Reviews
The Heathman Hotel in Portland is generally well-liked by guests for its beautiful building, convenient location, and welcoming staff. However, some guests have experienced issues with housekeeping and room temperature.

Location is great in downtown Portland, easy to walk anywhere Rooms were more utilitarian than expected, but clean
- 5/5
Great venue, great location. Will definitely return.
- 5/5
My corner room was beautifully laid out and everything felt high-end. The only negative was that the library was moved to the mezzanine level and compacted to a few bookshelves in the hallway. The 3000 volume library advertised and pictured on their website simply did not exist. But really everything else about the hotel was fantastic.
- 5/5
All was great! Staff was helpful and hotel was clean!
- 3/5
My experience was so mixed. The hotel was finished nicely and in an area that was convenient for me. The bed was comfortable and the room was what I needed it to be. It was nice, but there was no place to put any clothes except 5 hangers in the closet and the night stand drawer. My issue was the unevenness of the staff and pretty dysfunctional operations apparently behind the scenes. My fire alarm battery died in the middle of the night and the guy at the front desk said I'd have to wait until engineering arrived at 8am to get a new battery. I ended up having to disengage the detector myself by standing on an unstable lounge chair. There was no follow through to replace anything the next day until I got back from meetings and asked for it again. And when I spoke to the manager after, she apologized but also didn't follow through on what she proposed as a response to the incident. I had to email after I traveled home to get things settled up. It ended up taking a lot of extra time and energy to stay there when I was busy enough with work stuff while there, so I probably wouldn't choose to stay there again. Shame because it was a pretty nice historic hotel.
- 5/5
Beautiful interiors, buzzy bar/restaurant with great cocktails & happy hour nibbles. Loved hanging in the gorgeous library. Inexpensive parking accross the street.

Staff did great helping us change rooms when the AC wasn’t working. Hotel is clean, fun, and very unique!

Great location. Such a majestic hotel. The library is an especially great addition. Room was great and the staff excellent Highly recommended
- 5/5
Great hotel for value. Location is good. Rooms clean. Check in was quick and easy.
- 5/5
Clean, spacious, walkable
- 4/5
The lack of late night food for room service and limited menus, along with poor resolution of a barking dogs in the next room situation made me feel like this was just a fancier motel experience. It didn’t strike me as a full up hotel, and eve though it’s located in the downtown area and has nice interior design, it’s hardly luxury.
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 1/5
We arrived at the hotel with a confirmed reservation number, only to be told they could not find our reservation and had no room available for us. Despite this being entirely outside of our control, the GM’s response was essentially “too bad,” and we were left scrambling to find another hotel during a sold-out vacation weekend. While we were eventually told we would receive a refund, that did nothing to address the stress, inconvenience, and disruption caused by being stranded without accommodations.
- 3/5
We got a good rate on the two rooms so ok The room was nice but not really nice so ok The bed honestly was better than ok The window was nice but dirt so ok They charge a $30 fee per night but give a $15 restaurant credit so ok They have coffee in the beautiful lounge but it is really sour so ok The check in and check out was slow but ok Really a nice building but it isn’t as nice as it could be. Ok
- 5/5
What a wonderful spot. Gorgeous property, convenient location, and helpful staff. I wasn't expecting to have to use a French press in the mornings, but I got used to it. Plus, they serve coffee at the property.
- 5/5
I’d love to say that the best part was the restaurant in the hotel and the delicious French toast for on the breakfast menu! But the cherry on top was the staff! They were very nice and helpful the entire time!
- 5/5
Staff was excellent. Great central location.
- 5/5
Staff were super helpful (particularly the valets - not only did the always open doors, but also had great recommendations for places to visit locally). The hotel is very beautiful and peaceful. The room was absolutely silent even though we were right next to the elevator. Could definitely invest in new mattresses for the pull out bed - it felt like you were sleeping on springs covered by a sheet. Otherwise the room was very comfortable.
- 3/5
Well-situated hotel in downtown Portland makes walking to the city's main cultural and commercial attractions very easy. Hotel is adequate and clean. Some issues with plumbing in the room that were addressed. Staff is polite, but did not have good maps for or information on art galleries, which was the main purpose of our trip. Restaurant was ok.
- 5/5
The bar lights were a little bright, a dimmer may be helpful. Not a lot of garbage cans in the lobby.
- 4/5
Food was very good. Bed comfortable. Staff very impersonal, save one.Bathroom tiny and inconvenient. Nowhere to put things. Not enough outlets for electric personal appliances. Shower has mold at base. Toilet bowl stained.
- 2/5
Location Rooms were too noisy from both inside and outside with loud sounds of air conditioning and the entrance to the rooms would snap close very loudly. Did not reveal $58 a night for valet and they charge %3 for using credit cards all found out after payments were made.

Disappointing
- 5/5
Staff is always helpful, beds are comfy, and location is convenient to everything downtown, including transit.
- 5/5
Very pretty room. Was not expecting it to be modern/ so upgraded. Mini bar in the room had plenty of drink options. Disappointed that we didn’t get a scare in room 903. Hopefully one day we can travel back and have a spooky experience if it really is haunted. Wish my husband and I could’ve stayed longer. Only bummer is no parking. Valet for 58$ is way overpriced. Risked ourselves in a parking garage with towing warnings to leave our rental overnight for 20$ half a block away. Queen bedroom for 160$ and a comfortable sleep. Did not get to try amenities. Hotel almost reminded me of Mr. C Seaport in New York with beautiful wood interior and nice dark/ neutral colors and seating.
- 1/5
The hotel was oversold due to a cliche in their new system so we had no rooms to check-in. They offered us to stay at the Hilton across the street- it was substandard and we went elsewhere. The only saving grace was the general manager Catherine who did her absolute best to make a bad situation as best as it could be. I would never stay at the Heathman again but Catherine was truly wonderful.
- 1/5
Staff here were incredibly unhelpful and rude. We couldn’t get a room key for hours and check in was chaotic. The hotel is not four stars.

This was one of my most favorite stays in a beautiful boutique hotel. (And I’m super bougie so I’m very particular lol). The space was beautiful, the rooms spotless and the staff were amazing. I won’t stay anywhere else in Portland. Thanks for making such a great first impression.
- 5/5
There were plenty of parking areas around the Heathman.
- 5/5
I booked on Hotels.com and was a little surprised when I checked in and was asked to pay an additional "resort fee" for each night of my stay. But the good location, welcoming and accommodating staff, and otherwise good value for the property allows me to overlook the fee. The fee apparently covers your access to the coffee service in the morning, bike rentals, and a daily use-it-or-lose-it $15 credit for the hotel restaurant.
- 4/5
The details of customer experience is not perfect I have to say, for example the toilet sink is too small to fit in the kettle it provides, and toilet counter top is too narrow to put its dryer. If you are looking for modern boutique hotel with a nice design, this may not be the one for you.
- 5/5
Very centrally located! The room was clean and the view from the room was nice! The staff were very friendly. Ned was comfortable. Parking on site was very expensive so we chose to park in a garage across the street for much cheaper, but otherwise no complaints! Also, if you are a Peloton user, the bikes in the gym picture are peloton but they have adjusted the pedals so they don’t fit Peloton shoes. Just a heads up if you were thinking about bringing your own shoes! You’re better off just wearing normal sneakers or regular bike shoes.
- 5/5
Very clean, quiet. Food was very good. Staff very helpful in correcting a billing error. Construction in progress but clean and quiet. Hotel very good.
- 5/5
The hotel is in a great location downtown and is quite lovely. The restaurant is fantastic so make sure to check it out. The property was going through a small renovation but we were told in advance.
- 2/5
The room was tiny and it was left open when we arrived which was as a very bad vibe to show up to that at night.

Used valet parking. No onsite parking.
- 1/5
-bellhop didn’t help, service elevator broke, valet didn’t have a uniform or try and help us get the car until asked if he worked there, under construction, toilet clogged the shower and flooded the bathroom with sewage, asked to clean the room (towels/bed) they never came, asked to bring coffee/cream/cups to the room, this took thirty minutes and two trips, highly don’t recommend. Not worth the price.
- 4/5
The hotel was undergoing renovations, so that was a little disappointing, because they were renovating the bar. The tavern restaurant had yummy food and service was great. Room was nice, good self serve coffee.

I wanted my girlfreind and 1 to visit the hotel and see if any paranormal activity would occur. at one point in the evening I went into the restroom and a text from her asked if i were crying? I replyed no and asked why the strange question? she said please dont take long, I hear a man wimpering and crying in the room. So strange sounds and noises happen alot here and I shall return at some time in the future. thanks for the memories

The food at the Tavern restaurant in the hotel is amazing and the wait staff is super nice, location in Portland was ideal, rooms a bit noisy with heating cooling system.
- 5/5
The hotel was very clean and nice. The staff was above and beyond at all times.
- 4/5
Right now, they are doing some renovations, so things are probably not quite up to par. The breakfast was not bad. Part of the resort fee was applied and we also received two cocktail vouchers instead of a bottle of wine, which we used for appropriately sized breakfast bloody mary and an mimosa. We split the Heathman breakfast which was plenty for us to enjoy, since we are not big breakfast eaters. They asked how we liked our eggs (over easy), but they came out omlette style, so slight communication issue, but not a big deal. We enjoyed it anyhow. Staff in kitchen and at front were appropriately pleasant and kind, but seemed a bit "stillted", which is probably more appropriate to the stressors of the world and economy atm. We don't not blame them for being not genuinely enthusiastic about working, especially in the service industry. We would stay there again, amenities are nice, our low rate room, was no view, a little loud with the air system, but overall a pleasant, stylish room, comfortable bed and bath.
- 3/5
the hotel is undergoing a remodel that is distracting. the staff is good and managing well under the circumstances. the remodel has lost the old charm an ambience that made the Heathman special.
- 5/5
I absolutely love everything about The Heathman!! Room service, French coffee press in room, the bed, the library, everything!!
- 2/5
Was under construction, which meant the restaurant hours were effected by this and also in room dining. Not a luxury experience at all having to pay a resort fee seemed totally unnecessary I’d say considering. Won’t be giving this property another try which is a same as it’s a very historic Portland location but under new ownership and has lost all of its magic.
- 5/5
Overall we had an excellent stay at the Heathman, even with the lobby construction. Our king room was extra large and comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially for our baby. We used the nearby SmartPark garage (at 4th and Yamhill) for parking with no issues and ~$15/night.
- 5/5
The property was undergoing renovations when we were there. While the construction did not affect us, they appeared to be understaffed. The check in staff did not appeare to be as knowledgeable as should be and seemed apathetic to our needs. We checked in later in the evening. They only had one person at the makeshift desk at any time.
- 5/5
Room was excellent and if you aren't traveling with pets they will put you on a top floor. The rooms were very nicely furnished and loved the mini bar with very fair prices. The staff was incredibly friendly especially the valet! The hotel does have a $30/day amenities credit, but you get $15 towards the restaurant as part of that. In a great location ideal for shows at the Arlene Schwartz theater. Will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Fun shopping, eating and drinking within walking distance. Hotel is under construction in spots, but it never interfered with us. The staff was spectacular in every area, especially front desk and restaurant.
- 3/5
I was underwhelmed with this hotel. It is under construction right now, so the lobby layout is confusing and feels very cramped. Our room layout was fine and it was clean, but the bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen. The bathroom door was a pocket door that did not go all the way to ground, thus providing very little privacy. The location is great, but this was billed as one of the nicest hotels in Portland and overall felt very mid-range.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect, from our spacious room to the service.
- 2/5
Unfortunately the staff wasn’t friendly, if you could find anyone. The lobby is under construction leaving no entry after after 10pm other than a doorbell. An employee stood staring at my daughter and I refusing to open the door for 5 minutes until we could flag another person through the window.
- 5/5
Nice place and close to lots of places in the city.
- 5/5
The room was great.
- 5/5
Heathman was wonderful, clean, great staff and service. Great location in the heart of Portland, close to many major venues. Restaurant in Lobby is major disappointment (took 3 hours to get our dinner one night, tried to order room service in the morning and restaurant would not answer the phone, hotel desk clerk took our order for us - major shout out to the Heathman staff - outstanding!!).
- 5/5
The staff was wonderful. Check in was fast and easy and the rooms were very clean. The lobby was a bit chaotic due to construction but I'm excited to see what it looks like when its finished.
- 2/5
The room was poorly maintained. ( toilet not secured to the floor, flapper valve in the toilet had to be pushed down manually every time we flushed, pocket door was held together with zip ties and didn’t close properly). Homeless people in and all around the property. A regular at the bar ( female) was loud and vulgar. I politely asked her to please tone down her language and she got even more loud and even more vulgar. Not or best Valentines…..
- 4/5
Great rooms, after the renovation the common areas in lobby should be good. I’d recommend it after construction is over.
- 5/5
Checkout service was outstanding
- 4/5
The hotel was under renovation at the time but it was not a problem for our stay. The staff was great. The hotel was bright and clean. Lovely time. Will stay here again.

The hotel is just so comfortable. The room has plenty of space, the bathrooms are great. Mostly, the staff are so genuinely friendly and helpful. It's a great place.

Clean, comfortable room. Loved the coffee set up -- French press with lots of coffee and cream and sugar. Room was quiet and staff was friendly and helpful. Will stay there again!
- 2/5
The room they checked me into was dirty, so I had to come back several hours later and move everything because I had an appointment and couldn't change rooms right away. They charged a resort fee for nothing, the elevators and main floor were under construction and was not appealing.

The Heathman is an iconic Portland hotel. It is currently undergoing renovations so it lacked its usual charm, but it was a good stay none the less.
- 5/5
The room was clean. We had plenty of fresh towels. It was really nice to have a restaurant available for breakfast in the morning.
- 3/5
The hotel was under construction, which wouldn't have been such a big deal, but the hotel felt understaffed. Check in was a mess, they sent us back and forth between various floors because they couldn't figure out where to do it. We left dirty dishes and trash outside the room where it sat for 2 days. The bartender was beyond rude and unhelpful, and barked at us before we even said a word. The room was great and comfortable, but I was very underwhelmed with the hotel.
- 5/5
Love this hotel! Great vibe. Clean room. Comfy bed. Friendly and helpful service.
- 5/5
Staff was very welcoming. Everything was very clean. Beautiful place. Staff was very prompt with any requests. Would stay here again.

Great place to stay
- 5/5
Such a comfortable bed and bedding. So cozy. Loved the bathroom amenities. Friendly staff. Excellent location.
- 5/5
It was the best/experience stay I had in any hotel thanks
- 2/5
This hotel simply isn't what it used to be. It used to be a 4-star experience with a beautiful main floor library and uniformed valets. The main room just underwent a poorly conceived renovation that permanently relocated all the books and bookshelfs to a small space on the mezzanine level, so the main room is now a generic but nice looking "social space" that could be anywhere. The valet team was badly understaffed and no identifying clothing, tags, or logos whatsoever. The lobby is still under construction so you have to drag your luggage up some stairs and through a restaurant to get into the hotel at all.
- 3/5
The staff was very friendly, and the hotel is dog-friendly, which I appreciated. However, the building was under construction during my stay, and the required stairs in the lobby made it difficult to navigate with my dog. The rooms felt outdated and dusty, and there were no smart TVs. In-room coffee was provided via a French press, which wasn’t practical for me in a hotel setting.
- 5/5
Great one night get away
- 4/5
Clean spacious room
- 5/5
The friendliness of the staff was most warm and welcoming. The room was definitely spotless -
- 5/5
Perfect place for a short trip. The staff was very helpful.
- 5/5
Courteous staff, great location, clean room. I wasn’t sure what to expect at this price point in Portland (first time here), but was pleasantly surprised.
- 5/5
Clean room and good location!
- 5/5
Wish I would’ve known the Lounge area was closed down
- 2/5
We eat dinner at their restaurant. The burger was 90% raw. The fries were also raw (unbelievable). The server didn’t come back to check on us until my wife had completely finished her dinner. They still charged me for the burger... I’d recommend eating at another local restaurant, there are multiple.
- 4/5
Everything was great including the view , only thing was I booked for the library and wasn’t notified that the library was under construction other wise I wouldn’t have spent the money. But as far as the room and hotel the staff was amazing.
- 5/5
Great place to stay downtown.
- 5/5
Breakfast was good. Bar staff were very helpful. Good location and reasonably priced. Valet parking was very expensive so we only rented a car for the day to avoid these fees.
- 5/5
Everything was great.
- 5/5
Very nice room. Friendly staff.
- 4/5
The room was cute and clean. Overall I really enjoyed my stay there. The area is very convenient and many places are walkable so that was important to us. Bar and waitstaff were great. Would have given 5 stars but a huge part of why I booked was to see the historic library but it was closed for renovations and that was not on the website. I would stay there again or recommend to others.
- 5/5
A very pleasant stay and the staff was very friendly.
- 4/5
Staff was courteous, room was clean and comfortable. There was a dog barking on our floor. Parking is expensive. The bathroom was quite small and only room for one person.
- 3/5
It was very hot , and the AC wasn’t working at alll . Also the light in the room are very low and the customer service very bad
- 3/5
However, there were a couple inconvenciences during my stay. One of the Hotel’s main attraction (the Library) was closed without previous notification until getting there (which was one of the reasons I booked this place). Also, the room wasn’t cleaned after the 1st night, which is something you’d expect in this type of Hotels. Regardless, it’s a nice place and in a convenient location.
- 1/5
Renovations made it very claustrophobic and the library wasn’t available, which is the whole point of staying at the Heathman. Housekeeping woke me up at 8 am and then came back and knocked on the door twice more in the next hour before I called the front desk and asked for them to please stop knocking on the door. It was awful and I will never stay there again.
- 2/5
To make a long story short, they did not meet expectations mainly because what they advertised was very misleading. Do better Heathman, the recommendations we received from others were so far apart from the experience.

- 5/5
Beautiful hotel and very friendly staff!!!
- 5/5
Perfect for what we needed! Small but lovely room on the top floor, friendly staff, and a great location!
- 4/5
Staff (Brandon) was extremely accommodating. The facility was very clean and in a perfect location. Do NOT believe the "war torn" Portland narrative.
- 5/5
Nice stay!
- 5/5
Good quality, very well located and the staff were excellent.
- 3/5
I requested housekeeping services after the first night and it was not done. At checkout they charged me for valet parking when I didn’t have a vehicle with me.
- 5/5
Our stay did not come with free breakfast but the options there were fresh and tasty. Free coffee and tea if you walk into the main lobby. Cozy rooms with a bunch of amenities. Even had a selection of drinks and snacks in the room to buy if you didn't want to walk to Safeway. We used the valet for our stay since we didn't want to worry about trying to find parking.
- 4/5
Beautiful studio king room. The library in the lobby was under construction. No mention of the construction was given on the hotel website nor Expedia. I selected this hotel over other similar hotels for the 3000 books in their library. This was disappointing.
- 5/5
Great location, we walked to dinner and our show. Lovely staff and nice room.
- 5/5
Great hotel.
- 3/5
Construction going on continuously
- 5/5
The staff was accommodating and friendly, also able to answer our questions and provide recommendation. In addition, we were there for an event, and the Heathman is perfectly situated. We will stay there again.

Next event at The Schnitz, and I'll be back at the Heath! Thank you!
- 4/5
Friendly staff and nice simple menu well prepared
- 3/5
Room had an unmade bed when I checked in at 930pm. Had to move rooms. No notice of gym being unavailable which was important to me. No wine offered despite it being part of my package. Toilet broke in 2nd room, took ages to get repaired. No free breakfast offered. Staff were very kind and professional.
- 5/5
Staff all very courteous. The room was perfect. Experience was great!
- 5/5
Room was a bit warm but great overall!!!
- 5/5
Great time
- 4/5
Great location and courteous front desk, restaurant and bar staff. Only issue was that I was expecting free bottle of wine on check-in and was given a food credit instead which only covered a single day. Was told that I would not be charged for mini bar wine but was charged anyways. But otherwise hotel was great and very reasonably priced for its amenities.
- 5/5
Great stay! Comfy bed and great location. Was in town for comedy show right next door
- 5/5
Welcoming, friendly, convenient location. Room was clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
Clean room and staff was kind. Dinner was delicious.
- 3/5
parking is valet only for a whole $55/night (yikes).
- 5/5
The location can’t be beat - right next to Symphony Hall and incredible dining options and you can walk anywhere. The dining is good and the bar area is lovely. This is a great classic hotel in a great part of Portland.
- 5/5
Great hotel.
- 5/5
This property is in the heart of the downtown and I will stay here again in the future when I come back.
- 5/5
Great boutique hotel! Beautiful
- 5/5
I requested a corner king room and it was fabulous. Windows on two walls gave the room bright cheery light and the room size and decor were wonderful. The walk-in shower was so much better than a shower over the tub. I really appreciated the electric teakettle and tea bags. Loved the Tavern restaurant but didn't like the liquid soap dispensers with heavily scented soap and additives that were irritating to my skin.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Clean room friendly staff and an overall nice stay in a good location
- 5/5
Checked in early without any problems, the gentleman who checked us in was so polite and friendly, he even upgraded our room as I had my two boys with me to allow us more room. That was appreciated and very kind of him. The hotel is updated and very clean and beautiful. Felt safe for being downtown. Would stay here again for sure!
- 4/5
There is a chocolate shop Azar Indulgences that is exceptional that is attached to the Heathman. So friendly and they offer a variety of chocolates!
- 4/5
What a classy place! The staff is great and the space is so inviting and lovely. I enjoyed the coffee service featuring delicious Portland coffee and the room was delightful. The only things that keep me from giving it 5 stars were 1) the pillows, which kept me and my companion from getting a good night's sleep and 2) the room service QR code menu which was impossible to use. Luckily when we called in an order, we got excellent service.
- 5/5
The room was large and the bed was very cozy.
- 5/5
Nice property Great sleep night!
- 5/5
I felt safe, the room was lovely. Everything was very comfortable. It was very close to my destination. Lots of walkable things nearby.
- 4/5
The location is fine close to the theater and a few parks they have a decent restaurant in the hotel with a bar parking was pretty easy for the city as well so no need to valet really offered a late check out which was great and the general manager was a very nice person. I'd stay again.
- 5/5
From curbside valet/bellman, to front desk, to restaurant staff everyone I came in contact with provided great customer service. The room was very spacious. Enjoyed my sitting are. The bed was very comfortable. I really liked the steamer vs having a iron and ironing board. The robe was a nice touch too. Only downside was the bathroom/shower area was small/narrow. I would recommend this hotel and if have business in the area again will stay here.

Friendly staff, beautiful property, convenient location. Perfect for solo travelers- highly recommend. I stay here at least once a month- Jared in valet is the best!
- 3/5
Room wasn’t ready even though I arrived after check-in time. A ridiculous $29 amenity fee was charged for amenities that I never use. The soap dispenser in the shower was empty and the window in the room wouldn’t open, preventing the flow of fresh air. I stayed at the Heathman in the 1990s and it was a luxurious treat, and now it’s a huge disappointment. I want my $29 back.
- 2/5
Not that of a pleasant stay. The front desk morning shift male employee was very rude and disrespectful. He gave us a Heatherman king room that was supposed to be big and has a king size mattress while in reality the mattress was queen and room was super small. You could hardly fit in the bathroom and there was only one chair. When we asked the front desk employee that the mattress is not king he denied it. Even said you have the biggest heathman king room while we say the one next to you thst was way bigger!! Valet staff were very friendly and professional.
- 3/5
Severely understaffed restaurant. Food wasn’t very good. Very slow service in the restauant-took far too long to get my food at breakfast.
- 5/5
Easy check-in, clean rooms, super comfortable bed. Restaurant was wonderful and servers at the bar and in the am for breakfast were amazing. Best one night getaway in years!
- 4/5
Cool building. Grew library. Friendly staff. Only negative thing I can say is that they advertise a happy hour in the restaurant/bar and we went down to take advantage of it and were told they changed chefs and ton have it. So we got up and went somewhere else to eat.
- 5/5
We had one issue, the shower water was scorching hot and unable to adjust with control handles. Room was clean as expected and staff was helpful and kind
- 5/5
Thoroughly enjoyable stay. Loved the library setting. Good restaurants just a short walk away.
- 5/5
Always love staying at The Heathman. It’s my favorite hotel in Portland.
- 5/5
Love this historic property. Very comfortable.
- 5/5
The Heathman had the right combination of casual grace, amazing personnel and perfect cleanliness. I felt special...hard to find these days
- 5/5
Location was great in downtown. Room was nice and the staff helpful

Friendly

he hotel was clean and the staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. I know it is a hotel with an extensive history , however, the rooms are small and overloaded with many large items such as the television - way to big for the room. A glass night table next to the bed was so big it slightly hung over the mattress. There was just enough room for me to shift the table so i didn't hit my head during the night. Also, the bed was not a queen as noted. Moreover, the bathroom was really small. This also contained a large rack for towels and extra toilet paper. Every time we walked in and out of he bathroom we hit the rack. The shower was very narrow with poor water pressure. I know parking can be limited - something i did experience in other areas, but I thought it was a bit pricey and space in front of the hotel is limited.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and rooms were clean and nicely decorated.
- 5/5
The place was just amazing and so perfectly placed to so many restaurants and other things to do in Portland. We will definitely go back.
- 3/5
I used to love staying at the Heathman before Covid. I guess the hotel was sold around that time. Since then, it’s a whole different experience. Gone are the Bellmen in their Beefeater uniforms, the welcome bucket of beers at check in, the happy hour in the library, the guy with drink cart who would knock on your door and make you the cocktail of the day, etc. What you get now is $29 tax and resort fees that include free coffee in the morning, bike rentals, the gym, $55 a night parking and a $15 restaurant credit at a place that closes at 8 on the weekdays and 10 (if you’re really lucky) on the weekends. If you’re going to a show at the Schnitzer, you definitely won’t be able to get a nightcap before going back to your room. Oh, and if you want to close the bathroom door, you pretty much have to get in the shower.
- 5/5
This hotel was clean, aside from finding a hair or two on the shower wall.. the bed was comfortable. I would stay at this hotel again.
- 4/5
The hotel has a nicely revamped old school feel which I much appreciated. Lobby area with library room is very cool. However, the room and amenities themselves were somewhat lacking, Room was much smaller than we expected. Water pressure in the bathroom, both sink and shower, was abysmal and nowhere near the standard of a quality property. The TV, while quite large, was awkwardly positioned for watching and antiquated. It had no streaming or airplay capabilities and was not user friendly. I also find the add on of a $29 per night “service fee” to the actual room cost deceptive and insulting. We were not at the hotel long enough to take advantage of any of the perks the fee supposedly entitled us to.
- 4/5
Great location for attending concert at Arlene Schnitzer. Close to downtown dining/shopping. Convenient Valet parking .
- 5/5
We thoroughly enjoyed the Heathman Hotel, its location, the recommended restaurant, the Tavern restaurant at the Healthman, access to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, the valet, everything! It was a treat! Who knew that it was right next door to so many cultural venues, like the Schnitzer and three other performance halls, also a half mile walk from the Keller. We slept great, too. Wonderful mattress! Everybody we encountered who worked there was friendly and helpful. Kristin, who checked us in and out again, was super-helpful with answers to all of our questions. Nick, the valet, made an extra trip to our car because we left something in it, and he was able to leave it in our room for us. The artwork in the hallways was another treat, as was the library with all of its books and comfortable seating. We ate in the Tavern for breakfast the next day and it was delicious with terrific service. We wished we'd planned a longer trip. Next time, we will.
- 3/5
It was 0k. The room was large and comfortable. They asked if i wanted maid service and we didn't get it. Since I'm a 'silver rewards ' member we got drink vouchers. Was disappointed the bar wasn't opened til 10pm as advertised but still got a coffee in the morning.
- 5/5
Nice hotel in a great area to explore Portland. Nice breakfast at the hotel restaurant and a cute chocolate shop on site!
- 5/5
Charming, very cool, and restful
- 4/5
Nice hotel, though, there was definite room for improvement. Sofa bed was really not good and the bathroom ceiling appeared to be suffering from a damp issue.
- 4/5
Was a beautiful part of downtown and there was amazing live music on the block. We walked to our restaurant. The valet was quick but it is a small area to pull up and wait in with a lot of downtown traffic. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.
- 5/5
Great rooms and the lobby and library are stunning. Lots of stuff nearby
- 5/5
I like the bed here very comfortable
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Amazing staff and the valet was worth every penny!
- 5/5
It has been a great stay!
- 5/5
Great staff. Beautiful property. Not a big room but very comfortable. Great breakfast at restaurant. Cars overnight $55.
- 5/5
Cute little hotel with lots of walkable bars, restaurants and shopping around.
- 4/5
Staff are nice, property was clean, the woman that works at the front desk and the valet parking attendants are very nice and accommodating. Would stay again
- 4/5
The bathroom in this particular room was so tiny it was uncomfortable to do basic things like wash your hands. Really poor design. Other than that, it was great.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel in the heart of the city.
- 5/5
I liked the friendly staff, they met me at the curb and always held the door. The lobby staff were friendly, the room was clean and inviting. My favorite things were the free coffee (that’s so rare these days!!) and spending time in the library. Stunning!!
- 5/5
The staff were very friendly. Got good drinks at the Tavern. Rooms clean and central location.
- 5/5
Food and drinks were very good. Bed was comfortable
- 5/5
Restaurant could use an additional employee on Sunday morning. I really felt for our waitress
- 4/5
Desk staff were professional and very accommodating; the library offered a comfortable environment for family game night; location and valet parking were great. Only detractor was thoroughness of house keeping house keeping which was offered on request only—upon arrival, our body wash dispenser was empty and house keeping did not remove the used coffee/tea cups from our room despite these being provided as part of the in-room amenities.
- 5/5
Room was clean and spacious. Stafff friendo
- 5/5
Loved the room and the food
- 5/5
Many subtlies in design say experienced hotel service provider. The staff is consistently great.
- 5/5
Nice!
- 5/5
Had an amazing stay at the Heathman.
- 5/5
Helpful staff
- 5/5
Nice clean room, wonderful A/C (appreciated during a very hot week!), excellent service and they must be one of the last hotels left who actually offers room service! Bravo, Heathman!
- 5/5
wonderful library !! dog friendly. good restaurant (the Tavern). love the SE-corner rooms. great staff ! been staying at the Heathman for over 30 years---close to amazing park near Portland State Univ.------
- 4/5
Location is very easy, street parking readily available so did not need to use valet. Great coffee in the morning. Wish there were more amenities like a pool. And the mini fridge in room was too full of drinks to purchase, or our own food needed room to store milk for our baby.
- 4/5
Great location- original room tiny- paid for upgrade
- 5/5
Every time I come to stay at this hotel I’m not disappointed. The staff is accommodating and pleasant. The whole building is comfortable and pleasant.
- 5/5
Staff were wonderful.
- 5/5
Room product was great -- spacious, well lit, nice decor. The Library (lobby) was fun. Terrific staff, including Nick at the front desk.
- 4/5
The service from valet was excellent, especially the gentleman working on 7/9/25 when we checked out.
- 5/5
Unique rooms. Old building, but updated to be very comfortable.
- 5/5
Very cool hotel. Library common area was cool. Complimentary coffee in the morning was excellent. Rooms were clean. Wish the restaurant and bar stayed open later.
- 1/5
They don't respect the established prices, they charge more and for things they don't even tell you about. I don't know why they're charging me almost $200 more, and when I ask, they only respond that I receive the receipt in my email and nothing has arrived.
- 5/5
Lovely place to stay! Good location
- 5/5
Lovely hotel!
- 5/5
Great hotel, great location. Fun gym set up. Upgraded to a room with 2 bathrooms, so my wife was happy
- 5/5
Loved the hotel. The old-new charm, the clear attention to local talent (art, coffee, food), and the attention to the full sensory experience make this a fantastic stay.
- 5/5
Room was excellent that update newly style.I think. But hard to recognize where is frege and coffee machine.its hidden.but not micro wave.frege wasn't use for customer.no much space to my food or big drink
- 5/5
Beautiful property, great staff!
- 5/5
Liked that the property was near a lot of options downtown.
- 5/5
We had an enjoyable stay.
- 4/5
Location, easy off-site parking across the street. Room and bath clean, though smaller than expected. Table with only one chair, two would have been more useful. TV placement seems odd. Noise from room above, lots of walking noise. Lobby staff not very helpful with city maps or directions. Stayed two nights on vacation after driving the Oregon coast, overall ok hotel, not spectacular.
- 3/5
Not memorable at all
- 5/5
Good location, nicely kept, friendly staff
- 2/5
Nicely appointed, convenient downtown location. Texted to join happy hour and arrived to learn it wasn’t happening. Amenities fee a little ridiculous for offerings. Staff not particularly welcoming, painfully slow housekeeping to get enough blankets and towels for the room (plan to call a couple times!) would stay elsewhere, unfortunately.
- 5/5
It was a great place.
- 5/5
Beautiful room great service overall very comfortable stay
- 5/5
Our room was updated and clean.
- 5/5
The rooms are spacious, clean, updated and comfortable. I would stay here again.
- 5/5
Unique boutique hotel with comfy beds, quiet rooms, and a quaint library, all in the heart of Portland, walking distance from the waterfront, Powell's books , and the Arlene Schnitzer concert hall. All staff were helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.
- 4/5
Great TV but in poor location in room Nice robe and slippers. Excellent in room coffee Excellent restaurant but not available at all hours
- 2/5
Room was very small and with the starlight parade happening made parking or traveling from the hotel extremely difficult. Wish someone would have mentioned the parade
- 2/5
One thing i can't stand is the staff keep making noise when
- 5/5
All I can say is, this place is pro level perfect. Book it! Excellent location
- 4/5
The hotel's design strikes the perfect balance between cozy and modern. Common areas like the lounge and restaurant, offered stylish, quiet spaces to relax or work. The location is truly within walking distance of many points of interest including theaters, shopping and restaurants. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the accommodations. Check-in was fine, and the front desk staff, while polite, lacked the warmth and attentiveness I expect from a boutique experience. Our plan was to have a nightcap after dinner on our first night but we were thoroughly disappointed when it was already closed before its posted closing time. When I asked the front desk what time it would close tomorrow, he said "I don't know" -- no, let me find out, let me ask someone -- nothing. Valet did have a hard time locating my vehicle due to the attendant writing my name illegibly on the tag but they figured it out in a timely manner and were apologetic. If location is important, I'd say its fine to stay but if service is high priority, then this isnt it.
- 5/5
Great spot to walk Portland! Good amenities and very comfortable clean hotel.
- 5/5
Central. Warm and inviting. Good restaurant for a hotel.
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay at the Heathman and found the service very friendly and responsive. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and the library is just gorgeous. My only concern with staying there was their entryway. My friend that I was travelling with is disabled and needs to use a wheelchair for anything more than a very short walk. The entryway to the hotel does not have easy access for a wheelchair. The person in the wheelchair has to ride in a small lift that sits just past the doorway and it has some issues with the latch on the upper level that makes it necessary for someone to hold the upper level lift door shut in order for the lift to operate. All I could think about each time we had to come and go through that entry way was what would happen if the electricity went out or there was an emergency that required a rapid exodus from the building? Not a very confidence boosting situation unfortunately.
- 5/5
It was a great stay
- 5/5
Staff were so kind, respectful, and welcoming
- 5/5
Very comfortable hotel. Big, clean bathroom. Excellent shower. Comfortable bed. Was a little cold. Asked for and they brought up a very cozy down comforter. Convenient and great food at Tavern.
- 5/5
Great stay
- 5/5
Property was great and the staff very professional. Our only complaint is that the tv didn't work when we woke up. Called the front desk at 6:30 and was told the engineer would have to fix it when he arrived at 7:30. It never did get resolved and we checked out at 8:30.
- 5/5
The customer service at this hotel is on par with a five star luxury hotel. I will only be staying at this hotel when I travel through portland.
- 5/5
Stay was great
- 5/5
The hotel was really nice and friendly0 staff!
- 5/5
was enjoyable thank you to staff
- 5/5
Beautiful safe portion of downtown. Valer parking available for $50 a day, plenty of street parking and a few garages nearby. Ten minute walk to bars, clubs, restaurants and food carts. Room was clean, bed was comfortable.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel, centrally located downtown. Very easy to walk to a multitude of venues, shops and restaurants. They recommended a very nice parking garage where my vehicle was safe all night. I would for sure stay again the next time I'm in Portland.
- 5/5
Great dining experience with Luci. Looking forward to my next visit. Joanne C
- 5/5
Property was very nice, well appointed, rooms were nicely decorated and comfortable. With the exception of one server in the dining room for breakfast one morning, the entire staff were friendly and helpful. The bellmen were increibly attentive! There is a restaurant onsite with a lounge, and a small coffee shop/chocolate shop. It was easy to walk from the location to the waterfront park or up to the gardens. Parking however, is expensive (as with most cities) and not onsite owned by the hotel. We opted for the valet service as the parking was down the street in a parkade.
- 5/5
Gorgeous hotel and a very warm and friendly staff .
