The hotel is praised for its excellent location in Union Square, with easy access to subway lines, restaurants, and bars. The staff is consistently described as friendly, helpful, and accommodating. However, many guests express disappointment that the hotel is undergoing renovations, resulting in the closure of the dining room, rooftop bar, and lobby. Some guests also mention minor issues with the rooms, such as difficulty with light switches and closet doors.

The hotel is newly renovated and is beautiful - including the restaurants, bars, and lounges. The rooms also were spacious and clean. The gym amenities were pretty good. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, there were a couple that were less vibrant, but I assume that's just individual personality. Everyone was still very professional and helpful. The location is also very great.

Our room was HUGE- 2 queen beds. A couch, and an armchair, as well as a bench at the foot of the bed. Staff were great, rooms quiet and a fabulous view south to WTC.

The property is very beautifully renovated - The rooms are on the larger side for NYC so I loved how big my room was. Temperature of the rooms were very pleasant. Room service breakfast and coffee was amazing. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. The manager and the doormen were extremely kind and accommodating. The second floor bar is worth visiting even if you aren't staying there bc it is stunning. I had called in advance to ensure that the property had valet parking. However, when I arrived in a Cadillac Escalade (NOT extended version) they told me the car was 'oversized' and could not be valeted - I stay in the city frequently over the last 12 years with this exact vehicle model and have NEVER been told by a hotel that they could not park it and that I am just responsible for solving that problem. They did offer to pay for the garage I found but it was my responsibility to find and go park the car. So as a female traveling alone in Manhattan I did not appreciate being put in that position because I only stay at hotels with valet specifically out as a safety precaution. Unfortunately, the woman at the front desk was extremely rude as well and had the attitude that I was inconveniencing her with needing to check in and inquiring about the parking issue. They did graciously allow me to keep the car out front while I shopped around the morning I was leaving. Unfortunately, no spa :(

We enjoyed everything about the property! This ideal location had great restaurants and shopping nearby. I highly recommend the Ocean restaurant for upscale dining (kid-friendly), and one of the largest Barnes & Noble locations is right around the corner next to a delicious chocolate shop with crepes and milkshakes. Plus the Seahorse restaurant was conveniently located inside the hotel and room service was excellent. We ordered breakfast daily! The staff were very attentive and extremely polite! The front desk, doormen, and concierge team. Thanks for all your help, Chloe! And I have to mention how well kept the rooms were during our stay. The cleaning staff went above and beyond to accommodate us with a daily turn down service, and fresh linens. We never felt rushed to leave our suite but we always returned to a clean, comfortable room. We were very impressed! Nothing at all. We can’t wait to return!

The hotel is beautiful. Great location for us & close to the northern NYU dorms. The hotel room was spacious with a comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom, stocked mini bar, & water refill station on each floor. The staff was congenial, helpful & apologetic, but.... Don't be in a rush to go anywhere, if you choose to stay here....or plan to add an extra 30 minutes to your schedule to account for elevators out of service, restaurant service slow, and check in line all adding unexpected delays. (1) The elevators (or lifts) had technical trouble for our entire 3 day stay. We walked down the 14 flights of stairs three times after waiting over 10 minutes for the elevator on the 14th floor. Thankfully, we are able bodied, but we were on a schedule, and we didn't have time to wait around for the elevator - something you expect to work. They offered 10,000 Marriott Bonvoy points initially as compensation, then increased that to 20,000 points, BUT.... when we went to ask about the point compensation, they only mentioned the 10,000 points. We now have to call to sort that out - frustrating! (2) The check in line is ambiguous, so stake your claim in line & watch out for people walking up to the desk. The staff was very hospitable after this frustration, however. If they offer you free things - take them for the inconvenience you don't know is coming. (3) Restaurant service was slow & inattentive, but the food was delicious. The destination credit was not automatically added to our room, so we paid $92 for breakfast for 3 people instead of having $70 credited (net $22 out of pocket), which we have to call to figure that out too. The frustration & inconvenience outweigh the location. Choose the Moxy instead!!

Friendly staff, good size rooms, great location This has nothing to do with the W Hotel and more to do with Booking.com. It is very misleading when the reservation is a non cancellation room. Booking.com touts its price match guarantee, yet when I called them out on it, the price was not honored for the exact same room type and dates. Furthermore, DO NOT BOOK WITH BOOKING.COM if you are a Marriott Bonvoy member. They will not give you points for the room since the reservation was made through a 3rd party. No where in the reservation does Booking.com state that. I am very disappointed in this service.

The cleaning staff on the 18th floor. They were really pleasant and accommodating. They did a great job. The location met our objectives as well. We stayed at the W Union Square in 2013, while accompanying our daughter who was looking at universities. What I remember from then were large art deco rooms with great amenities, and was a great place to stay- this was pre-Marriott days Things were a lot different this time; the staff repeatedly told us there had been substantial renovations since then ; this was quite apparent. Differences this time : 1) Room was smaller 2) No furniture with drawers ! 3) Niight stands were off shaped thing with no drawers, but with difficult to use electronics outlets on the side. 4) Not enough outlets to plug and charge devices. 5) Lighting controls were all black and difficult to use. 5) HVAC when set to 65 degrees seemed more like 74. 6) The bell man proudly showed us a karaf whereby we can go down the hall to get fresh water : basically, a flemsy glass things where a single glass be fitted into the mouth. Two nights into our stay, a got up at night to put my phone in silent mode, and ended up bumping my phone in to it; causing the karaf to shatter : broken glass everywhere, jagged edges pointing straight up - I could have been seriously injured. They could not of just put a few plastic water bottles each days ?7) only 1 pin with five smaller pieces of paper in the note pad. 8) poor water preassure in shower. 9) General lack of other things like magazines, shower caps, etc. 10) Restaurant closed for renovations- had been we were told for months. 11) lack of umbrellas when rained. I cloud go one.

I liked the bed Cold showers every night, the entire space was unavailable except the front foyer, gym, and your room, due to a licensing issue that they didn’t tell you about until after your booking confirmation/payment. When booking it says you can request a bathtub, then onsite they said they only have one room and they put me in it, but it was a wheelchair accessible room which I felt really weird about, so I moved, and the window was literally blocked by a huge piece of the building that they can’t move, so indefinitely blocked. They said it was an “upgrade” it was literally half the size, and I originally booked a more expensive/larger room.. Super weird stay, and for that price point, especially the cold showers for a week, unacceptable. The manager told me the city’s hot water tank is low.. huh!??They gave me a $200 gift card.. rooms are like 400-600/night? Won’t be back

I had such a wonderful experience at the W Hotel in Union Square! I chose this hotel because it was so close to my daughter’s dorm, and I’m so glad I did. After trying out a few different places during my visits, I can honestly say this was the best! I felt right at home and so comfortable. The room was spotlessly clean, and I was happy to find no unpleasant odors on the carpet. Plus, the mattress and bedding were so cozy, perfect for someone like me who deals with back pain. Overall, it was a fantastic stay!

The suite we stayed in most of the time was very nice and roomy. We were sad to have to move to a smaller room at the end of our stay since we decided to stay longer than we originally planned. When we arrived after a flight delay and rough time getting to the hotel, the manager was very graceful in upgrading my original room to the suite which we were very thankful and appreciative of. The drawer with built in fridge was very nice and shower was spacious. I loved the table with vanity mirror aside from the double sink for sitting to do makeup. The view from the bedroom was exquisite and we could see Empire State Building which we loved. The two tvs was very nice and fitness center was great too. They even accommodated with a microwave and tea bags when I had a cold. I asked for extra fluffy pillows which were great too. The popcorn is a little expensive and couches didn’t really have a back part to lay against. When we moved to the spectacular room the door didn’t really lock when closed and fridge didn’t get very cold but it was ok for one night. They do have pastries every morning which is great. I’d just only stay somewhere different if I was wanting a full breakfast but maybe they are working on it since I know they are under kitchen renovations. I would definitely stay here again if they are welcome to it :) I think it’s a very safe and convenient hotel, security opens the doors for you and stands by the elevators too so it feels very protected. Everything is close too

Ruined our Christmas booking at the W! Did not know they were going through renovations until after I booked the room as I got an email stating there’s no access to any of the hotel amenities. This was not advertised on Expedia’s website however no refunds was advertised in plain site. Should not have to pay full price for my stay. Spoke to hotel staff was told me to contact Expedia and not their responsibility, called Expedia was told someone will call me back to reimburse. Still no call back. I recommend Expedia advertise in plain site if a hotel is having renovations with no food or drinks and no access to restaurant, lounge, room service etc. This way people don’t feel scammed into booking at a place with no refunds after booking.

Even better than you could imagine. Service was wonderful. Example- I had just checked out with an early flight to jfk. It was 6:15am, coffee service starts at 6:30 , while sad to hear the news I understood. Stepped outside and ordered my Uber. The gentleman that sets up coffee showed up just as I stepped outside, the front desk concierge let him know I needed a cuppa coffee. He ran to the back and got me a cup of coffee before my Uber driver arrived. I had a delicious hot coffee for the hour long trip to JFK. Those little details and extra efforts really make this hotel something spectacular.

Great NY find. Usually stay closer lot Midtown but changed to Union Square and loved it! Our new go to spot. Right on subway line, next to Gramercy Park area, safe with fun restaurants and bars within blocks. Still able to walk to Broadway show. Couldn't figure out a certain light switch to turn the upper decorative lights out and between 3 of us still had to call desk. Only issue.

Great location, well-appointed rooms. Excellent service and staff. Would give 5 stars except the hotel is undergoing a renovation so there's no entry lobby per say and the hotel bar/restaurant was closed. A few design issues in the newly renovated rooms...closet doors are too close to entry door, pretty tight to maneuver. The safe inside the closet takes up too much space so not enough room to hang clothes. The light switches are hard to see if you are over 50. Even the phone is hard to read for what number to push for front desk, etc. Lighting in bathroom could be improved for make-up mirror. Shower didn't drain well. Complementary robes are a bit scratchy (I'm nit picking but for 5 stars that's what you expect). Positives were free filtered water right outside our door, complementary pastries where delicious and the staff was super friendly and responsive.

The main issue is that it was under construction. Or I should say renovation. Will probably be very nice when it is completed but in the meantime, there was no real lobby and staff was minimal. My own personal issues deal with Accessible beds due to the fact, and then a wheelchair and the beds were not accessible. Also, there was only one working elevator when we were there which left to a lot of delays.

W New York - Union Square saved our vacations. When we were looking for a good place to stay, it was super easy to make the reservation and since we got here until we left the service has been top notch: very friendly and efficient. The rooms are great. There’s construction going on, so don’t stay here if you mind a little noise during the week. It wasn’t a big deal for us and all of the other aspects were so great, that this was great value for our money.

This property was under construction and we were misled. Expedia did not warn us that this hotel was under MAJOR construction and had no lobby or food services. Expedia also sold a room with two double beds as “perfect for a family of four”. We splurged for a fun family trip and ended up feeling ripped off. Don’t use Expedia.

I chose this hotel based on location. It was only 2 blocks from an event that I was attending. I arrived in NY earlier than planned and stopped by the hotel to see if I could drop off my bag. My check-in time was 4pm and I arrived at 11am. I was given a room that was available immediately and a little less expensive. I was very happy to take the room, I didnt care about it not having a good view. The room was on the 7th floor, quiet and very clean. A renovation was taking place while I was there, but it didnt cause any issues for me. I was very pleased with the staff and the convenience of the location. Super easy to walk virtually anywhere you want to see all attractions in Manhattan. I'd have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Manhattan.

What I wasn’t happy about is the outrageous valet parking price. I know it’s NYC but dang! Also, I wasn’t pleased that the robe hanging in the bathroom was dirty. It looked like someone with makeup wiped their hands on it. The stain was obvious so it made me wonder about the cleanliness of the rest of the room. The ice machine was also broken on my floor. I called downstairs and they said they can’t send anyone to my room with ice because they were by the only ones there. I think the hotel is being renovated as the lobby looked small. Overall the stay was ok but I guess I expected more from a W hotel.

The property is being renovated and I was notified multiple times that this was happening. I chose to take my chances because I wanted this location. We never noticed any noise . We did have to ask for a coffeemaker and refrigerator, but both were brought to our room almost immediately. The furnishings and rooms are tired, but that’s why the place is being renovated. I think the staff is trying extra hard because of it. The bed was Heaven. I’m so glad I made the decision to stay there.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Everyone is incredibly kind. The hotel staff all referred to us by name over the 12 days we were there, which is such a kind gesture it really makes you feel at home. The housekeeping staff was incredibly kind and gracious. I mentioned that my husband was working from the room, so they left towels and toiletries in a bag by the door so as not to disturb him. Every time I saw the housekeeper in the hall, she asked if we needed anything else and was wonderful about any requests. I used the business center several times for work while I was there. The printer was out of ink and stapler was out of staples. I let the front desk know and they had replaced the ink and staples for me within 5 minutes! Every time I went in there for the rest of my stay, everything was perfect. I really cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!
