Reviews
The hotel is praised for its prime location and friendly staff, but some guests find the rooms small and outdated. The cleanliness of the hotel is generally appreciated, but there are some complaints about the shower infrastructure and water pressure.

Staff was amazing, clean room and amazing location.

Bar was elite, room was solid very spacious. Location unbeatable if trying to tour downtown Chicago. 8 min walk from Union Station, 25 minute walk to Shedd, Field Museum. 15 minute walk to Millennium park and Art Museum

Be prepared to have an additional $200 pulled out of your card as a “just in case.” The room itself was as standard as you can think of a “hotel” room, not particularly clean or dirty. The bar in the lobby is aesthetically pleasing but the breakfast was well below par for $25 plates, I couldn’t even finish it. Thankfully the room comes with a breakfast credit but I still had to pay for orange juice because it took me over that credit.

2nd year staying here and loved each time
- 4/5
The location can’t be beat, right next to a Quincy for access to the loop and connection to other public transport. Within walking distance of the entire downtown. The staff are pleasant and attentive. For a business trip I would absolutely recommend. But for a lazy or cozy weekend, I would pick differently, there was no in room coffee or tea, and the bath water never got to a high soaking heat.

It was great for a one night stay. I stayed on the 22nd floor and the bed was perfect and so was the shower. However it was sooooo cold. I tuned off the ac and made sure the windows were closed but still had to wear sweats to bed, there was no heater in the room. Besides that it was great.

The front desk clerk was not helpful. He should have provided accurate information regarding the incident fee prior to swiping my card. The male front desk worker could not provide any information regarding the parking. We did not eat; he did not provide us with any information. All information about the hotel should be presented. I was not impressed.

nothing When I booked through Booking.com it was mentioned that the Breakfast was included, I did added the breakfast while booking, but the Hotel gave me a $50 credit for 3 Adults !! Seriously, just $50 that too for 3 adults and I had to pay for my breakfast, Another incident was on Saturday (25th April) morning there was no water in the building and when I call'd the reception they just informed they dont have water and dont know abou the ETA as when it will come, I mean are you guys kidding me an expesive hotel such as the MIDLAND HOTEL, doesnt even have water backup ?? That was just not acceptable.. I am really not happy with my stay experience, also I am not sure, if I will ever do any bookings from BOOKING.COM as they didnt clearly informed about the breakfast credit before.

Hotel is definitely has the social club atmosphere and no parking at this property best to make a reservation for parking at Tower garage that’s what the requirements are…Please check your receipt before leaving I was charged for the bar and never used the bar or restaurant…. I am not sure where the advertising picture comes from and the hotel is too dark for me I prefer a more family oriented not Social Club… It’s great if you’re looking for a social crowd in the lobby with dim lights
- 5/5
Coffee was fantastic, breakfast was delicious - especially the fried potatoes!! Best fried breakfast potatoes ever!! Restaurant staff were very attentive, everyone was kind. Comfy bed, nice and clean room and bathroom. Absolutely stunning bar on the first floor as you enter. 5 star experience all around!!
- 4.5/5
Beautiful lobby, loved the ambiance. Staff was abundantly helpful, happy and professional. Cheryl our Bardender was Awesome Proximity to the Elevated tracks made for high noise level. Missed having coffee in room instead of having to trek to lobby in AM
- 4/5
The room was nice and clean and the staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. The parking was a little hectic but it’s downtown so nothing can be done about that.
- 4/5
Nice hotel. Paid for the breakfast when booking but still had to pay additional $50. Bill over over $98 for two simple breakfasts. I would skip eating there.
- 5/5
Great staff. , clean rooms ! The manager was very accommodating. Loved the bar in the hotel aspect .
- 5/5
Breakfast at the hotel was good, but pricey. A bagel, smoothie and yogurt cost $45 with tip included.
- 4/5
Bar was closed early
- 5/5
The property at this location was absolutely gorgeous. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was amazing. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend staying here. I booked the room for one night. I asked for two bed but they gave me only one.
- 5/5
Bar was super clean the drinks were great
- 5/5
A fantastic hotel for solo travelers - perfect area, close to museums and restaurants, great bar
- 4.5/5
The location was very ideal. We took the blue line from O’Hare and the walk was about 5 minutes from the METRA. I didn’t like that there was a shared microwave. There weren’t any microwaves in the room, only one microwave next to the ice machine for everyone to share.
- 4/5
I had a King room, and it was small. I requested a microwave and refrigerator for a small fee, which is fine. The fridge was placed on the floor near the edge of the bed, so it was a bit tight. The bed was comfortable, and the location was idle. You could see the Sears Tower outside of the hotel. There wasn’t breakfast, coffee or tea stations, and parking options are expensive. Use SpotHero! Walgreens, McDonald’s, 7/11, and Dunkin are nearby.
- 5/5
The property was gorgeous and had fabulous drinks at the bar. It was walkable to so many things and the staff was super friendly and helpful!
- 4/5
Had a comfortable stay, location was great.
- 4/5
Location was great. Right next to a train stop. Walking distance to sears tower, art museum. Staff was nice. Our air conditioner/swamp cooler unit was running when we came in. And it made the carpet around the unit very wet. When I took my shoes off it made my feet and socks wet. We turned it off for the majority of our trip due to wet carpet.

- 4/5
Very friendly staff; clean rooms; bathrooms in rooms are an okay size but the toilet area is very small. My knees could actually touch the wall! Aside from that, I enjoyed the hotel and the staff.
- 5/5

- 2/5
Paper thin walls and so much noise from the room nextdoor.
- 5/5
Service and vibe were excellent. Nothing
- 4/5
I had never stayed here before but got a good deal on it. The room was quite small but nothing out of the ordinary for a large city property. I wasn't thrilled with having an inside adjoining room door and being directly across from the elevator, but it is what it is. Bed was comfortably firm. Biggest complaints - the window shades only shaded the outside light, didn't ever allow the room to really be dark; on the opposite side, the shower had no overhead lighting and so it was somewhat dark in the shower. Water pressure was so-so and the bathroom stainless steel sink was about the size of one in an airplane bathroom. Lots of counter space but tiny sink bowl. For the price I paid, I would stay here again - it is convenient to a lot of places in the Loop.
- 5/5
The gym was excellent and had plenty of equipment but that was where the amenities peaked. The staff was excellent and very nice. The room we were given however was not properly represented when booking. The bathroom was the size of a closet and outdated. The room was also somewhat out dated and there was no mini fridge in our room
- 5/5
It was close to Union Station, It is a beautiful hotel , we had a very large room. The host was nice and pleasant. Free coffee or tea in the morning. Hearing the the tram car go by, didn’t bother me after I fell asleep.
- 4/5
The breakfast and service were excellent. However, the breakfast room was rather small. The hotel was walking distance from the City Centre, which made it attractive to me. The small size of room for breakfast.
- 5/5
parking is expensive but u can park 500m for 10$ per day at subway station
- 3.5/5

- 3/5
The lobby looks amazing but the rooms are a different story. Some of the rooms are very spacious while others are very small. The hotel itself seems very outdated despite its chic lobby. The tv is placed on the side of the wall above the desk area which i also found to be odd. Along with not having access to netflix or streaming services unless you brought your own device and hdmi cord. Staff was very helpful and friendly though I would not stay again.
- 5/5
Great staff.
- 5/5
The overall experience of the hotel was absolutely amazing!
- 4/5
Room was clean and the staff was very friendly
- 5/5
I was able to check in early. That staff were very nice. Room was very clean and warm.
- 3/5
However, there were a few concerns. The lobby had a noticeable smell of marijuana upon arrival. The nearby parking structure was not suitable for larger vehicles the clearance was too low for our truck and we unfortunately scraped the top before being able to exit. Our room was also uncomfortably warm. We set the thermostat to 65°F, but the temperature remained between 75–80°F throughout the night, making it difficult to sleep. It seemed the thermostat was not functioning properly. Additionally, there were visible scuffs and markings on the walls, and the bedding did not feel fully presentable. The bed only had sheets covering it, and the comforter appeared to have stains. Overall, while the hotel itself is beautiful and the staff was pleasant, the stay did not fully meet expectations.

- 5/5
Room was clean, hotel had nice look to it
- 5/5
Great and easy!
- 5/5
It was amazing
- 5/5
Side note: the current trend in hotel bathroom lighting is muted, yellow lighting, which is really difficult to get ready to.
- 5/5
Super clean rooms , nice down stairs , loved the bathroom
- 3/5
no streaming services?
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my stay …very nice and clean room and a very comfortable bed. Very friendly workers who were able to answer any questions.
- 5/5
Staff was very nice and sweet with everything that we had needed! we were mostly there to sleep and explore the city but the bar was excellent and so pretty!
- 3/5
Room was in okay condition. The mini fridge didn’t work so it had a weird smell. The lighting is very dark and not much surface area for shower items. There was no fitted sheet on the mattress. Bed was more comfortable compared to higher end hotels I have stayed at in the area during the year.
- 3/5
There was black mold in the shower, which is not only disappointing but dangerous. Restaurant offering was minimal and service sucked. But I get it, it was New Year’s Eve.
- 5/5
The nice staff members!!!!! And the coffee and infused water available
- 4/5

The room was great and Juan was amazing! This man made our stay exceptionally pleasant. He was such a great host
- 5/5
Love it here
- 5/5
Great option for a long weekend!
- 5/5
Great
- 3/5
My room, however, was not particularly nice. The main issues being how dirty it was. The bathroom floor was sticky. The blinds and closet were so dirty you could actually see blooms of dust in the air when you used them. Also, I ran out of tissues and toilet paper by the second day. I feel like the room should have enough of these items for one person to get through more than one day. When I called for more, I was told it could be up to an hour before it would arrive unless I wanted to come down to the front desk. Only a minor inconvenience but not something I really felt I should have to do.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere

- 4/5
The scenery was beautiful and front desk was helpful and friendly. Parking wasn’t too far from hotel and there was food near it was perfect ! aside from the fact most crowds were older and stuck up me and my friends had a great time.
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and my stay was comfortable.
- 5/5
Awesome staff
- 5/5
The room was spacious and clean. Staff were all amazing and willing to go above and beyond. Also the location is perfect. I will always stay here when I go to Chicago!
- 5/5
Bar was nice. Staff was great.
- 4/5
Great snug room, was able to get a roller bed when needed. Shower handle kept breaking off even when somebody came and fixed it multiple times
- 5/5
Staff was nice and helpful. Room was clean and hotel overall was very nice.
- 5/5
The staff at check in was fine but the staff in the bar / lobby were mot very friendly. We always play cards and have a glass of wine and thet would not allow us to sit in yge lobby area. We have always had no problem at every other hotel we have stayed.
- 5/5
The room was spotless! Very nice bed was comfortable. The shopping was close. Parking was also close.
- 3/5
Unfortunately, we did have an embarrassing experience during our stay. We brought our own Govino cups of wine to the lobby to enjoy a game of cards, something we do on every trip. We were asked to leave because the wine wasn’t purchased from the hotel’s restaurant. If you enjoy relaxing with your own drinks and games in common areas, this hotel may not be the best fit. Because of this, we’ll likely choose a different place to stay in the future.
- 5/5
Very Friendly, Clean, Excellent Customer Service
- 5/5
Beautiful lobby, spacious corner rooms, and attentive staff!
- 5/5
Clean, super friendly staff
- 4/5
Staff were lovely. Unfortunately no coffee in room but got some in the lobby downstairs. Rooms very clean and good location.
- 5/5
The room was clean, and the staff was very courteous
- 2/5
The room felt really dirty and I was concerned about taking my shoes off to walk on the carpet bare feet. I slept really uncomfortable because I could feel the filth in the room although I couldn't see it at first. I later took a picture of the dust accumulation all around the bed Which made my skin crawl. It was really unfortunate and I'd like a refund.
- 4/5
The vibe of the hotel was awesome. The lobby bar is something out of a movie and the king bed rooms were spacious and very stylish. I would stay here again.
- 5/5
Rooms was nice and clean. Convenient location. Staff was helpful and friendly. Our travel schedule was a little wonky but they had a room ready early for us. Free coffee gets high marks and it was decent quality too. Location is great. Two blocks from Willis Tower and 10 minutes from the lakefront.
- 5/5
Great!
- 4/5
I just didn’t like that, they asked me if I need service or not when I was checking in. I rather just use the sign on the door, if I don’t need service. Other than that is a great hotel.
- 5/5
This location was great! Within walking distance of Michigan Avenue and Grant Park as well as cta trains. We ate at the Corner Bakery, just around the corner! Lots of dining options.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay for the marathon. 10/10 would recommend.
- 5/5
Hi! My only complaint is there was so non-dairy milk I had to ask for some, and they only gave me a cups worth (didn’t put out a carafe)… especially on marathon weekend this is a miss!
- 4/5
Very cool hotel but the menu for breakfast is a little limited
- 5/5
I love the hotel. Wish the room was a little colder but it was good.

Good clean location. Room was very spacious and comfy. Train stop is right around the corner.
- 4/5
Your front desk people do not regularly answer their phone. I attempted to call several times on my way into Chicago to request an early check-in, 3 phone calls went unanswered. Ultimately, I got through, but was not given early check-in, which was very disappointing.
- 5/5
Nice hotel, and staff. The location is not the best. Noisy train, and a lot of homeless people ask for money.
- 5/5
Amazing staff at the front, especially Alex & Chaad, great hotel amazing location and great local spots around this area to eat and enjoy Chicago.
- 5/5
Everything
- 5/5
My partner and I had a great stay at The Midland. Originally booked a Queen bed and was upgraded to a King for no extra charge. Room was a bit small but very clean and ideal for a one night stay. The location is in The Loop so there's plenty to do, see and eat all in the vicinity. We didn't use the bar/restaurant in the hotel since the food options were very limited and a bit pricey but plenty of other guests enjoyed it. There is also a hair salon connected to the hotel if you need that lol. Overall, a good place to stay in the city and you are likely only a couple of miles from whatever you want to do. Thank you!

- 4/5

- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
Good location, clean
- 1/5
We booked a hotel room that should have been ready by 3pm and we did not receive our room until 9pm…. We were from out of town and missed our dinner reservations due to this. The evening from desk manager was not helpful at all.
- 5/5
We love it
- 2/5
Asked the front desk to send someone to look at the shower the next morning and when we got back that afternoon, nothing was different. There was no communication of whether someone was sent up or even a note.
- 3/5
Not at all a 4 star many other properties available with better accommodations
- 5/5
the staff at the front desk were amazing! they upgraded our room to a king bed. the bedrooms are a decent size , beds are very comfortable and such great layouts. the hotel is overall very quiet which was great and is so close to everything!
- 5/5
Central to all imp sights, excellent service of staff and good rooms.
- 4/5
lovely hotel & location
- 5/5
I liked everything !
- 5/5
Honestly was a nice place to stay especially with its location. I know the Marriott was right across the street and looked nicer but for the cheaper choice it was still a solid choice. The building and facility is a bit older but there was nothing wrong with it at all. I'd definitely recommend it if you are looking for a solid but cheaper choice.
- 5/5
The hotel is right in the heart of downtown which makes it easier to walk to different restaurants, bars or attractions
- 5/5
Great staff, great hotel for price. great location
- 3/5
Not in the heart of downtown, but downtown none the less. Beware air conditioning was not working good most of my stay, and heard the same from other visitors. Bed wasn’t that great as well. Had a smooth check in and check out.
- 2/5
I stayed in two different rooms during my visit and both had a terrible odor.
- 5/5
I like it how it is cleaned daily and towels are always replaced with new ones.
- 4/5
They upgraded our room, and we had our refrigerator.
- 5/5
Excelent
- 5/5
Staff was great!
- 3/5
Great pillows, mattress, bedding and towels. The staff is very friendly.
- 4/5
Good experience of the hotel, the staff were friendly. Check in took a bit longer than it should IMO, as at the time only one person was working. Room was clean and tidy. Location of the hotel was ok, you need to be able to walk.

I came into a clean hotel and a clean room. However, I booked this particular hotel because they had a reputation for having an excellent gym, and I left disappointed there. They had two peloton bikes, but they did not have appropriate to eclipse. The breath of their equipment beyond that prove limiting, and the gym had a lot more people than it could service well. So I had to wait a long time for pieces of equipment. I will not stay there again for that reason.

Overall, I was satisfied with my stay. What I was not happy with was the clerk that check me in. I had asked for two queens or two double beds and she lied to me saying that they were all sold out. When she was having problems with the computer another rep stepped in and ask me what type of room I wanted. He told me that they had double rooms available.

Nice place

The location is excellent. It is within walking distance to the Sears Tower. The lobby looks like a million dollars. It is reasonably quiet considering hotel’s central location. The only downside is lack of a closet in our room. There was no place to hang clothes. But overall we were happy with it. The service staff was very friendly.

Very old, dated, no water pressure, terrible layout
- 4/5
It’s nice, clean, no-frills.

Nothing special for the rate
- 3/5
Room wasn’t very upscale, but the hotel was! Darryl gave us great customer experiences.. but Not enough amenities for the upscale vibe & No PARKING! Rate overall an 3.

Older but has been maintained and modernized

The front desk supervisor agreed to waive the cancellation fee for the room booking as soon as I booked the larger room. BUT THEY DIDN'T DO IT. Their lie got a second room booking out of me without without waiving the cancellation fee for the first booking. If they had refused my request to waive, I'd have made different arrangements for my son. I mistakenly trusted them. Stay elsewhere.

Hotel was great but the people on my floor were extremely loud. Running and yelling all night. Barely got any sleep on Saturday night. Also room smelled like smoke when I got there. I thought it was smoke free? Also trash was not taken out before my arrival.

Everything was superb!! I would stay again

Beautiful hotel, very clean and peaceful. My stay was great.

Smooth check in.

The location is good for the financial district. The carpeting was coming up in the room. The mattress was uncomfortable. And you have the sound of the El blasting through your window. Tiny elevators.
- 3/5
All in all it was a good stay, but they need to fix some things like the bathtub which was very slippery.
- 5/5
Very friendly, accommodating staff. Easy access to parking close to the hotel.
- 5/5
Great food and friendly staff.
- 2/5
The advertising regarding the premium room is a hoax. There is no sofa & jumbo living area. No fridge, no mini bar. The premium room is a deluxe room, but you’re charged more at the premium room rate.

Centrally located to downtown, easy train access, a short walk to Millennium Park, Art Institute and Michigan Ave.

We loved Chicago! A date night in another city with good food, great vibes and comfortable stay at a modern hotel. The W Chicago is in a class all by itself! We will be back!

Very noisy from CTA train even at level 19. The room appeared old and outdated.

Our stay at the W hotel was comfortable!

Everything!

A bit more than I would like to pay but it was well worth it. WiFi price at $15 a day is steep and not being affiliated with a garage is eh. My son always like to put the soaps in his bag but at $45 per bottle I nixed that 😂😂. Beautiful spacious room very clean, getting a coffee pot brought to the room was a snap. It was an amazing birthday trip !! Happy 13th Josiah!!

Great Customer Service Staff. Location perfect to walk to main tourist atractions.

We loved it. The area was quiet on the weekend as this is in the financial district. However, if you have a good pair of walking shoes, you are within 20 minute walk of really cool things. Hotel was beautiful and the staff were helpful. Always love staying at a Bonvoy partnered hotel.

Conveniently located nearby a plethora of activities within Chicago

Come on W, at this level of hotel, just offer free wifi and put a coffee maker in the room. Don't nickel and dime us making us become a points member just to get wifi. It's already expensive enough. Otherwise it's fine.

Stay was okay, staff put us in a queen room even though we booked a king. Went back down to the desk and they switched us out. We missed our dinner reservations because the ordeal took about 30 minutes. King room had some minor problems (paint peeling etc.). Pillows were horrible and hard to sleep on. Bed was comfortable though. Probably wouldn’t stay here again, but not bad for a 1 night stay.

Location was perfect great staff I can’t wait to go back.

I booked the property because some of the amenities in the past some of those amenities have been eliminated such as the selfie stick/photo booth it doesn't work anymore it's just sitting in the middle of the lobby the art as you walked in there was Art all over the ceiling, there is no more art on the ceiling. the business Center was down, and I could not get anybody to help me get a computer online the staff literally asked me to call tech support for them, and did but the tech support wanted Marriot staff code, and I couldn't find staff, again, so I could take some meetings because my laptop was dead seve

The reviews from other are true, unfortunately the location and brand name make me choose and was a regret.
- 2/5
Close to elevated train. Room tight, toilet tank assembly kept running, had unstick for it to fill tank. Desk by entrance made it tighter.

Location is great.

Amazing hotel and amazing staff

Quietness and cleanness of the rooms

Wished for blackout shades or drapes that closed/covered completely

As a Marriot member I was so disappointed with my stay. I chose to book despite reading negative reviews we enjoy historic buildings. While the lobby is lovely, the historic details are worth exploring, and our rooms were actually actually quite sizable, our complaints include the absolute poor, downright rude front desk staff, and the cleanliness-our room had urine in the toilet when we arrived and despite reporting this is was never cleaned. The whole experience makes me question my loyalty programming

Amazing location if you’re planning to come to Chicago. room is a little small but Great if you don’t stay inside of it. Staff was great answered all my questions and was not stingy with towels and water.
