unfortunately, we didn’t notice this until we had already unpacked and getting ready for bed. Will never stay here again. I’m disappointed in Best Western.

Very good location, central to a great area of Dana Point. The rooms were spacious (2 bedroom king suite with balcony). Not “modern” per se, but very clean and just felt very homey.

In town for a family wedding. Great location & comfortable room. The fresh, abundant Complimentary Breakfast was the best I’ve enjoyed in years! Well done BW Marina Shores!

Staff are friendly and professional. If I may suggest… please put a trash can in the room ( only recycle bin is found in the bedroom). The only trash can is in the bathroom. We will consider this hotel again if we are in the area.

Paid for a 2 queen room and signed in with the mobile app. Picked up our keys around 930 pm, went to the room only to discover only one bed. Spoke to the gentleman at the front desk and he informed me that the manager who was on duty earlier in the day took it upon herself to switch us to a 1 king room without notifying us of course. So there was that. Horrible sleep but hey stuff happens. Got up in the morning to shower and get ready for the day - black mold in the shower. And not just in a random crack, this was an infestation. At that point I felt I had to ask for some kind of accommodation to be made. Three hours of sleep and no shower? I was advised that the manager, Maya, was the only person who could make any decisions regarding credits, etc but that she wouldn’t be in for another couple hours. Needless to say, we were ready to leave so I left my information so she could call or text me as soon as she arrived, which was supposed to be at 1030am. 1130 rolls around and still crickets. I finally texted the number I used for check in, and she finally responds. She initially offered FREE PARKING!! And this was after I sent her the photos of the mold. Yeah. I wasn’t pleased. It was only after I explained my plan to post reviews to multiple sites that she offered 50% off the stay, which would still have to be done via expedia. Just couldn’t make it easy. Maya was not easy to deal with and really wasn’t interested in making this right. Do better with your management choices BW

Room clean, bed & pillows very nice, not great but nice. The advertised balcony was a joke! One chair for a room that sleep 3-4 people. PARKING FEE was a surprise not mentioned on the site i booked the reservation.

The room was clean but could have used some upgrades like a new toilet because it had mold in the inside of the bowl and the tube needed to be updated because the rings in it needed to be replaced, the gym was not available for use, but the staff was very friendly!

Convenient parking. Hot breakfast. Very clean and comfortable room. We didn't use the pool but it looked like there had been a lot of wind recently. There were leaves in the pool. Lots of places to eat within walking distance. My son was staying down the street at the Hilton Garden Inn and I think our room was much nicer than theirs.

The only area for improvement was the breakfast. The scrambled eggs were overrun with water, the turkey sausage was somewhat chewy, and the potatoes lacked freshness. Additionally, pastries were not offered, and the bread and bagels had visible mold. The selection of cereals was also limited. Due to the quality of the food, I chose to dine at RJ Cafe nearby.

Room was clean and amenities were nice. Coffee maker in room always a plus. Breakfast was nicely done with a good combination of hot and cold. Make your own waffles was nice. Parking was tight and not free, unfortunately. Overall nice location and a good stay for 2 nights.

The bathroom was pretty dirty and mold was noted in the bathroom. The room floor was gross so we felt like we needed to wear shoes when walking on it. I understand some rooms are nicer or renovated but ours really needs the update. However, the access to the beach and location to Dana Point were great as well as the price.

The room at the Best Western, Dana Point PCH was clean and a good size with 2 queen beds! The front desk clerk , named Galvinder was very accommodating with a couple requests! The included breakfast buffet was delicious ! Thank you for a comfortable stay!

I had a terrible experience! There was a roach in our room and it is a battle to get your money back off the Expedia app, I’m still waiting on a refund especially since we never stayed one night!!! I recommend booking through the actual hotel website, but we will never be back because of the roaches!

Reserved a king suite,upon arrival at check-in the clerk did not mention King suite was not available until we open the door to our room and saw there was two queen beds no microwave no mini fridge. Immediately informed clerk at checkin she then stated no King suites available.We had to throw out our dinner. No microwave to warm it no mini fridge to preserve it. Will not return.

And then one of the girls working the night shift was extremely rude! We won’t visit there again wasn’t for us.

You have easy on and off to the 5 freeway. 3 luggage carts. Plenty of parking. There is a bathroom lobby on the second floor. They are getting a brand new gym. Excellent snack center. Easy walkable hotel in Dana Point!

Although the property is a bit “tired”, the hotel is located close to a holiday party I was attending. Not wanting to drive home to Riverside County late at night, this was one of few Dana Point options available for my last minute reservation. Although nothing to write home about, the bed was comfortable, and the full-breakfast a nice surprise!

The room smelled really bad. The cleaning service did not even make the bed. Elevator was extremely slow. Parking spaces very small and uncomfortable to navigate.

Good location, near the Rows. Lots of restaurants! Friendly staff. The room is old. You can hear the walking sound, water flowing sound above your roof. The breakfast is only editable. Nothing standing out. But hey free breakfast, free parking, what else do you need?

We stayed at the property with our small dog for a short get away Thanksgiving weekend from Friday to Sunday. We were extremely impressed by this property and its management. It is clearly a priority to keep this hotel well-maintained, which was apparent by the constant presence of service workers tending to the grounds and facility. Everything about the property was excellent, from the friendly and helpful staff, pet-friendliness, secure parking facility, and a clean suite with well-maintained amenities. What truly stood out is its convenience, as it's just across the street from a few local as well as chain restaurants. Overall, this was a five-star experience, and we will definitely choose to stay here again.

It was easy to find & park car . Receptionist told me I would be charged $25 for parking. I told her I am Diamond level with Best Western . She said because I booked thru 3rd party that didn’t count. So I missed out on free parking & room upgrade apparently. The room is very outdated & smells old & musty My room is facing the back of the hotel so literally no view . Wow Expedia . I expected better. Luckily I am only here for one night & never again.

We then got another room. This room had terrible cigarette odor like someone smoked a pack a day in there. We went back down and got a refund and went to another hotel.

The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and separate seating room. It was very dark and whilst it was lovely to have a balcony, there was only one chair on it and it overlooked the busy road so there was constant traffic noise. The website seemed to indicate that there was a microwave in the room but there was not. The room types on the website are confusing as so many rooms seemed to be called the same thing. The pool area was ok but no shade available and only one subbed. Breakfast was ok but the quality could be better. Overall our stay was fine, but the hotel could do with some updating - it’s tired.

Good location. Small room with uncomfortable beds. Walking through the hotel, it does not feel or smell clean. The floors have stained carpet and the smell of smoke was strong. Breakfast was okay but not great. The breakfast area is way too small and it was hard to find a table for 4 people. I feel like we paid way too much for these compromises.

Hotel was nice and in a good area for getting to beach, marina, restaurants and bars. We were here for a wedding which was about 7 mins drive away. Hotel breakfast had good selection, would be nice to have proper cutlery, plates etc rather than plastic & paper. Suite was large and had loads of space. Only negative would be the room was getting dated and the drapes were ripped. The pool is very small with only one sunbed and some chairs. Other than that the staff were very nice and helpful.

I had a wonderful stay! The staff were incredibly friendly, the hotel was spotless, and the breakfast was amazing. I definitely plan to return. My only minor issue was that housekeeping inquired about our checkout progress with 40 minutes left. We were already packing and preparing to leave, but it did make us feel a little rushed at the end.

I stay at this hotel often when I’m in the area. The hotel is clean and the staff is always very friendly!

The night employee was no help on how to work the jet tub and seemed to be high on something because he had slurred speech and kept repeating the same thing when I asked him questions. The hotel stunk of weed and especially in my room it smelled like weed.

Beds were super comfortable. The hotel was an easy walk to the Dana Point Harbor, which was the reason we picked this hotel.

Great location. Very average hotel. I guess you get what you pay for the manager at the front desk was very confused because of exhaustion due to one hours. He kept giving different parties the wrong keys.

Check in person was efficient, but not friendly or welcoming. You have to park in between support posts, so it was a little tricky. The room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable. There were stains on the loveseat. We had a balcony, but it overlooked a busy street. Overall the stay was fine, and worked for our purpose of going whale watching from Dana Point.

We arrived a couple of hours earlier. The male staff member, Mike, helped us with an early check-in. After I requested to change to a non-roadside room for quietness, he immediately accommodated my request. My stay was enjoyable.

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay. The towels were changed every day and the trash taken away, but the beds weren’t made up or any cleaning done as far as I could see. You have to pay for parking which we didn’t know about.

This is a very nice hotel. Clean and friendly. The only issue is that the bathtub is very high and very unsafe!

Hotel only has pillows with feathers so had to bring my own pillows due to allergies to feathers. The room and bed smelled like an animal has went to the bathroom on right at the head of the bed. Requested for a quiet room but ended up on the noisy side of the building right by a main highway.

We checked out the next day due to family emergency and we got charged for having to leave early even though I am pretty sure they had no problem renting the room ,the parking at this hotel is a nightmare . Very pretty on the outside but we will not stay here again way to much money for what you get.

This hotel is old and not very well kept up. It is dirty, the bathroom had mold on the ceiling and the overall cleanliness of the room was sub par.

Since it is a pet friendly hotel. Make sure rooms are sprayed for fleas. Felt like I had to itch a lot.

We turned the air conditioner off because it blew out smelly, dingy air. I thought I had smelled urine, but could have been from the air conditioner? I luckily packed a large garbage bag and used it as a cover to the ottoman that was gross and stained before daring to put luggage on it. The couch and side chair was also stained. We loved the location and the staff were great, but I wouldn't stay there again. The place needs a major overhaul. Also I never saw anyone actually in the pool... the water was freezing cold.

Location of walking distance from the beach is perfect! The staff was friendly. Is was clean.

This Best Western was really nice I gave it four stars only because the bathroom was dangerous. It’s is convenient to get to, parking was super easy, and the staff was really nice. The bathroom was pretty to look at but when you were on the toilet the toilet paper roll was in your side. The bath tub has a step to get into the nice jacuzzi tub it was getting out of the shower that was a little scary. Hopefully the other room have a better set up. I would still stay here again it was a wonderful weekend

I went to the room and it smelled like urine and the pool had sand and dirt at the bottom and bugs so I couldn’t even stay and checked out immediately. The staff was nice and refunded my money as they were aware of the problems.

Overall, no major complaints.

Nice hotel in a nice area. We selpt well and the breakfast was good. Nothing special but satisfying. Our issues were with the cleanliness of the room. Carpet was a bit old and dirty and there was a musky smell. With that being said, it served it's purpose and we enjoyed our weekend. We would stay here again.

The front desk manager was rude and unprofessional. It seemed as though guest service was on the back burner for her and I'm not sure why. The hotel charges an early check in fee of $50 even if you're only an hour early and the room is ready. This is the first time I've ever paid an early check in fee for a room that was ready. On the brighter side, the room was comfortable and extremely clean. Housekeeping somewhat made up for the professionalism lacking at the front desk. The hotel is very close to the beach which is great.

We had an issue at check-in that held us up for about 30 minutes. We were scheduled to arrive on July 17 and then check out on July 18 and coming back on July 23 and staying until July 25. When we arrived, the girl at the front desk told us that the July 17 date had been changed to July 16 and we were no-shows. I told her we never changed anything. We were not in town on July 16. We then called hotels.com and they confirmed that our reservation was in fact for July 17 but it took quite a long time for them to work it out which we kind of thought was upsetting. if you had another room available and I’m showing you a confirmed reservation receipt just give us the room and that’s it, but it seemed to take a very long time And we had someone waiting for us that had given us a ride. So we weren’t happy about that. And we had a reservation for five days later and we’ve stayed at this hotel several times when coming to visit our son.

The property looks run down, dirty, and smelled awful!!! Parking are was dirty as well.

Decent insulation from the noise of PCH but I was able to occasionally hear my neighbor laughing. The breakfast was OK but the coffee served was awful tasting.

It’s close to the beach and restaurants.

I liked the comfy bed and the nice breakfast !! The room was a little narrow but was comfortable and nice ! What was most disappointing was there was no hot tub Just a small pool that was all sandy on the bottom ! Also some upgrading is needed on carpeting pretty shabby But the price was unbelievably affordable !! 411$ for two nights The 15$ a night parking was a little annoying ! No valet !!

Needs Improvement: Could not get add to the Best Western rewards program. Front desk was too busy to give me a checkout receipt told me it will be mail to you (not what I wanted or needed at the time)

Location was great. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Parking is a nightmare with small tight spots. The pool was tiny. The staff at check in and the night staff were nice. You have to pay $15 a day for parking. We checked out a day early to visit another location and the person behind the desk was very rude stating “you will not get a refund or receipt!” when I didn’t even ask for a refund. We won’t be coming back next time we’re in this area.

Overall, the hotel was a really great value compared to similar hotels along the PCH. The room did not have a microwave but they did have one available downstairs in the breakfast area. A full breakfast included in the cost of the room was a great benefit as well.

Liked the room. Everything went just fine. A lot of kids at breakfast. Some under control and great. Some were not.

Not sure I would pick a best western again if I want a room with a functioning hot tub. The staff was very nice though.

The room was nice with a big jetted tub and a tv in the bathroom. The breakfast wasn’t great, though. A big plus was free charging of the Tesla we rented but they did charge $15 per day to park.

This place is real close(Across the street) to Dana Point and the state park. Clean Friendly place with warm pool. Also included is Breakfast. Big Room and large Jacuzzi.

Worked great for a night. Close to everything from beach, to restaurants to coffee shops. Hotel was clean and easy check in and out.

The customer service and staff were terrific. The bathrooms need to be renovated. We stayed in two different rooms. One standard room and then the other half of our trip was it a suite. Both bathrooms had very small and low toilets. The hotel is right off of a main road and very noisy. To get to the beach, we had to cross a busy street. So I would say it was about an eight minute walk to the beach. The free morning breakfast is good.

Loved how it was so close to everything! Staff were exceptional, the breakfasts we nice. Parking could be a bit awkward.

Would not stay again.

The air conditioning went out in one of the rooms we had booked but the staff was very accommodating and within 20 minutes had us moved into a different room. Mechanical issues happen from time to time and they reacted were well.

I’m currently on pilgrimage to all 21 missions with the Church and this dusty pilgrim needed a break from sleeping in my car! I was allowed a VERY early check in and I am eternally grateful. ❤️

Staff were fantastic. We arrived very weary and they help us sort out some changes to rooms as we had an extra person in our group. Rooms clean and beds super comfortable.

It was nice, great location, near the beach and many food places. Don't like that the rooms don't have microwaves but other than that everything was fine

Was a great trip with my husband and our dog. Right across the street from the state beach. Staff was great, breakfast was good.

Initially no bathmat was provided. A large clump of hair from the last guest was on the bathroom floor. Extra cleaners were sent in but there were still foreign hairs on the wall inside the shower after they finished. No pen at the desk. Interior of the elevator is shabby. Floor is peeling. Asked at the front desk for directions to the park across the street. He gave directions to a different park!

Location. Noisy. Non smoking and smelled like smoke on our floor at our end.

Great quick stay. No old beach property smell or stickiness in rooms.

It isn’t at the Marina but it is close and convenient and the free trolly runs close.
