Hampton Inn & Suites Downers Grove Chicago

We’ve stayed here a couple of times before and it’s usually a good time. This time around the pool was out of order, there was only one elevator so going up and down took forever, the room smelled like sewage, the staircase is very dirty, and even the breakfast was off! The staff is nice and that’s pretty much the only good thing.

Very comfy room, smart TVs, no noise issues from other guests, nice bar on main floor and complimentary water/coffee. Enjoyed the stay here.

Very nice rooms. My only comment was that the bathroom didn't have towel racks. But overall, very nice accommodations. The best part of the facility was the small bar area off the lobby. Johnny, the bartender, has a menu of very good, interesting cocktails. There is also a food menu, ordered through the bar. We each placed an order, and our food was very good, and reasonably priced! Definitely a plus for this facility is "Johnny's Bar"!

The day before checkout I noticed tiny bumps on my wrists, neck, legs, ankles, and feet. The day of checkout they were noticeable BITES as in bed bugs and possible fleas! The hotel allows dogs and I don’t know what their cleaning and carpet/furniture treatments entail including HOW OFTEN it’s treated! A ceiling light fixture was dangling when I entered the room. The couch and pillows looked like they needed to be thoroughly cleaned. The bar is nice but closes at 10pm and isn’t open on Sundays. The hamburger I bought was raw and breakfast gave me food poisoning. I recommend eating offsite unless you eat cereal, oatmeal, scones, or waffles. The sausage was gray and undercooked. The fake eggs made me and my husband very ill!

This property is immaculate. I throughly enjoyed my stay . The room was clean,and peaceful. The staff were incredibly accommodating with my request. I was greeted with a smile evrytime I entered the facility. I highly recommend this location to anyone visiting Chicago. This is what outstanding customer service looks and feels like. Hats off to all of the front desk staff housekeeping, and breakfast staff you guys truly rock!

Check in was great. I was able to get an early check in which helped me with my day. The women who checked me in was amazing. Super friendly and helpful. I will say I was disappointed in the room. It looked clean at first, but then i started noticing everything. Lamp shades had old food stains and one actually had food stuck to it. When I turned the AC on, the bathroom ceiling tiles actually would go up and down and i ended turning it off because it was loud when the tiles would go back into place. Bathroom floor wasn’t clean, i ended up wiping it down myself. I think the cleaning staff just needs to pay attention to details a bit more, but overall it was okay.

2. Unfortunately, there were 5 children under 10 yrs old running up and down the hall that same night, bothered us as soon as stepped out of the elevator, and was banging on our door twice. We called front desk who sent someone up. But, the noise continued until the next morning. We've stayed at so many hotels, and never had this happened to us.

I booked this hotel because it listed having a pool and hot tub. I got there and they said the pool was under construction. I get I booked through a 3rd party site, but they really should have communicated because I would have canceled. It was literally the reason why I booked them. The room was nice and the bed was comfy. Just wish I wasn't sold on something that wasn't available.

Bathroom smelled bad like the toilet needed to be cleaned better or something. Also, door to the hotel itself didn’t work/open on arrival but I was lucky enough for staff to be leaving as I was arriving and they helped me get inside.

Carpet needed better touch up vacuum. Was hoping to use the pool, but it was closed. Parking was good. Breakfast was ok.

Great hotel! Every time I come to this area this is the only hotel that I stay at. The hotel is clean, nicely renovated, has great staff and wonderful breakfasts included with your stay. Upon arrival you are always greeted very nicely as well as receiving a gift bag with complimentary waters.

Pool is advertised but there is no pool. I only booked for the pool.

A very nice place to stay! Very clean and we loved the complimentary breakfast. The bar area was also a nice place to hang out on the first night while our group was getting adjusted. We were disappointed the pool was not in working order because it was being upgraded, but just another reason to come back and check it out once it is finished! Great and comfortable experience!

We booked our room the beginning of December and was surprised to find that the pool was closed. A pool was a necessity for our stay, and I found this one using the pool filter when searching.

One of the highlights of my stay was The complimentary breakfast was freshly prepared each morning, providing a great start to the day. I also appreciated the comfortable beds and quiet rooms, which made it easy to relax and rest after a busy day. I would confidently give this Hampton Inn a [5 of 5 Stars]-star rating. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area, whether for business or leisure, as it provides excellent value and a welcoming atmosphere.

Room was 78 degrees most of our stay. The air conditioning was disabled due to being “winter months” which I could understand if the outdoor temperature wasn’t near 80 degrees. When I asked about this, I was told I could open a window. However, the windows didn’t have screens so bugs got in the room when I opened the window. There was also a very large wet spot in our room when we arrived.

Pool was closed for renovations, yet the listing and photos advertised pool. Misleading. Front desk was argumentative. Breakfast is very simple, cheap. Everything was watered down, not many options. I would stay elsewhere.

I really liked the room itself, suite style and very clean. Easily accessible from the highway and to shopping. My one complaint was that I wanted to put on the a/c but it wasn’t working. When I called the front desk, they stated that the whole building has to be heating or cooling and since it just started getting warm the cooling was not turned on yet. Thankfully I could open a window, but not having the option to put on the a/c was a bummer. Other than that, it was a very nice stay!

Was not aware pool was going to be renovated when booked thru Expedia, which was the main reason to seek an overnight stay- Was not noted clearly on Expedia when booking; though was noted on the hotel website after checking in. The room was cold at 62 degrees/heat was turned off and the window was open for some reason when we checked-in. Was not an inviting experience. Microwave provided in house was not standing straight so was a bit weary in utilizing it. Was overall an okay overnight stay.

Check in process took forever, almost 3 hours of a night shift employee who knows nothing about the system she is working on.. she also mentioned some hidden fees although room was paid in advance online, besides, the hotel room was out of date, everything smelled old.. morning staff were kind and nice however that does not justify the money paid.

The room needed a deep cleaning. The bed cover had stains on it (they did get us a new one quickly when we asked) and later we noticed some gross stains on the curtains and lampshades - ketchup, jelly or something? When I pulled out the chair to use the desk I saw lots of food under the desk, so obviously had not been vacuumed. Overall the decor was gloomy and the room was dingy. I was surprised because the hotel got very good reviews on cleanliness, which is why we picked it. I also assumed that a suite would have a table to sit at to eat but it just had a little one person desk. The staff was very nice though and the gym was nice too.

Overall, a good stay with a very helpful staff! The pool area could be improved with better ventilation (smell of chlorine and chemicals very high- we had some coughing reactions), and hot tub was visually cloudy and murky. Tried not to let kids get into it. After being at the pool for an hour two members of our group had stomachaches and one kid who'd been in the hot tub was sick all night. We would stay here again for location, but not use the indoor pool.

I was 2 weeks post op for my new hip and really needed a toilet with handicap bars. Instead our 1st and 2nd room had the lowest most poorly placed toilet I have ever seen. Too close to wall with paper holder protruding into needed body space. Absolutely no way for a disabled or even an older person to safely or comfortably use. I used the public handicap accessible restroom instead. Desk staff did their professional best. Otherwise the hotel was excellent. Wed manager’s happy hour was very nice. Thank you.

The staff were friendly and informative. The room was pleasantly cleaned and the bed extremely comfortable. There were a few moments where it got noisy in the halls, but there were multiple children on the floor that i stayed on, and the noise eventually quieted down later in the evening.

This was seriously a GREAT hotel. Better service than some luxury hotels. The gal who checked me in was great (night of 11/20), they give FREE waters your entire visit that you can grab anytime, free drinks at the welcome reception, big room that are super clean, and a huge breakfast spread. Every employee I encountered in the bar and kitchen area was great. I can't say enough good things about this hotel.

This hotel is so clean. The staff is cleaning but they would put out a floor dryer so the floors were not wet. They wiped down elevators and common areas and it smelled incredible. It was so busy, there was a huge family with so many little kids, but the staff kept everything immaculate. The breakfast stayed well stocked and there was great variation from day to day.

Noisy! Spent money on a quality room, only to be checked out early, but also had to deal with noise for over 3 hours making it a difficult nights sleep.

The room itself was clean and comfortable. However, the only negative I experienced was the condition of the toilet upon arrival—the upper inside of the bowl was not clean. I contacted housekeeping, and to their credit, they responded promptly and had it cleaned within about 45 minutes. Despite that one hiccup, I would still recommend this hotel for its convenience, amenities, and overall cleanliness.

The front deck person nicole was amazing, there was an issue with my booking that was made by the third party when booking. She took good care of me Hopefully the payment issue was resolved and i will not have to pay for the stay twice.

Wonderful experience with the front desk staff members but the cleanliness could have been better. Old linens from previous guest still on the bed when we arrived, dust all over and hair in the shower. Went for coffee in the mornin and it was out, went to the hot tub for a soak and it was being looked at by maintenance. Just in the right place at the wrong time the whole time.

I liked the fact that they lock their doors at 11pm until 6am which make you feel safe. Also I was able to take the bus to Chicago and ther3 are a lot of restaurants option near the hotel. Breakfast was also good with different option to choose from.

I didn't enjoy my stay because I booked a room with a King Size Bed and got a full-size bed instead. What made the situation even worse and very frustrating was being told by the staff members I dealt with that I don't know what a king size bed is. I felt being treated like an idiot.

They kept beverages available at all times- they didn’t tell you about them, but after the 1st day- you ask. They had free water in a cooler and on a shelf in the “purchase snacks”area, that’s why I thought you needed to pay. They had complimentary cookies at certain times- didn’t know that either until my Dd told me she saw them & I asked. ( Also in the purchasing area, no signs.). Breakfast was hot & delicious, that staff talks to guests, I even spoke with the Chef. Very clean and multiple varieties of coffee & teas to choose. Housekeeper was nice and helpful to us. Definitely a place to return too!!

The first night due to bad weather our flight was delayed and I called the hotel to inform I will arrive after 1am. Still they cancelled my hotel and in the last moment gave us a dirty room not cleaned after last guests and all of the carpet( the floor) was WET! It was a horrible experience. Worst hotel ever. Next day 12 pm they changed and gave a different hotel but the room services were so poor. They wouldn’t give towels or water when asked for.

We made it by 1:00 am but were told the system was “doing its thing” so we couldn’t check in for another 15 minutes. It ended up being about 20 minutes. Customer service was lacking when we called to give the heads up that we’d be late, but in person it was much better. The hotel was booked full. When we got to our room, there was a very strong smell of animal urine in both the front room and the bedroom, and there were obvious large stains on the carpeted floor. We couldn’t be moved due to the hotel being at full capacity. The hotel is large and old. It looks like some things have been renovated in an attempt to make it look more modern, but it’s still a pretty rough facility. It served its purpose for us, but I would not return, nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone.

When we got into our room it looked great. However 5 minutes after letting our one year old crawl around while getting unpacked for the 3 days we were going to be there her knees and top of her feet were black… it was disgusting. We immediately went down and talked to the front desk lady and she didn’t really seem to care at all. Didn’t apologize or seem concerned. I thought this was a big problem. Our child should be able to crawl on the floor without getting dirty legs and feet. Very unsanitary and dirty. Found some hairs on the bed and bedding. Again the front desk didn’t seem to care much. Overall it was good but the hospitality and cleanliness was not good at all.

Horrible horrendous hotel trying to be classy but definitely not it. Had to wait 20 mins for a elevator to get to the 3 rd floor… multiple times during our stay. Half the pool is open… its the middle of summer why isn’t the outside open yet? And the hot tub i would run away from it was a horrible disgusting color we snuck in the pool from a random stair case to see how horrible it was with no one there… ewww i would run from this place there also very ignorant. We had 4 adults staying and we asked for extra stuff they gave two really flat pillows and a small blanket we ended up giving them what we brought. This was more of a hassle then a vacation… also why has this location been 3 different names already

My room was decent and clean. Although, my room did have small, but still noticeable damages in the furniture and the bathroom ceiling. I didn’t like how there was only 1 elevator that works and stairs that only goes down. Therefore, I didn’t have another way to get to my room.

One of the 2 elevators was broken the entire July 4th weekend and the stairs were not an option as they were for emergency use only. Thus, any trip up or down t extra long, especially over the 4th of the July weekend when the hotel was extremely busy.

We stay here whenever we come to Chicago, a great place to stay rooms have always been clean.

There were ants all over the pool and hot tub area, the indoor pool looked dirty and outdoor pool was covered with moss and debris on top. They serviced the room every other day and we couldn't get clean towels or replacement kleenex or toliet paper... we stayed r/t the cheaper rate compared to a hotel less than 2miles away and I'd rather spend the money and get better quality next time.Won't stay here again

The stay was great. We got adjoining suite rooms which were nicely updated and served our needs perfectly. The parking was plentiful and the the staff was very kind. Particularly impressed with how smooth breakfast was on a Saturday morning. Will definitely stay here the next time we visit.

Everything was perfect

As far as room condition, it was ok. The sofa was creaky and the cushions were thin. The room itself was missing it's room number placard, which made us unsure initially if it was our room - we had to test our keys to verify we were at the right room. The outdoor pool apparently has been out of order for a long time, as it was covered and the cover was full of algae. The front desk staff was a mixed bag, some definitely just pushing off requests by saying 'management will be in tomorrow morning' but some were helpful.

Staff is always fantastic there. Breakfast has lots of options which is great. The only problem was that there was a leak in the bathroom ceiling and I had to change rooms after two nights. I watched the maintenance person pull the ceiling tile down and there was water and mold behind it. Other than that, the experience was fine.

I checked in to my room expecting a pleasant stay but automatically noticed the ceiling tile in the bathroom was not right. It was not in place right and looked very suspect. I notified the front desk and requested another room but she said she was booked for the night. She then called maintenance and a man named Johnny came and explained to us that the room we were in was still being worked on and that they ran out of ceiling tile when they got to our room. He then said the best way we can avoid seeing that shabby looking tile is to close the door. He then said to tell the front desk to see what they can do. When I asked him to come to the front desk with me he instantly zoomed off and said he had something else to do. Nothing else was done. The ceiling tile in that bathroom was half done, yet I paid full price for the room. Real bad maintenance service and I got a room that was not 100% complete. Very disappointed stay. The shower gel in the bathroom was supposed to be free to use but the bottle was empty. Real bad service.

We checked out of a dirty hotel to switch to the Hampton Inn. It was clean and well maintained.

The hotel smelled amazing!! The front desk staff were very welcoming and polite. The whole hotel was clean. The pool area had ants, the hot tub was hot but the jets weren’t working but the technician got them working right as the pool closed. I’ll definitely be back I want to swim through the indoor outdoor pool.

Nice hotel. Mostly friendly staff. Was told upon checking in the pool had been contaminated and was being cleaned but was assured it would be clean within a couple days. Knowing we had significant plans that would consume the entire day the next day, I believed that would be fine.. afterall, they said the hot tub was functional, and I am a full-time single mom and nurse and I desperately needed a soak. I was looking forward to hitting the hot tub with my kiddo and my best friend(who would be joining us the next day in her own suite). The next day was just as long as I had initially thought it would be, with lots of activities in Chcago and dinner plans with the bestie! When we all returned to the hotel late that evening, we were informed the amenity we had planned our hotel stay for was going to be closed for the rest of our time there. The kind person at the desk offered us some free 3 day passes to a gym type facility in the area. Upon inspection, only children 13+ were allowed to use the facilities. My son is 9. So, part of what was going to be a fun vacation we all deserved, turned into resentment and a tearful bedtime. He was looking forward to wearing his new swim trunks. So much dissapointment. Had I been told truthfully the 1st night it would not be cleaned, we could have made other arrangements.

My suite was fabulous.

It was an amazing weekend stay, free breakfast every morning along with free parking and easy access to plenty of stores
