The first room I was given had a broken AC. I called multiple times to get it fixed but ultimately had to go downstairs and demand being reassigned to a room with a functioning AC. The second room we were assigned had a functioning AC, but the temperature never made it to what it was assigned. The lighting panel in the room also didn’t function, but the lights would work if you turned on individually. Not sure why it’s there if it doesn’t work. The hotel is otherwise conveniently located, historic, and the amenities are newly remodeled. I’ve stayed at DC hotels with much better service and responsiveness. If you decide to stay, consider doing so in a cooler month given the AC issues.

The spa is incredible. I’ve been staying at the Watergate for the last four years. My most recent trip was for my daughter’s graduation from George Washington University. I also had two other couples stay at the hotel for the Graduation. I was given a room above the valet and car park. My guests were given better rooms. I had no screen door on my balcony, which I wanted to leave open for fresh air. We heard cars & valets every night. I should have been given another room or upgraded to make me happy, it was the worst room imaginable.

I traveled with my son who was celebrating a birthday during the trip. I spoke to multiple staff about a special surprise for him and it never happened. When I contacted the staff, they were not concerned about the mishap and said they would try better on our next visit. What makes them think that we would go back based on this experience? Also, the rooftop is not open often and staff are allowed to shut it down before closing if they feel like it.

For the price we paid, the experience was just average. No outdoor pool, not many amenities to enjoy but the place was clean. The room was kind of underwhelming because the walls were thin. The spa was okay, the masseuse I had was excellent. But it was underground so no sunlight to enjoy while you’re in the spa, it felt kind of dark and damp. The dining options were kind of subpar.

Room service didn’t work. The rooms are very dated. The balcony/river view was a concrete wall. The room was not worth what I paid for it. Other than the shower being huge, it was poorly lit. Never again

It is in a good location and it is very clean. They play into the kitch of the scandal, which is fun, and the staff is very helpful and kind. The 70s decor is on brand but they could use new carpeting and furniture in the rooms.

The staff everywhere worked incredibly hard to please their guests and make things right despite the rain. And honestly, it is amazing to watch what a very well-mannered four-year-old does to win everyone over. Good manners go a long way, and watching people light up when interacting with a polite kid completely changed the energy and the mood. Plus, seeing this city through the eyes of a child changes your whole perspective. It reminds you exactly what sacrifice is for: the freedom to just be together, explore, and build cherished memories. At my age, none of that is lost on me, and probably not you either.

The room is much older than it appears in the photos. There is currently an active construction site near the hotel, causing constant noise from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Expect frequent loud construction noise throughout the day. The room is poorly maintained and the vent in the bathroom is completely non-functional.

For what you’re paying, this stay just isn’t worth it. The lobby is gorgeous, but the rooms are definitely in need of an upgrade. The amenities also felt very bare minimum especially in 2026, not having access to streaming services on the TV is honestly absurd. I really had high hopes for this hotel, but unfortunately I wouldn’t book here again.

The only downside for me was that the rooms felt a bit outdated compared to the rest of the hotel. Our stay at the Watergate was excellent! My wife and I are celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary this year and our original plans fell through. Thanks to Virgin Voyages changing our itinerary to Freezing cold St John's Canada instead of Bermuda. So, we opted to cancel and visit one of our favorite cities, Washington DC. The hotel is situated right outside beautiful Georgetown. I opted to get us an upgraded suite and we were not disappointed. We had a beautiful view of the River and got the see the planes go by consistently. When our doors were closed you wouldn't even know they were flying by over the Kennedy Center right next door. For a last minute change of plans this hotel really came through. There was enough vintage mixed with modern and the staff was extremely attentive. It was a very old school feel for customer service. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. We like to visit DC at least once every presidential term and we now know exactly where we are staying EVERY time.

There is too much that went wrong to list. We arrived to dirty sheets, a non working fridge and thermostat. By the time we left, the sheets were NEVER changed. They came to fix the thermostat and were unsuccessful until we had to ask TWO more times. We were told there was free breakfast upon arrival, and then that was not true. A true disaster. I have emailed pictures to management with no response. I will be escalating.

The history of the hotel is highlighted with a free tour that will bring you back to the 1970's. It is in walking distance to historic George town with options for food and nightlife. It is also a short iber ride to all of the historic sights. My average Uber cost was about $12.00. The pool, sauna, and Jacuzzi were clean and very well maintained. This is very old hotel, def not a 5 star hotel. Staffs are very kind and responsive to any need you might have. They should however remove the carpets from their rooms, they stink. Air was not circulating in the room after shower so the room or the carpets have moldy smell. Location is convenient, area is safe. Bathroom was really small. Shower had partial glass coverage, so after shower, water is spilling everywhere.

The hotel entrance was a little hard to find, at first. Which really surprised me. Our taxi dropped us off in the wrong place and we walked on the street side up and down trying to find the hotel entrance. It would have helped to be told to enter at the awning and continue all the way to the back. Lovely entrance, once you find it. The only negative was trying to call the hotel when we were out of the hotel and kept getting an automated system. It was hard to reach a human to ask for our room to get serviced.

My husband and I came here for our anniversary. The hotel was very pretty and clean. We were disappointed in the service for it being a boutique hotel. The whisky bar was unexpectedly closed when it should have been open. We ordered room service for breakfast the night before and it arrived over an hour late, after I called twice in the morning to inquire. At one point my husband was ill and needed an ice pack and they did not have one. We asked for extra linens and were sent one rough pink blanket that looked like it came from a hospital. We did visit the pool and spa which was very nice, and our breakfast was delicious (once it arrived!) The room was nicely appointed and the bathroom and shower in particular was very nice and clean. Overall it was a nice stay, but for the price and for the hype it was a disappointment.

You can only park valet...and that is only if you can find them. It took 20 minutes to him, in the side room, and then wake him-up enough that he could drive. Staff in in the lounge are not very attentive for an almost empty space. You are only paying for the history or nostalgia of the place which may have been great 50 years ago. I stayed here with my adult son, so we booked two rooms. The hotel is dated, but charming. The staff is kind and helpful. The beds are super comfortable, which is a plus after walking all day touring the sites. The rooms are dated and a little dingy, but comfortable. Our rooms had balconies which was nice. There are virtually no food options on site other than a restaurant which was rarely open and served four things on the menu. Charging $37 per day resort fee for two rooms is literally ridiculous. $300 in respite fees when we did nothing made me mad after spending $3500 already on our rooms. The outside pool is not open this time of year. We tried to go to the indoor pool, but there was a couple having sex in the hot tub, so I left. There is no gift shop or anywhere to buy snacks and stuff on property. Overall I would not recommend it for the money you have to spend to stay here. There are way better options.

I had requested a higher floor as when I woke up the next day ( I got to the hotel late at night) the first thing I saw was a dirty gray wall with bird poop all over it when I pulled the blinds, which took away from really seeing the view of the river. It was disappointed that no effort seemed to be made to accommodate this. I also asked about late checkout and was told it was not possible, which made the departure feel rushed. Another issue was the minibar being completely full with items for purchase, leaving no space for personal food or drinks, which was a bit inconvenient. On a positive note, the massage and facial at the spa was excellent and the therapists did a wonderful job. However, overall the service experience and general atmosphere did not meet my expectations. On the website says it’s “ unapologetically luxurious” and I just did not get that experience at all.

The room we were given appeared to be unused in months. It looked like a room they would give people on a whim. The shower floor was growing mold/fungus. After some back and fourth with the staff, they offered to change our room. This was at 10:30a.m. We packed all our things. And waited until 4p.m. And was only given a new room when we went to the front because no one was updating us.

We had a great time at the hotel. the room was a good size, the hotel was quiet and the pool was a lot of fun. Easy to get around, about 15 minutes walk to Georgetown for shopping and restaurants. We has our daughter with us so we got taxis to the museums but I would guess it would have been about a 1 hour walk. Great place!

I loved staying at the Watergate. Every staff member was immediately friendly, welcoming, and asked if there was anything they could help with or do for us. We got so many helpful suggestions from the staff to help make our trip easier while moving around DC for a few days. The hotel is clean and beautiful. The restaurant is very pretty, the food is amazing, and the staff remembers your name, even if you are only there for a few days. This is the best hotel I have stayed in around the DC area, probably the best anywhere and I'll be a return customer in the future.

For this part of my visit, I most certainly want to thank Hugo, for making me feel safe to be myself. Which is a true talent! For honestly helping, and being sincere. I want to think Daya, for always treating me with kindness, and patience. I wanna think the guys at the door, particularly DJ. And I really hope I got that name, right. If not, I’ll just write another one. just to be sure I get it right I want to thank Jessica for all for all of her assistance and participation, and assurance I do not wish to ‘mostly’ thank anyone, but I need to sincerely thank Judit. Her professionalism is special as she’s lived in a hotel. She has been incredibly helpful in helping me figure out how to live in a hotel room. I cannot thank her enough, and I will thank her again.

Every part of the hotel and every member of their hospitality team ( they’re not just “staff” here ) is noticeably held to very high standards. Great amenities in the room, visit the pool which has a whirlpool & coed sauna and men’s and women’s steam rooms in the locker rooms. The Four Seasons without the pretentiousness and at a great rate. Pool Area was very messy .. there was towels everywhere even at 9am on a Sunday morning .. It would be best to have pool staff that could come and collect the towels maybe after an hour ?!?! Valet Sucked ! We got downstairs at 10:15 and didn’t pull off the lot until 10:50 !! . Valet “lost the car” and asked us do we remember where it was parked .. After my boyfriend explained they advised to give them 5-10 mins … 20 mins went by and they drove around with a car that looked the same but it wasn’t ours ! after a 3rd conversation was had with another individual they advised that they mixed up the tag assigned to the truck with another guest car .. My boyfriend had to walk over there and point out his keys .. Which lets us know they had never looked for the car in the first place.. If I do decide to stay again .. I will be looking for alternative parking

Next day I called front desk for the extra coffee mug and it was delivered. However, after housekeeping cleaned the room, we were back to one mug. Restaurant prices were extremely expensive.

I rated this stay four stars for two reasons. The onsite restaurant offers a very limited menu at prices that feel disproportionate to the quality. While that alone would not have impacted my rating, my interaction with the afternoon receptionist on 1/13/26 ultimately did. After a full day of travel, the receptionist was noticeably curt upon our arrival. His demeanor shifted once we changed from travel clothes into business attire. While this did not personally affect my stay, it raised concerns about how guests who may not present a certain way (or who have fewer resources) might be treated. A property of this caliber should offer consistent professionalism and respect to all guests. You never know who you are serving, and it was clear he recognized his mistake within a few hours and his attitude shifted. Overall, an elegant hotel with excellent amenities, views, and location with lots of potential. With more consistent front-desk service, it would easily meet a five-star standard and be comparable to my experiences in five-star hotels nationwide. Side note: Tazza Cafe is one block over, and is a lovely place for breakfast or lunch.

For the property to be considered luxury, a lot of work will need to be done. Upon checking in I noted, the bed linens to be dingy-did not look fresh at all, the carpet was also with smudge, water stains on most surfaces-giving it an unclean appearance. There was a strong sewerage smell through the room and it was very pungent in the bathroom. Overall the room was not at all luxury so lower your expectations while booking. The lobby was not decorated with any Christmas lights or ornaments like most hotel lobbies especially ones that are supposed to be luxe. I went to the restaurant before checking out and there was only one table sitting…the staff uniforms were with stains and because of the lack of ambience and consistent lack of detail throughout my stay, I decided to go to Four Seasons for brunch instead. Rooms need to be refreshed. Get into the details if you want to be a luxury hotel.

Hotel has potential to be so much more and needs work to meet the quality requirement of a five star hotel. However the location is amazing, very close to DC and George town within walking distance. it is an ok hotel and needs to work on the little things that matter to customers. The room was average and not five star but for comfort it was great however when staying in such hotels you expect more in the room then was provided and expect quality products in the room, example being the coffee station which was very average.

When we checked we attempted to use 2 $500.00 American Express gift cards to secure the room the Watergate Hotel guest clerk told us we could do that but we could use that method of payment to check out. So we used a bank debit card to secure the room. Today when we checked out and we presented the two Amex gift cards to pay for the stay, we were told that the watergate wouldn't accept that method of payment from us. Even though the housekeeping staff, the bellhop staff, and door men staff were simply excellent and the amenities were good this refusal to accept our valid Amex gift cards for the final checkout payment simply operated to intentionally cast a pall over our celebratory weekend.

So the check in was smooth and quick, my room at first glance was great until I found freeze dried bananas on the floor which indicated the room wasn’t cleaned properly. I utilized the spa which was pretty nice, was a bit confused as to why there was no water in the lockers or spa area but that’s okay — later I asked for some toiletries and the guy kept getting it wrong. I asked for body wash, shampoo and conditioner and was brought 2x conditioners. When I asked him for the other things (toothbrush kit too) he said he spoke no English - great. Then I asked for hot water in Spanish for tea but apparently he thought that meant my water was broken so they send a repair guy. After 2 phone calls and 4 knocks on my door (far from ideal) I finally got all the requested items. When the guy came back with the shampoo and body wash he forgot the toothbrush kit and then he still forgot the water kettle. Not great. I then went out for a few hours and when I came back I saw someone had messed with my door. There’s a WiFi signal where the key goes and someone had literally cut out a perfect circle where that was. Perhaps to break in? I’ve called and reported it once I returned at 1 am and then followed up the next day and they acted like they knew nothing about it and that they’d call me back - they didn’t. Not really safe for a solo female travelled.

Some part of me just genuinely felt slighted & lied to. It was within a matter of 3 minutes from the time I was assisted to my room to the time that I called back down to the lobby. If a water view room with a balcony was not available when I checked in, then they should have said that from the beginning and given me an honest opportunity to decide if I wanted to spend $100 on an upgrade. &While the room had a nice view, the vent noise from the heat was so extremely loud that I could not fall asleep. Finally, at 2 am I had enough, called reception again and had to have the maintenance engineer come to my room just so he closed the vents to cut down on the noise. So ... I slept in a cold room... not so luxurious to me. All day dining for room service ends at 1030 pm btw... Watergate ...misleading

Only first day I noticed after showering that the water started leaking out of the shower causing a pool a of water. I notified the front desk immediately who then contacted maintenance to fix the shower leak. 24 hours later my shower was not fixed. I had to contact the front again to ask what is going on. They sent maintenance up to my room again to look at the leak. He came to look and didn’t return for an hour. I contacted the front again to ask what is going on which is when they offered to move me. I had to repack my things and move to another room which had a smell of mildew. I bought my own air freshener and left the patio door open because I was so tired of moving around. I was not compensated for the inconvenience at all. It was almost as if they just said ok well things happen which I totally understand but at the same time it’s about giving people outstanding customer service when running a business.

U have to be let out on the street and walk up to the hotel with no signage and its dark! I prepaid for a room with a tub. The room they gave me was super small and no tub or view. They apologized and said for 20 dollars more a day I can upgrade which was ridiculous. I went to the new room which did have a tub and partial view. She also gave me a late check out for the inconvenience. On to the next day... I went to the bar and had a mimosa and it was 20 dollars... The indoor pool option & jacquzzi was amazing! However they literally only had 4 lounge chairs. I thought about a massage.. starting price was 280 for 30 minutes! I wanted to go to the rooftop for pics and but was closed. Came down for dinner around 9:40 and the restaurant was closed! It closed at 9. I complained b/c they told me it would be open until 10. The manager had the chef make me a burger and fries for 50 dollars. Final morning wanted room service for breakfast... 75 dollars for 2 eggs, potatoes and toast! Finally, the hotel is dead. No activity, no food and far from everything. Be prepared to pay ridiculous prices for food, drinks and anything else! Customer service was great but won't stay here again!!

Amenities in the room were very nice quality, slippers, loofah, and toiletries. I was overcharged for car parking on check out when they asked if I had any extras. Hotel refunded it right away but my overseas bank took an extra procedure fee as a result of this misunderstanding. Room was a suite but the hallway between had no light. View was excellent.

We arrived and they told us the room we reserved was not available. The alternative was not ready by check-in either. They couldn’t explain why they gave our room to someone else. They said they would move us the following night, but we didn’t want to move again once we unpacked, so we stayed, until we came back to find maintenance guys in our room, because the a/c was leaking from our room into the carpet/floor and they had to put a high powered loud fan on the floor and fix a/c, but couldn’t do it right away, so we had to move to another room. They said we would get a two bedroom suite river view for our inconvenience by the time we came back from dinner. When we got back, they gave us a new key, we got in the room and it was not what they said, but the same type of room we didn’t order and not river view. We had to go over to our other room and move our stuff over. They had offered $40/day as apology, but didn’t tell us it was $40 each person until we checked out. So we didn’t end up using the $. The cleaning people did a nice job everyday. But there were things in one room and not the other. Like no face cloths in the second room the first night. No sugar with the coffee machine. No body wash. So mixed service and mixed amenities. The hotel is a tiny bit tired as well.

The staff was very nice and attentive to issues, but overall the property was a bit run down, smaller for what you pay for, dog barking constantly next door, TV didn't work, and Rollaway wasn't in room as requested. The price is truly for location and history, but truly don't think worth the price when extras that would normally be included in the price of the hotel, you had to pay extra.

The decor in the rooms featured old rugs that emitted a terrible odor, completely at odds with the luxurious atmosphere expected from a supposedly premium establishment. The exorbitant price I paid for my stay was simply not justified by the lackluster standards observed throughout the property. As a gesture of goodwill, I was upgraded to a different room to only return from a long day and only to encounter further issues, like not have a room as promised and staff losing our luggage. The television set was non-functional, the room reeked of smoke, and the presence of mold in the bathroom grout was deeply concerning. These shortcomings highlighted a clear lack of attention to detail and maintenance on the part of your staff, contributing to a disappointing overall experience.

After taking the initial deposit as per their expected terms, they took a further justified charge accounting for the resort fees and the breakfast I ordered via room service totalling to slightly more than $150 (that breakfast included an exorbitant 22% service charge I should add... pretty sure D.C. Council ruled last year that service charges were capped at 20%). However, a few hours later (a cynic would say, somehow coincidentally after I collected my luggage) they made an additional charge to my card over $120. This was for a "Liquor" fee. I drank none of the alcohol at the minibar and ordered no alcohol to the room. My only possible explanation is that I left a wine of my own. As I only had a glass, I left the almost full bottle in the fridge in case housekeeping or what not wanted it. Ironic. This is simply a "possible explanation" as I am yet to gain clarification from the hotel, over 72 hours later. It is now Monday evening, I checked out Friday morning, and contacted them numerous times on Friday and Saturday after the charge. No contact with info apart from updated bill. What is even more worrying, is a further charge of almost $200 was attempted but luckily my bank blocked this one due to fraud concerns. This charge was NOT reflected in updated bill, so I am truly lost there. A Watergate scandal...

The room was decent. The under sheets were definitely stained, the carpet was soaked right at the entry way and the tub was broken. The tub was ultimately fixed. Parking over night is quite expensive and the "resort fee"in my opinion is over rated considering I never used anything in the hotel but the room yet was charged for a resort fee. Other that that the view was amazing and the hotel, though aging, is still nice

Once we arrived at the hotel after 6 o’clock, we had to wait over 45 minutes/1 hour for our room to be ready, which I felt was unacceptable because they made the excuse that it wasn’t clean yet. Then once we got to our room, we noticed the door was open, the lock on the door was not working properly so we weren’t able to Leave the room until maintenance. Came up to figure it out. So this went on for two days, maintenance did finally get it fixed where we were able to to come and go with ease. With the overall experience, I had also called for an upgraded suite prior to my stay and that was not available, so I ended up getting a regular room, which is fine in the grand scheme of things, but it’s not what I requested. Another big frustration was valet, they have a QR code that allows you to scan and get your car but each time we try to do that. It wasn’t working properly so we had to wait an extra 10/15 minutes for that car to be brought up. I did speak to the front desk associate, last night and early this morning once we checked out, he adjusted the resort fee, from our bill, which we do appreciate it for all the inconvenience, it doesn’t leave me, wanting to come back to the Watergate hotel. Thank you for allowing me to vent my frustrations with this hotel and visit sincerely, Lee Raygoza.

How tall is amazing. The staff was very friendly and was reliable. They would text me to check me if I needed anything on a regular basis and I love that. The room was beautiful and they continue to keep it clean the entire time. Breakfast room service was great. I wish that we could self park instead of valet parking to save money. But the staff for valet was great and quickly got our car every single time.
