Bluestem Hotel Torrance Los Angeles, an Ascend Collection Hotel

I booked a solo birthday getaway stay here in late May, and glad I did. It was my 4th stay since 2021 and I have yet to be disappointed. The high ceilings made my room feel more spacious. It has clean and contemporary decor, well maintained overall, and no parking fee! Parking is gated as well so it felt secure as a solo female traveler. It’s probably my 4th time staying here since 2021 and it probably won’t be my last.

Very convenient location with free gated parking which offered a more secure stay. Rooms renovated - very fresh and roomy. Staff very helpful especially Miguel. Walking distance from strip malls and Wilson Park where there is an amazing farmers market on Saturday and Tuesday. Our 3rd stay there and will not be the last. Highly recommended

The property was very well laid out in the common areas were very lovely and inviting. The free coffee was great. The disc clerk was very friendly and check me in without any problems. I just really enjoyed my stay there Nothing really.

This establishment was in a good area in Southbay to get you anywhere in the LA area. The place was clean and spacious. You could hear the footsteps of the people above us all night and day. Not sure if they were walking a marathon or what... Also no breakfast was a let down. Some fruit and beverage would have helped while we were on the run.

Front desk clerk was nice, friendly and explained everything well. Appreciated the parking was behind a gate but the spaces were very small. Room seemed nicely updated but was not clean at all. Shower still had hair in it. Floors and toilet didn’t seem clean. Clothes in the drawer from prior person. This was such an expensive stay for not great quality. Breakfast not included either.

Arrived earlier than anticipated. The staff was welcoming and eager to accommodate with the early check in request. Stayed and relaxed in the property without any issues. if you're looking for a reasonably priced accommodation this hotel is a great choice.

Upon arriving, the neighborhood is really busy boulevards with fast cars zooming all around. Once behind their gated parking lot, all the traffic noise went away. The staff was warm and friendly when checking in and the room was very upscale for the price I paid. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and nice, and they were plenty of towels. I stayed for two nights and it was very quiet with peaceful sleep. The surrounding area has walkable restaurants / food. I would read online reviews prior to choosing. I had good luck with this amazing New York deli just next-door. This hotel is safe, with a friendly staff, and plentiful parking. I would stay here again.

I’ve stayed at Blue Stem Hotel twice now. Both stays have been excellent. Quiet, very clean and very reasonable rates. Great renovation. Would stay there again.

I personally would call this a motel, not a hotel. They may (or may not; in any case we did not eat it) have breakfast but they didn’t have a restaurant. That said, it was cute and seemed to have recently been completely remodeled. They lock your car behind a gate and there is no additional charge for parking. They have an outdoor seating area which is nice on a warm spring evening. The guy that checked us in was very helpful. I enjoyed my stay.

Small but neat and clean and comfortable. The plus point is the safety as you go in and out through a gate with hotel room key. So safe in my opinion. A little pricey but I love the atmosphere and the friendliness from the staffs.

Really nice motel however one somewhat frustrating issue which is the lack of water pressure. Water was barely coming out the shower head at one point so that needs to be fixed.

That said, there are a couple of things worth noting. The shower enclosure leaks a small amount of water onto the floor, which is a minor inconvenience but worth mentioning. I also had an issue with neighbors playing music through their TV at a volume that carried into my room. I waited a couple of hours before calling the front desk, and to their credit, it was handled. The biggest drawback for me was road noise. The nicer rooms are positioned closer to the road, and the traffic noise comes right through the front door of the room. The patio itself is actually quiet and overlooks the interior first floor fountain, which is a really nice touch. But the road noise pushing through the front of the room undermines what is otherwise a beautiful space. Some kind of noise barrier or additional insulation on the road-facing side would go a long way toward solving this. It feels like a design issue that could be addressed without changing the appeal of the property. This hotel has a lot of potential and clearly has the right people running it. With some attention to sound insulation on those road-facing rooms, it could easily be a standout stay.

The only issues we had was the door of the room was not flush/slightly open when locked/closed. On the walk in, there was a slight mildew humid smell due to the ac not being on, but we did turn it on, and the smell went away as soon as the room cooled off. The person at the desk did attempt to accommodate us with changing the room for us but we already bleach wiped everything down/lysol the room and we were tired from our flight from N.Y., so we made it work. The person at the desk did also help us get some late night eats from "In and Out", our 1st time having which was very good and very much appreciative that he went beyond his position to help us with that. We chose this hotel for the location and closeness to the Royal Caribbean cruise port which was 16 miles away in the taxi that the front desk called for us. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend, it was great for what it was used for, an overnight stay to start your vacation off!

Decent hotel and good value. The room we stayed in was large and clean but extremely loud with street noise. Ask for an interior facing room if you want a good nights sleep. Service is very friendly and helpful and the lobby is a nice place to hang out in the morning.

My only gripe is the pillows weren’t giving “hotel pillows” lol. That may be a me problem bc I have trouble finding the best pillow in general. But they could definitely use some softer “hotel pillows” lol. Still 5 stars from me though!! I loved it here :)

Mirrors except in bathroom. LED BED SIDE TABLE LIGHTS! Too bright to put on in the evening. I soft lighting except for 1 desk lamp by TV. Pure white light otherwise. Blinding. ! Room has sliding bathroom Door with glass- which is semi-transparent . If anyone goes to the bathroom At night and turns on light, it lights up the living area/ room on everyone. Terrible idea to do this.

The parking is gated, the room was a nice size with vaulted ceilings, ceiling fan and room noisemaker. There was traffic noise so the noisemaker helped.

The property is new so I dont understand why the room was so filthy. The curtain that rolls down had a huge stain on it. The floor was dirty, not swept properly. There was hand prints and foot prints all over the sliding bathroom door, both sides. The walls had what looked like greasy hand prints. The floor boards were super dusty and crusty with dirt. We are local to th3 area and stayed to get away from family visiting. Ended up checking out Saturday evening. Also, the bed is super uncomfortable. Very disappointed with our stay. Front desk staff was great. Ill be honest, i would not recommend to family.

I love the rooms! very clean with a cozy and stylish interior design. The gated property feels safe, and the staff were all very friendly. The refrigerator had a bit of brown dirt inside, and the complimentary hair cover/cotton box was partly empty and opened, but it didn’t affect my stay too much. Overall, still a lovely experience!

You can hear every car on Sepulveda, anyone walking by having a conversation, and the people above us just walked back and forth the entire time they were there, to which you hear every footstep. We were woken up several times from all of those things. I do appreciate y’all taking care of treating the room for bugs.

What stood out was the customer service. They met all our needs and even checked on us to make sure the room was to our best accommodations. The room had its ambiance and the showers were great to stand and sit in as if u are showering and sauna vibes. The beds were si comfortable and we slept very well getting ourgood nights rest in. We definitely will be staying here again in the future.

I have stood here in the past and it is a very convenient location for me especially after a long 6 hour flight. The room this time around was not as clean as it has been in the past and i also asked for some flexibility for check out. I arrived really late and just needed if possible at least 30 more mins to get my stuff ready and check out. I was told i couldn't and it was also followed up by a call to make sure i would leave the room. I did not recognize anyone from the front desk so maybe they are new but it was not the customer experience i was use to. Still a great place because of location.

The rooms themselves were surprisingly nice and had a unique charm compared to other places I’ve stayed in LA. It’s not luxury, but it strikes a great balance between affordability and thoughtful design — the decorations give it real character. Location-wise, it’s right in the heart of Torrance, surrounded by bars, restaurants, and easy freeway access. The staff were all super friendly and respectful, which made the stay even better. They also have a cozy lounge area that looked perfect for working during the day — lots of sunlight — and I could totally see myself grabbing a beer from the front desk and relaxing there.

This is actually my third stay at Bluestem, and per usual, it was pleasant and enjoyable. The rooms are clean and the staff are friendly. It is by no means a luxury hotel, but it is definitely good quality at its price point. The only critique I had was that the beds are not particularly comfortable (soft) to my liking, but it was not horrible and uncomfortable; I know some prefer a firm mattress. I will return and recommend this location to anyone planning an LA trip, as it can be difficult to find good lodging for that price point in the city. Thanks, Bluestem, for your hospitality.

The gentlemen at the front desk checking us in was very friendly.

When we arrived and entered our room, we immediately found ants on the bed both alive and dead. My husband went to the front desk to report the issue, and they offered us another room. However, the new room was smaller, and they claimed it was the only one available. When we went to that second room, we discovered ants again this time in the shower. As we checked the rest of the room, we also found a spiderweb with a live spider. My husband had to go back to the front desk once more, but no one was there for over 15 minutes. When someone finally returned, he explained the issue again. They seemed surprised and offered to spray the room, saying there were no other rooms available. After my husband requested a refund due to the room being unclean and infested, they suddenly found another room for us. We moved there, but by that point, the experience had already been extremely disappointing. In short, I will never stay here again. I was planning to return during the holidays, but after this experience, that will not happen. The service was poor, the rooms smelled musty, and overall cleanliness was unacceptable. We paid $700 for just three nights, and it was absolutely not worth the price. You can see in the photos that the conditions were far below what anyone should expect for that rate. The pillows. For some unknown reason, they want to use these tiny little pillows and put about eight of them on your bed. That’s great that they give you so many but give me a regular size pillow, please. They have a weird little cocktail machine in the lobby that the hotel desk clerk makes a cocktail for you with. There were four choices of flavors but they were all pretty much just straight liquor in a cup. Not really worth 11 or $12 apiece. Finally, and totally not their fault, but the power went out for a couple hours so we were left stranded in the dark. Fortunately power was on just a few blocks up so we walked up to Subway and hung out there. Again, the power wasn’t their fault, but just sort of added to an already somewhat disappointing day. I doubt I’d go back.

Great for the price

First off I thought the place was a hotel but clearly was a motel All the doors are on the outside. Or else never would have stayed here. Wife that there was breakfast included that's not true. You can pay for it. $210 a night for a renovated studio 6 motel 6. Walls are paper thin sounds like dinosaurs are upstairs. I don't even think our bed sheets were changed bcause they had stains on them. I won't stay here again. Also the TV so old that all the people on it were purple so I couldn't even watch that at night. The front desk just says oh I'm so sorry about that.

Super cute and remodeled. First time I liked it, but this time saw more. TV is not set up for current streaming and bad line up. Plumbing- shower pressure is horrible, it’s loud and the towels are clean, but deep ground in stains on white towels. But the bed was very clean and whole room was. Also staff on Saturday not as competent as Friday when I checked in.

Curious hotel in the middle of a street where you hardly imagine to find it

The new management sucks, the staff though with fake smiles but with trashy policies, this place use to be a home but not anymore, saw a giant spider in the bathroom and told the front desk but she smiled through it without any concern… not ever recommending this place or coming back there…

The check in process is smooth. The staff and management are great and very friendly. They are accomodating and helpful. The lobby is modern and has a cool opening to outdoor that has great seating area. The hotel ingenerally quiet. Most guests are adults and business professionals, considerate. Not really a kid friendly hotel, which is nice. Rooms are clean, bed is comfortable, no pool which is also nice keeps noise to minimum. Simple ammenities more just necessities, but evrything easily accessible.

Having just experienced my first stay here, I must say it was truly delightful. The location is ideal and feels very secure. The room was exceptionally comfortable and provided everything we could have desired. The complimentary parking, with ample space, was a significant advantage. The staff are great -very friendly and helpful. The rooms are well appointed and attractive. The walls and ceiling are paper thin. Our upstairs neighbour paced back and forth over his squeaky floor all night, keeping both of us awake, and the air conditioner was loud. If it wasn’t for the noise, this would be an excellent hotel.

The parking lot is secured by a gate and requires a 'key' to access the lot. The lounge area is cozy (and has a nice chess set)and has a nice outdoor area for entertaining. The staff, receptionists, maids and utility guy were very nice and helpful. We had 2 friends over and we ate in the lounge and they gave us plates, forks and napkins for food we had forgotten. The rooms are clean and we were greeted by a towel folded into an elephant and swan. No microwave in the room but the lounge has one, which really was good enough. The room was roomy with a large tv and frig. No view if that is important to you. No cafe but has a small snack "store" and has hot water for coffee and tea. No pool or jacuzzi but has a weight room. If u need a safe, relaxing place to stay in Torrance, this is the place.

Such a convenient stay with the family. Our trip was extended a few times and we ended up staying for over 2 weeks with 2 kids in tow. The property is a renovated motel. The decor was modern and the renovation made it feel clean. The towel swan on the bed was a cute touch. Parking was super convenient, which is sometimes difficult to find in the South Bay. The property is gated with the need for key access to enter the parking lot so it felt secure. Staff was friendly. Lobby was convenient to work, eat, and meet. Computer and printer in the lobby for guests to use. Secure wi-fi. There are some dining options nearby, with one eatery walking distance, which added to the convenience. This is a great option for families and business travelers alike. Glad we chose to stay here over an Airbnb.

The best hotel in South Bay! It offers plenty of dining options and is close to Del Amo Mall and the best Japanese restaurants in the area.

Bluestem is a recently remodeled motel. The rooms are small but clean. The staff is very accommodating. The lobby is a convenient place to work, eat, hangout, and grab coffee or tea. It is great for families and work travelers as well. This is not an upscale venue but the value it presents makes Bluestem one of the best stays I’ve had.

I have a few things mention that I didn't like during my stay at this hotel, first of all is the king bed that has no king pillows, the pillows were small and not comfortable at all, we called the front desk but they couldn't help because those are the only pillows they have. Secondly, the construction noise at 8am which made my morning sleep the worst. Third thing I wanna talk about is the rusty water that was under every iron accessory in the bathroom over the sink, that wasn't safe at all. And last thing is that the room was very humid and every time you take a shower the room will be like a sauna.

The staff were awesome. Friendly, upbeat, professional and great. The thoughtfully free shampoo/conditioner and body wash was too strongly scented for me. If you like scents you'd probably like it. The shower was awesome, it sealed off pretty well so you could take a very steamy shower. The bathroom ventilation was slow to kick in and not powerful. I did like that all the rooms face out onto the interior courtyard so you could have fresh air immediately. The window shades didn't fully cover so light came through the edges at night and early morning when you might prefer a totally dark room. The rooms were clean, and housekeeping was offered which I like to use my towels for a couple of days. The rooms were a little smaller than what I'm used to for about the same price. For that price, I wish I'd just stayed at a normal hotel chain.

The hotel is centrally located in Torrance. There is gated parking. The lobby is open 24 hours. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The beds are very comfortable. The shower is excellent, great water pressure. The soap, shampoo and conditioner is wonderful by Bath Works Stress Relief. I highly recommend The Bluestem.
