Terrible check in experience. Front desk staff was confused and overwhelmed by reservation issues with other guests. Check in is at 3pm but room was still not ready at 4pm. Room seems to be missing furniture. Trash in stairwell. In my opinion, property is not well managed and whomever is managing the property is missing the details that would elevate a customer's experience.

Reservation was for a king room. Presented receipt of reservation for King room. Check in clerk said reservation came through as a "double queen" and no other king rooms were available. She did say sorry for the mixup.

Indoor Pool is a great option for our son to get out some energy before bed and before heading out for the day's activities. Breakfast is filling and has plenty of options, even for our picky eaters. This is our third time staying, and the rooms are always clean. Our room faced the railroad tracks, but we didn't mind because we're not light sleepers, and our kids found it exciting to watch. Great central location that is really convenient to 81 and 64. We spent part of our time in Harrisonburg, part in Charlottesville, and a bit in downtown Staunton. All locations were easy to access from the hotel. Great affordable hotel to stay in during a JMU or UVA football weekend when the prices in the other towns go sky high. The only thing that would make it better for us would be if the rooms were a bit larger, with a pull-out sofa. However, for our needs on these trips, rooms that accommodate 4 were enough.

Breakfast could include Fresh fruits. Not much option for vegetarians who needs something on the go Bed Mattress needs to be changed. It sinks more on one side.

Easy check in, comfortable room. Our beds slept very well. Only complaint is we could hear the person next door’s tv.. so I’m sure he could hear ours, too.

The gentleman working front desk was nice, I didn't get his name. We were traveling with my dog. When we checked in they put us on the 4th floor. The toilet was nasty, it had not been cleaned. We ask for someone to clean it, we were told no one was available to clean it that night. The next morning, as we were leaving housekeeping was in the hall, so we ask them to clean it. The manager was standing there and said, yall are not supposed to be on this floor with a dog. They moved us to the first floor. Also, there is a train track right beside the hotel. They put us in a room closest to the track. Trains ran all night. From then on they were not friendly to us, we had nothing to do with being put on the 4th floor. Also, the outside door locks did not work. You are suppose to use your room card to open it. My husband was taking our dog out walking. He got locked out and had to walk around to the front in his pj's in 30 degree weather, because the lock was not working. I usually don't leave bad reviews, but we travel alot and I will not choose Best Western again.

It was just an ok hotel. I was struggling with a luggage cart and carrying breakfast for my husband, who was sick in the room. An employee came out of the elevator while I was trying to go in. The proper thing to do was to hold the door open for me while I got the luggage cart and food in the elevator. But NO, he couldn't be bothered. The elevator shut as I was pushing the cart in, orange juice went flying, and he still didn't help. 2 kind guests helped me instead. They even went out of their way and accompanied me all the way to my room.

Easy to get to. Good breakfast. Comfortable beds Pool was nice temperature. Coffee and tea in lobby 24 hrs was very nice. Baggage cart wheels were difficult to move. Bathtub seemed stained. Old carpets in rooms.

Bathroom tub was filthy.

Dinning are to small for the amount of people staying, had to go some where else to breakfast.

Our room was not properly cleaned before checking in. There was a drawer that had medications left from prior room guests and there was a used bar of soap in the shower. Our room key card did not work the first night and had to go down to have it reactivated. Upon returning to our room for second night of our 2 night reservation, our room key card did not work again. The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable and the floor behind the chair had obviously not been vacuumed in some time. Received a phone call within an hour of checking out saying we left our medication in the room. Thoroughly disappointed after the reviews indicated “Excellent” rating!

The beds were comfortable and the room was reasonably spacious. Coffee and tea were available in the lobby at all times. I had a problem because the charge was doubled on my credit card, but they resolved it during my stay. I was not informed that I had to request room cleaning one day in advance. The breakfast is not of good quality.

We were there overnight and everything was good

A pleasant stay. Only complaint is that the kitchen ran out of butter because the delivery truck was late. When that happens someone should have the authority to run to a store and buy what is needed. Other than that everything was great. I would go back.

Older property but seems to be fairly well maintained Bathroom shower walls are spotted up but I think due to age. Got double charged by hotel but they did refund it.

Vacation

Confusing check in where I get left standing with no room key while they began to check in the next guests. Seemed irked when I asked where my key was. They said it was printer problem...?

Clean and quiet. Only a couple issues that gave the stay a negative rating. Air conditioner worked well (felt like the arctic). Breakfast was run of the mill eggs/sausage etc. Good not great. Coffee was good. No issues with parking Check in. There were 7-8 checking in and only one front desk worker. He was trying to check them in and deal with other issues (guest's tv remote didn't work so he was trying to contact someone to help with this and ended up giving the a new room as the replacement didn't work). The shower head was also in bad shape. It was leaking bad no matter what setting it was on and provided little pressure (seemed to be pretty old - room 215)

This hotel is clean and attractive. We enjoyed our stay

Hot showers and a comfortable bed are important when working a show. Both were excellent. Our stay would have been even better if the air conditioner worked properly. Once someone looked at it the performance improved but still could have been better.

The room was roomy and comfortable the breakfast was very good

Was advised at check-in that they do not make up the rooms on a daily basis. Had to constantly ask for fresh towels and to have the trash cans emptied.

Train runs behind the hotel, quite a shock in the middle of the night.

The lady at registration was very nice and professional.the big issue came when we went to shower No Hot water at all had to take cold showers and baths and there was no maintenance personnel working the eve shift to help address the issue. The room was nice and clean no hot water is the deal breaker

It was good for an quick overnight trip

There was mold in the bathroom ceiling, dust all over th room. The room smelled like stale air and dog. There was a cricket crawling in my pillow in the middle of night. I had to buy my own cleaning supplies and deep clean the bathroom and Lysol the room to get the odor out. The shower curtain was dirty. I will not be staying here again. The quality of the hotel was terrible for the $500 I had to pay. Highly disappointed

Overall condition was good , staff friendly and accommodating

Seemed outdated and not in the best area. There is also a train that runs right next door that woke us up after midnight and had the windows shaking for several minutes. We left at 3am just to get out since we weren't getting any good sleep. Very disappointed.

This was the cleanest Best Western I have ever been to! All of the staff were friendly, attentive and very helpful. The breakfast was fresh. I will definitely book another stay on my next trip.

Needs remodel

I was pleasantly surprised with the Bear Western property in Staunton. The hotel was very clean, staff was super friendly, the room was adequate and in good condition. All on all a great stay. My only point of feedback is for the shower - when the trigger is pulled on the faucet it doesn't engage fully.

This place was safe and the staff friendly. It was run down and the bed looked like someone had made it up and then lounged on it before we arrived. Also the phone was off the hook which was just odd. Was fine for a night or two.

The room was not clean. Bath faucet was coming out of the wall, The tub, mattress pad, and floor were dirty. Mattress was lumpy, etc. The front desk did give us a different room that was better and the breakfast attendant kept everything clean and filled.

Nice

The rooms are somewhat clean. The staff will not take trash out unless you check out. It is not posted, but it is something we found out during our weekend stay. I recommend single overnight stays but nothing extended past that.

Everything was wonderful. The only thing we didnt like was that there was a train nearby that was very loud just as we were falling asleep.

The check-in/check-out was fine but staff was not overly friendly. No issues though. The full breakfast the next morning was great with many options. Breakfast staff was very friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable but we had a very noisy neighbor playing the tv as loud as it could go half the night. There is a train track next to this hotel but we did not hear a train while there for our overnight stay.

Staff was cordial. Room was stuffy, and there was mold on showerhead.

All of the ice machines and vending machines were out of order the rooms need a major upgrade the bathroom tubs are stained and the seal around the tubs falling off over disappointment

I love this hotel - have stayed several times. The only thing I would change would be to update the tub.

Overall decent hotel. It’s a little older and showing its age but no big deal. Biggest issue is the bathroom did not seem super clean. There were hairs in the shower upon arrival. Staff was great and experience overall was good but they need to work on cleanliness.

The bed was not comfortable at all. Pretty standard BW breakfast. Location os pretty good so close to Shenandoah National Park.

Sink hand smudges, didnt look clean. There was a rail road track behind the building, heard the train early in the am. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good stay for what i needed.

Everything was good, as expected. One problem, the tv selection was extremely limited, and the remote was difficult to get to work properly. Luckily, we’re not big tv people, but it would be nice to have a far better selection than 4 channels.

The room and bathroom super clean. And as far as a hotel breakfast definitely one of the best that I have had.

Breakfast area was way too small and obly had 3 slices of bacon and 2 scoops of eggs when we arruved for breakfast. The pool was nice.

I have been staying there for quite some time. It's convenient to the show I am working.

We have stayed there many times, the service is always good, but the hotel has really gone downhill ! The carpeting is old and worn out, in the shower the paint was all chipping. It’s a great hotel. It just needs some updating now.

The pillows were old and lumpy. The lighting was poor. Al in all it needs to be updated or closed. The breakfast was absolutely pitiful. We won’t be back.

The staff was excellent. Its a dated yes, but very clean. Only reason I rated a 4 was because of being dated and this creepy statues.

Needed some where comfy to stay the weekend for work. Very nice, even though the sheet was a bit stained which i understand some stains cant come out but still. Definitely need to replace them completely. I just didnt sleep on that side. Like i said just needed something comfy to sleep for work. Other than that, had a great stay

When I showed up to the property to check in, there was a gentleman sitting at the counter and as I proceeded to tell him that I had a reservation in my name, he started to giggle and say I don’t work here. The lady that works here. Had to go away for a little bit. I waited around for a few minutes thinking maybe she just had to run to a guest room or something but after a long day of travel, my husband and I decided to go eat dinner( Cracker Barrel is right up the drive.) when we came back the lady that supposedly works at the front counter was there and she was pleasant enough, but being not from the area, it is very unnerving to be greeted the way we were. When we got to the room it smelled of garlic/bad BO the adjoining door was open to the room next to us which we closed, locked and barricaded when we finally got to bed after a busy day on the road, someone in the other room came in and tried to open our door adjoining our room. Again, being exhausted, knowing that the doors were barricaded and extra security measures have been put in place that we do at every hotel. We went to bed. Woke up the next morning eager to get on the road wasn’t expecting much for breakfast and that was a good thing had expired milk, eggs, and omelettes that were questionable in Ziploc baggies with no ingredient list or expiration dates on them settled for some juice and oatmeal cup. Went to get coffee and they only have decaf coffee. Yes decaf only hotel in this market NEEDS REGULAR COFFEE

Second year stopping here. Met all my expectations. Very nice breakfast. And indoor pool is just great

On line pictures are not in line with the room we stayed in. Outside was “new” looking and updated. Day staff very friendly. Night staff was not very friendly. The room… carpet stains, shower floor needs to be bleached or just cleaned? Room looked like it was not updated in many years. Definitely not what was shown on line. Very disappointed in the conditions of this hotel.

We've stayed at this motel several times over the years. Like it, but they did not have orange juice nor butter offered at breakfast.

Great stay overall. Room in general were clean, updated and no no big issues. Only thing I'd suggest is to update the bathroom. Shower / tub looked a little dirty, and trim around the tub; didnt look like a proper fit. Also toilet paper holder (crome plated) was rusty, don't know how that happens. Invest more in the bathrooms and this place easily goes up a star in my opinion!
